This is the first installment of the series. It earned a good amount of money after it was released worldwide. It is the first game in the Mario Kart: Hot Pursuit series. It earned mixed reviews, with some critics liking having a different take, but most weren't happy with the idea of real world cars and street races, because they thought it went against the original concept of Mario Kart.
This game was announced at F3 2012. It is reported to have more cars and more characters. Now, instead of one car being specific to a certain character, you can choose lots of combinations of cars and characters. It was released on October 20, 2012, and sold 4 million copies, 2 million more than its predecessor.
This game was announced at the Fantendo Holiday Showcase 2012. The concept remained the same, but there will be no cops in this one. There will be more cars, and more characters to play as.
A 4th Mario Kart: Hot Pursuit game is currently being considered. It may happen, but it may not.
On April 16, 2013, it was officially confirmed Mario Kart Hot Pursuit Unleashed is officially happening. The game will be announced at Fantendo World '13. It is expected to come out on October 30, 2013.
