Mario Galaxy Riders will be a Mario game for the Wii and Wii U. It will be a sequel to Super Mario Galaxy. It will have many elements from different Mario games. It will be created by Mizunokaze Entertainment.
Space…The Final Frontier, err…A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away…Aww, screw these sci-fi intros!
Deep in the farthest reaches of the cosmos, King Boo and Petey Piranha meet up with Mario’s most feared enemies as follows; Tatanga, Princess Shroob, Cackletta, Bouldergeist, Whomp King, Count Bleck, Kamek, Baron Brr, Major Burrows and Topmaniac. They have gathered the materials necessary to create a new weapon that King Boo and Petey Piranha collaborated on designing. It is a destructive missile series called Delta Omega, with enough firepower to destroy an entire galaxy and all its inhabitants. They are going to test a smaller-scale form of it on an outpost of the Koopa Clan around Dark Land, leading Bowser to contact the Mushroom Kingdom for help in defending Dark Land and the Mushroom Galaxy as well. This is something new.
The distress call comes to the Comet Observatory of Rosalina and the Lumas, where it is transmitted back to the Mushroom Kingdom Castle. Mario and Luigi receive the transmission while Princesses Peach and Daisy are enjoying a swim in the moat of Peach’s Castle. They are trying to figure out what to do when King Boo and Petey Piranha send their attack fleets to attract the attention of our heroes. Now the entire Mushroom Kingdom, the Comet Observatory and the Koopa Clan will have to team up in order to defeat this dangerous threat to the peace of the universe in a new game.
Characters and Units
Mario - Mario is a plumber, but in most games, he uses his legendary jump and combat abilities to defend the inhabitants of the usually peaceful Mushroom World from power-hungry villains such as Bowser. During most of his adventures, he often teams up with his younger brother Luigi and their partner Yoshi and sometimes even Toads for extra support, as they are the only two characters he fully trusts to help him. Now, as King Boo and Petey Piranha threaten the universe, Mario will need all the help he can get. Using the Red Comet One starfighter, he is the well-rounded character for players.
Luigi - Mario's younger, and taller, twin brother. Luigi has assisted and fought alongside his brother on many occasions. Throughout his life, he has lived in Mario's shadow, developing both cowardly and heroic tendencies. Piloting the Green Sun Two starfighter, Luigi sometimes serves as the field leader for ground missions. In the fight against the evil, Luigi has greater strength and a quick wit that gets the others out of tight jams.
Princess Peach – Princess Peach is classy, kind, clever, and adventurous. She often displays an unselfish and noble spirit and puts her friends ahead of herself. She has been said to have a gentle demeanor but can be tough when it calls for it. Her ship of choice is the classy Pink Asteroid Three starfighter. She is the perfect wingmate for any player, as she is one of the well-rounded characters like Mario, Luigi and Yoshi.
Princess Daisy – When it comes down to it, Daisy can be defined best as a tomboy. It has been said that Daisy is always full of energy, and it's evident due to her cheerful nature. She also has a huge competitive drive, though it's apparent she knows it's all in good fun. As captain of the Yellow Meteor Four starfighter, she is all strength and attack, being that she carries the heavy artillery for our heroes into the battles against evil.
Toad – One of Princess Peach’s most trusted aides, Toad is one of the heroes of the Mushroom Kingdom. Piloting the Blue Nebula Five starfighter, he plays a very powerful role against the enemy. While having a slightly smaller capacity of taking on capital ships and larger targets, his weapons or powers are suited well for giving cover for our heroes and even picking off starfighters by the dozens, at least three ships a second.
Yoshi – One of the heroes of the Mushroom Kingdom and allies of Mario and Luigi comes as a small, green Yoshi dinosaur. His ship is the Jade Pulsar Six starfighter, which can emit black hole matter in his laser blasts to create small-enough black holes to drive enemy forces out of the way by literally swallowing them up. Yoshi is a much more powerful player who can deliver a ton of punch to enemy objectives and targets.
Toadette – She is only seen in the first and last two missions involving the main heroes around the Mushroom Planet and is non-playable, but she is a great pilot. Even though she pilots only a regular Mushroom Starfighter, she is the perfect wingmate for Peach, Daisy, Toad, Yoshi or Rosalina. With her world and all the creatures on it threatened, she takes a fighting stance going as far as it takes to defend everything she cares about.
Toadsworth – An unlockable character, Toadsworth is Princess Peach’s royal steward, and has looked after her ever since she was an infant. A fussbudget and using his old British English accent, Toadsworth is actually a very kind and respectful sort. If he is unlocked, he can fly Peach’s miniship and use it to pick off the enemy fighters/turrets.
Bowser – Usually the main villain in the Mario series, his kingdom has since fallen under attack by the forces of King Boo and Petey Piranha. One thing that he and Mario have in common is that they have an intense dislike for King Boo. Being forced to put aside his differences with Mario, he and Mario may be able to stop the evil, with Mario repaying the favor that Bowser does in the end. His newest ship is the super-powerful Emerald Supernova Seven starfighter, and it’s a vital component for forming Star Robo.
Bowser Jr. – Even though he is the little brother of the Koopalings and a bit too much like his father, this kid has some real spunk for a young Koopa. As pilot of the Purple Void Eight starfighter, he is a mix of spiritual and firepower, using specially granted Luma Powers and secondary weapons to clear paths for the others, or even make way for his finishing strike against enemy targets and objectives in the field of battle.
Koopalings – Larry, Morton Junior, Wendy O, Iggy, Roy, Lemmy and Ludwig von are the oldest of the Koopa Kids, but they look up to their dad and little brother as leaders in battle. Piloting the Koopstar Cruiser, the starfighters of the Koopa Clan have a special new carrier/battleship to land and take off from, as well as be protected from hostile invaders and attackers. This can be used as an extra hub for deep-space missions.
Rosalina – Rosalina is generally wise, kind, thoughtful and mother-like. She has an intimate knowledge of the universe and cares deeply for the Lumas. Her flagship is mainly in the hub of the Comet Observatory, but sometimes joins the battle in the Teal Star Nine starfighter. Her ship is the last one needed to form the powerful Star Robo.
Polari – Even though he is not a playable character, this little Luma is a perfect wingmate for any of our heroes, especially Rosalina. He christened his fighter the Black Nova Ten after the black hole that some of his kind flew into in order to stop the destruction of the Universe as we know it in Super Mario Galaxy. He can also be tagged with Rosalina as a turret gunner for the Teal Star Nine for the very tough missions.
Lubba – Another non-playable character, Lubba is commander of the unlockable Starship Mario, which can serve as an extra hub if there is ever the need. Cheerful, a great sense of humor, and brave are words that can describe this oversized Luma. He often takes very big risks that pay off in the end to help our heroes. When he and Mario are together, he always relinquishes command of the ship to the plumber himself.
Birdo – Too bad that Yoshi’s best wingmate/ground partner and love interest is a non-playable character. But that doesn’t stop her from doing her part in land and space battles. She is the one of those who helps in the evacuation of Toad Town when King Boo and Petey Piranha launch their attack. She pilots a regular Mushroom Starfighter.
Toads – First appearing as cameo characters in the original Super Mario Bros, they are the dominant species of the Mushroom Kingdom. Toads reside in many towns and cities throughout the entire kingdom, including the outlier Rogueport, but they are most prominent in the capital of Toad Town. They serve as the defensive/strategic type.
Yoshis - An intelligent species of dinosaur that first appeared in Super Mario World. They later starred in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Story, Yoshi Touch & Go, and Yoshi's Island DS. Yoshi are mainly found on Yoshi's Island in Dinosaur Land, but have been known to inhabit other areas, most notably the Yoshi's Village of Lavalava Island, and even the Mushroom Kingdom. They are multipurpose units.
Piantas - A sentient species of people found on Isle Delfino in Super Mario Sunshine. They somewhat resemble humans; however, Piantas are much larger and can have pink, green, brown, purple, red, orange, yellow, or blue skin. Piantas also have small palm trees growing out of the top of their heads, indicating that they may have come from tropical plants. Typically, Piantas wear grass skirts or grass dresses. Piantas are generally laid back, quite strong, and friendly. However, they also have a big temper, giving them the offensive edge when in the heat of battle against forces of evil.
Nokis - A race of short creatures with shells, first seen in Super Mario Sunshine. They, along with Piantas, inhabit Isle Delfino. They thrive primarily in Noki Bay, but can be found in other places on the island as well. Many of the Nokis living in Noki Bay rarely rise to the surface of the bay, but rather reside in a large underwater area located directly beneath the bay's large waterfall. They are some of the most relaxed and intelligent characters in the Mario series. Great for flying in aerial surprise strikes.
Lumas - Star-like creatures that first appear in Super Mario Galaxy. Unlike most Stars, they have a tear drop-like shape, and come in many colors. They are much like Power Stars, but they are more circular and are able to talk. Lumas boast the ability to transform, from minor planetoids to entire galaxies. They seem to acknowledge Rosalina as their "mama". According to Rosalina, some can transform into Power Stars. Most of them make home in the Comet Observatory, while others live on Starship Mario.
Penguins - A species of flightless bird found in the Mario series. They are good swimmers and often inhabit cold climates, like their real-world counterparts, to which they bear varying degrees of resemblance, depending on the game. Most of them do not hurt Mario, though they sometimes act as obstacles or hindrances to his quest.
Gearmos - A species of robot allies that appear in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. They are usually seen inhabiting industrialized galaxies where they usually aid in their maintenance and upkeep.

Locations and Galaxies
In different missions around Dark Land, Toad Town and the Comet Observatory, we are given the full lowdown on flying starfighters and land battles from flying as Mario, Peach, or Bowser with tips and instructions from Luigi, Rosalina or Ludwig von Koopa. They tell of how to fly your starfighter and do ground battles on foot as if you were playing Super Mario Galaxy and Battlefront, use your secondary weapons and or Luma Powers, give battle commands, and collect items needed to form the legendary Star Robo.
Prologue and Briefing
King Boo and Petey Piranha meet with their coalition and unveil the Delta Omega weapon. They decide to use a nano-scale version on Dark Land of the Mushroom Planet. They commit the test, leaving Bowser to send out distress calls to the actual Mushroom Kingdom, overheard by Rosalina and the Lumas at the Comet Observatory. Risking being attacked by enemy fleets, Polari transmits the distress call to the target Mushroom Kingdom, where Mario and Luigi are monitoring space from Princess Peach’s Castle.
The call comes into the receiver in the castle’s Control Room while Princesses Peach and Daisy are enjoying a night swim in the moat of the castle. Mario calls for the girls to dry off, get dressed and come to the Control Room where Toad and Yoshi are waiting. Deciding to give aid to the Koopa Kingdom to combat King Boo and Petey Piranha, our heroes are beginning to worry when Princess Shroob and Cackletta send their attack fleets minus themselves to keep the Mushroom KIngdom from interfering.
The Kingdom is now on high alert, as Mario and company take to the skies in their starfighters to defend the immediate area from attack. The battle seems to drag on forever, with seemingly no end in sight until the Comet Observatory and the unlockable Starship Mario fly into battle mid-way, sending the attack fleet running back to face the wrath of their superiors. Heading to an uncharted area near the dark side of the planet, Rosalina and Lubba dispatch the Comet Observatory and the unlockable Starship Mario to be led by Mario and Peach to meet with Bowser Jr. in the Topaz Nebula.
In the meantime, the Comet Observatory, the unlockable Starship Mario and the unlockable Koopstar Cruiser sometimes lose their Long-Range Scanning abilities due to King Boo and Petey Piranha stealing Power Stars from all the galaxies in the Universe to power the Delta Omegas. Our heroes must individually fly their ships one at a time, through the galaxies to recapture the Power Stars and restore vision to the hubs, at least one dome before the next act of missions can be unlocked and then our heroes can complete the next mission, and they constantly face attacks from Transports of all their enemies’ armies that try to keep them off their feet, but when the way to the Topaz Nebula is clear, Mario and Peach set off to meet up with their informant and contact.
Mario and Peach meet up with Bowser Jr. in the Topaz Nova, where they encounter a strike carrier of Magikoopas. After they destroy it, Bowser Jr. leads them to Dark Land, where Ludwig von Koopa and Bowser are stuck on the ground because Monty Mole ships are hounding the castle, waiting to take it over. Surprised that Mario would help them escape, Bowser, Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings decide to lend a hand to the efforts to stop King Boo and Petey Piranha because King Boo is an enemy of both Mario and Bowser as of now, having turned traitor and threatening the Koopas. The most unlikely team-up is made somewhat easier as Bowser Jr. and Peach take full responsibility for the entire alliance from the start of the war all the way to the very end.
After rendezvousing with the Comet Observatory, they set off for the Prison Space Station A-113 in the Space Junk Galaxy to free the rest of Bowser’s army. With the codes gathered from Bowser’s Castle, Wendy O. Koopa and Goomboss lead the army out of the brig and into the hangar. As soon as word of escape leaves the system, fighters and bombers bear down on them all. While defending the Koopstar Cruiser from starfighter and anti-capital ship attacks, Ludwing von Koopa and Bowser Jr. free their siblings and the army from the station with the help of Peach. As the Comet Observatory and the unlockable Starship Mario buy time to escape, Toad and Yoshi lead them to the Beach Bowl Galaxy.
With Roy Koopa and Master Goomba leading a ground assault on a sensor base for King Boo and Petey Piranha; Bowser, Luigi and Peach take down starfighters and turrets blocking their way. What come out of the destroyed base are Princess Shroob and Tatanga! Mario and Daisy press the attack for revenge against what Tatanga and Shroob did to Peach and Daisy over several years ago. Even though they are defeated, the two villains are able to escape, and there are still some targets that need to be investigated before they can proceed any further. Bowser, Luigi and Toad take on route towards a mountainous island while Mario, Peach and the others take another.
Tatanga, Major Burrows, Whomp King and Princess Shroob meet on Shroob’s cruiser. This is where King Boo gives them a sample of the Delta Omega formula in a vial. But since Tatanga isn’t too careful, it drops and cracks on the floor of the deck. Luckily it is a small scale form, but still dangerous, as it cripples Tatanga and Princess Shroob for a few battles. King Boo orders his private Koopa Troopas and Boos to clean up the mess that Tatanga and Princess Shroob had nearly made of themselves. Major Burrows and Whomp King are to test the Delta Omegas on the Isle Delfino colony planet of Delfino VII in Beach Bowl. A most heinous and uncalled for move by them all.
Mario, Peach and the others stumble on the attack being made by the Delta Omegas on Delfino VII. They see a missile level one of the cities in one blast, but the citizens of the city, that include Piantas, Nokis, Yoshis and Birdos were hunkered down in underground shelters, safe from the blast. As Mario, the Comet Observatory, the Koopstar Cruiser and the unlockable Starship Mario fend off Goomba and Spiny Bombers, Peach, Daisy and Yoshi take down three Tatanga Carriers that were launching Cheep-Cheeps, Bloopers and even the missiles at the cities and destroy any missiles that were launched. They relay word to Bowser and Luigi who had a run in with some Bullet Bills and Mega Bob-Ombs blocking their flight path.
They meanwhile are heading straight for Mount Makawuhu Island, a volcanic area packed with an incompatible mix of snow, ice and lava. What’s worse is that the whole island is armed to the keel with major mining operations. The drilling rigs and bases on the sides of the mountain are connected to a collection plant that mines explosive ore to feed into the Delta Omega matrix. The fighters take off to destroy the mining buildings, and any transports leaving the landing pads. Their mission is made more maddening by giga-size Dino Piranhas that use their tails and fire breath to take the fighters down. Bowser and Luigi are able to successfully blow the entire island up.
After picking up King Boo and Petey Piranha’s signals heading for a large congregation of Magikoopa and Topman ships, the team prepares to move out. The Koopstar Cruiser with a fleet of airships, followed by the Comet Observatory and unlockable Starship Mario engage the enemy horde of ships in the Freezeflame Galaxy, where the Delta Omega factory plant is located. Our band of heroes form Star Robo for the first time and cut down the fleet of ships, as well as Kamek and Topmaniac in short order. When Star Robo finally separates, King Boo, Petey Piranha and Lord Grodus of the X-Nauts arrive, claiming bounties on Bowser Jr. The old X-Naut leader is ready to collect on a bounty on the Koopalings’ general and brother, but not today, Junior says to that.
Junior flees from the team to escape being caught by Lord Grodus, as the battle over Freezeflame is heating up. In order to provide more time to prevent the Koopa and Dry Bone ships from striking, Master Goomba throws his airship on a collision course towards the Planetary Defense Shield Satellite, destroying the shield protecting the planet, leaving it open for attack. As Mario and Bowser lead a task force to destroy the shield bunkers that protect the plant itself, Peach, Daisy, Rosalina and the heavier ships provide cover fire and tactical direction to the ground squad blowing up the bunkers. As soon as the bunkers are destroyed the attack on the main plant itself can actually start.
A fleet of ships meets around several planets at the Center of the Universe. It seems that King Boo and Petey Piranha have been shipping Toads, Yoshis, Birdos, Lumas, Piantas, Nokis and other species from the Mushroom Galaxy and every galaxy beyond it to finish production on the Delta Omega weapons as well as the Delta Omega Alliance military armies and fleets to spread them across the Universe. It seems that King Boo and Petey Piranha are out to create a vast galactic empire, with them as supreme rulers, and partners serving as their enforcers and governors of various regions of space. The transmissions are overheard by Toadette and Birdo, who were hiding on an asteroid, waiting for contact from Peach, Daisy and Rosalina in emergency.
Once all the bunkers are destroyed, Daisy takes up the secondary gunner post in Bowser’s fighter to provide cover fire. Mario, Peach, Toad, Yoshi and Rosalina will help him escort the Koopstar Cruiser and Luigi down to the landing pad on top of the factory, while trying to prevent Magikoopa Transports from storming and retaking the plant, all at the same time that the Koopalings and Luigi are in there. In order to take down an energy beam/shield that protects the internal reactor, the others have to take out the main solar tower arrays. As soon as the reactor’s exposed, Bowser bombs it, hopefully ending King Boo and Petey Piranha’s business dealings in the Freezeflame Galaxy.
Our heroes return to the Comet Observatory, the unlockable Starship Mario and the Koopstar Cruiser, where there is a message for Peach, Daisy and Rosalina from Toadette and Birdo. The bad guys are moving their bases of operations to several planets at the Center of the Universe. In fear of what the bad guys will do next, the Comet Observatory has to split off from the main force with the Koopstar Cruiser and an unlockable Starship Mario. Bowser, Mario and their team continue with getting parts for a Planetary Defense Cannon from a pack of Boulder and Count Bleck cruisers working for King Boo and Petey Piranha. Soon the parts for the Cannon are ready to be taken back to Dark Land on the Mushroom World.
The Comet Observatory, Peach, Daisy and Rosalina arrive at the Center of the Universe in an asteroid field surrounding the galaxy. It is there that they are hailed by Toadette and Birdo who were hiding in the asteroid field with several large assault transports. Toadette gives Peach the whole lowdown: in order to combat the war that might occur from the clash between the Delta Omega Empire of King Boo/Petey Piranha and the Mushroom Galaxy Alliance, a secret clone breeding program for creating clone soldiers to fight battles on multiple fronts was started without Princess Peach’s permission. Even if there was a big cover-up that was not supposed to be allowed, our heroes need the clone military to counter the threats to intergalactic peace forever.
Before they can move in towards the enemy planets, they have to face off versus a fleet of Monty Mole ships and Whomp Destroyers that are prowling the asteroid field for our heroes. They take them down too easy, and it is as if they have been driving the fleet of transports and the Comet Observatory forward! Suspicions are proved correct when they come across the fleet of enemy boss ships lined up to fire. Daisy figures that they have to destroy the main gun systems on all the enemy cruisers that way they can pass down to the planet surfaces without any damage. The fighters pick the turrets off of the enemy cruisers one by one to provide clear openings to the planet surfaces below.
The Koopstar Cruiser and the unlockable Starship Mario have taken the Cannon to the old X-Naut base on the Moon, where they will set it up to have a clear view of Dark Land. The old X-Naut Fleet still holds a great presence on the Moon, so our heroes (Bowser, Mario, Luigi, Toad, Yoshi and the Koopalings) have to clear them from the surface and protect the cannon from some Shroob and Tatanga attack craft that were preparing to set up a base on the Moon at the same time as our heroes. The Planetary Defense Cannon is finally set up, and is able to focus fire on large concentrations of smaller and medium size craft and blow them out of the sky. The way is clear to the planet surface to strike.
In the meantime, the planets at the Center of the Universe are under siege by our heroes, as Peach leads a clone army of Yoshis to take down a Delta Omega Alliance base’s power plant. Swiping fuel from the core of the planet and the sun to power the enemy fleet and the ground assault vehicles that are being built, the Yoshi clones have to enter the plant unharmed and set timers to blow the base apart. At the same time, Daisy, Rosalina and the Comet Observatory have to pick off convoys of Boos, Piranha Plants, Monty Moles, Boulder Men, Topmen, Aura Beings, Shroobs and Tatanga’s species that are threatening the operations of the other clone armies on the planets.
Out on the Mushroom Planet, inside Bowser’s own castle to boot, King Boo and Petey Piranha are just finishing up loading the prized Delta Omega missiles onto their flagship cruisers. They receive word from their Imperial Generals that their bases at the Center of the Universe have fallen under attack by the Comet Observatory and the Mushroom Galaxy Alliance, and that “their castle” might be next. Petey Piranha hastens up the loading to escape capture. King Boo preps the fighters, bombers, interceptors and transports to provide a distraction to provide a clear path out of the planet’s atmosphere. They are just ready to leave when the Mushroom-Koopa Alliance heroes enter the atmosphere, ready to strike and take back Bowser’s castle now and forever.
Mario and Bowser have broken orbit, with Luigi, Toad, Yoshi and a safe and sound Bowser Jr. When Junior had to flee, he was hiding out on the far side of the Moon, and it was when our heroes arrived in the system that he rejoined our heroes to help take back the castle. While Bowser and the others keep the enemy fleet occupied, Mario leads a task force inside to raise the Grand Koopa Flag to symbolize that Bowser has retaken his castle through the help and cooperation of a foe who shares a common enemy with him. The unlockable Starship Mario and Koopstar Cruiser arrive with transports to load into the main barracks of the castle, and Dark Land is retaken. They’re home at last.
Even as they are about to get settled in, the true form of the Delta Omega missiles are being fired at the Mushroom Planet as they prepare to head out. They came all this way home to retake Dark Land and the Mushroom Planet, and that is how it needs to stay. Mario, Bowser, Luigi, Bowser Junior, Toad, Yoshi and the Koopalings have to prevent the Delta Omegas from hitting the surface of the planet, but it is very easy to do since the missiles are very big targets and they only take a few shots to destroy. The shots came from King Boo and Petey Piranha’s cruisers, and were last seen heading for the Center of the Universe. It’s time to move out again to save the day.
After defeating all the eight mini-bosses on the planets at the Center of the Universe, the Comet Observatory reports that hyperspace gates are being activated, and Delta Omegas are being fired right at the gates to impact at certain stars in certain galaxies, wiping the Universe clean for a new galactic empire. Peach, Daisy, Toadette, Birdo and Rosalina take care of the missiles, and are able to finish off all the enemy cruisers with relative ease. Then there’s real trouble, as King Boo and Petey Piranha’s destroyers enter the system, armed to the teeth with Delta Omegas, ready to fire, and able to combine into a humanoid robot: a mecha destroyer to take on our heroes. For now, King Boo and Petey Piranha remain focused on the Comet Observatory for targets.
It all looks hopeless, until the rest of the gang arrives to help. First the Delta Omega launchers on the destroyer have to be taken out before any missiles can be fired at the Central Sun, or else. Finally, the Mushroom Galaxy Alliance leaders form Star Robo one last time to take on the enemy mecha. In classic Super Sentai/Power Rangers style, the two giant robots duke it out while in a hyperspace gate that leads right back to the Mushroom Galaxy. With Toadette, Birdo, Koopstar Cruiser, the unlockable Starship Mario, the Comet Observatory and the clone armies in tow and providing cover fire to keep the bad guys distracted, Star Robo continues to press the attack against King Boo and Petey Piranha’s mecha destroyer. Soon the mecha destroyer hull becomes critical.
Epilogue and Debriefing
King Boo and Petey Piranha escape their mecha destroyer in an escape pod, while still in hyperspace, and the whole thing explodes. The Delta Omega matrix onboard the huge mecha/ship is activated, and splits Star Robo into its individual components, as they emerge from hyperspace, barreling right for the Mushroom Planet. They all crash in the vicinity of Toad Town, while Mario, Luigi and Bowser’s ships crash in the moat of Peach’s Castle, which happens to lead into the main river. Peach, Daisy and Rosalina exit their ships to dive into the water to save their comrades. They just manage to do so before they run out of air. Knowing they’ve won, everybody joins in a victory swim. The Koopstar Cruiser, the unlockable Starship Mario and the Comet Observatory are A-OK.
A new era of peace throughout the Universe is at hand, with the Mushroom and Koopa Kingdoms leading the islands of Delfino, Yoshi, DK and all the cosmos into a new era of openness and less hostility. King Boo and Petey Piranha, plus their armies are found and exiled to the most remote planet with enough supplies and shelter to protect themselves as the form of punishment for their crimes. They start bickering with each other all the way to the new planet. In a massive celebration, the heroes of the Universe, (Mario, Luigi, Bowser and Bowser Jr., followed by Peach, Daisy and Rosalina, with Toad and Yoshi rounding them all out) receive medals from all across the Universe.
As soon as they set off into the Cosmos again on a new adventure, King Boo and Petey Piranha find a dark, cursed paintbrush on the far side of their exile planet. When they try to paint something, out of the goop emerges a team that resembles dark, nega, shadow, or evil versions of the nine main heroes of the game. King Boo and Petey Piranha laugh evilly as their creations rise, becoming real, ready for the next game…
In this mode, you battle your enemy or enemies one galaxy at a time for total control of the Universe. Every galaxy has seven planetary battlefields to play battles out over, including the space battlefield surrounding the planets. You must attain victory on all the battlefields including the space one to completely control the galaxy. The main winner(s) of each galactic battle choose where their fleets and armies will attack next.
Each galaxy that you control grants your faction(s) a planetary bonus that can be used to enhance your forces or sabotage your enemy. For example, if Bowser controls the Yoshi Star Galaxy, any neutral Yoshis and Birdos will assist him, the Koopalings and the Koopa Troop by swallowing up and killing any enemy units during battle.
With each galactic victory, your dominance increases. There are also special bonuses that can change the tides of the game. After fourteen victories, your faction will be powerful enough to use the special bonus granted by your secret base or hub. If you control King Boo and Petey Piranha’s Empire as an example, you can use the power of the Delta Omegas to destroy an enemy galaxy.
In this mode, you choose your side and enemies that will fight your team. It can be the Mushroom Kingdom and its affiliated species (Humans, Toads, Yoshis, Birdos, Piantas, Nokis) versus anyone who serves in the Koopa Troop (Koopas, Bros, Monty Moles, Cheep-Cheeps, Bloopers, Bullet Bills, etc.). Or it could also be cosmic species like the Comet Observatory denizens (Humans, Lumas, Penguins, Bees and Gearmos) versus the Delta Omega Empire (King Boo, Petey Piranha and their corrupted species obeying their command). Modes of play include Assault, Conquest, Hunt and Capture the Flag. They either take place at a certain location in the Mario universe, or out in space above a planet where spaceships rage on in the continuous war for control of the Universe. You choose which mode and whose side you will be on for the battle.
The Conquest mode is the basic free play battle. Capturing command posts is the primary objective, as well as destroying your enemy’s army. Either Green or Blue command posts belong to your faction(s). Red command posts are under the control of your enemy’s armies. The planetary battlefield’s native forces such as the untamed but powerful Yoshis hold the yellow command posts. Neutral command posts appear white; anyone can claim them. To capture a command post, stand near it and defend the area until you have converted the post to your faction(s) control. A reinforcement meter at the top of the screen indicates the number of troops available for each battle. The Green or Blue numbers and bar indicate the number of troops your faction(s) have left to use. The Red and or Yellow numbers and bars indicate the remaining side of your enemy’s armies as well as the neutral/hostile forces on a battlefield. As your faction(s) capture more command posts, your dominance on the battlefield increases. Capture all the command posts, or reduce enemy reinforcements to zero to claim victory for your side.
Assault Class I: the classic heroes vs. villains free for all. Mario, Luigi and company are pitted against Bowser, King Boo, Petey Piranha and other notable nasties that have come out over the years. You cannot capture command posts, but you can do damage to enemy health and supply dispensers. If you can reach the required number of kills specified on a meter at the top of the screen, you will immediately claim certain victory. The next type, Assault Class II, is the space battles above planets and galaxies that we have visited. Your hub cruiser is under attack. Jump into any starfighter and launch from your hub cruiser’s hangar. Use the throttle to accelerate through space, or to slow down as you approach a hangar. In it, timing is of the essence, so all ships are equipped with a boost for a burst of speed. You mustn’t let the enemy get away; activate the target tracking system to follow their movements. They can run but they can’t hide. A distance indicator will tell you how far away the enemy is, and whether they’re above or below you. Clever pilots always lock on to the enemy; your missiles will seek a locked target. This is the best way to dispatch your foes. Use the bombers wisely to disable/destroy enemy shields and any other hard targets on the exterior of the enemy cruiser. Land in the enemy hangar to attack where they’re most vulnerable. Take them by surprise by bringing a squad of reinforcements in your transport. Your starfighters are no match for the might of a fully armed capital ship. Crafty pilots will even the odds with a bit of sabotage: strike the key systems from within; a time Bob-Omb or Bullet Bill Rocket will make short work of these targets Be the first one in points to win. And now you know what it will take to survive in an assault mode across space.
Hunt and Capture the Flag are two modes that are very different from each other. They include aspects of Conquest and Assault, but they do not involve capturing command posts or destroying enemy hard points. Hunt is where you and your faction have to defend or take over a specified area by killing a required amount of enemy reinforcements within a specified time limit to claim victory. Capture the Flag involves your side having to prevent the enemy from delivering the flag to your main command post, while trying to obtain the flag and deliver it back to their command post to score a set amount of points. In order to keep enemy reinforcements off the flag, you must kill them, but that won’t count as part of your scoring, which is determined by the flag only.
Now you know what it takes to survive any Instant Action mode game. For further instruction on the battlefield/in the cockpit, and a taste of real combat, play either the Story Mode or Galactic Conquest. Good luck cadet, and have fun with battles ahead!
Medal Run tests whether you can complete certain missions from the story or free play within a specified amount of time. Here’s the catch though: the enemies and items only spawn coins and star bits. If you manage to collect a hundred coins and or a hundred star bits by the time you complete a level, you will receive a medal. During the game, if your player loses a life, then you lose whatever items you might have picked up and you will have to restart the run all the way from point A and survive to the very end.
Flying your Starfighter and Miniships
As you can infer by the title, you will be controlling during story missions in Story Mode and Instant Action a starfighter that can traverse the Universe at light speed to take down the bad guys. Each ship is equipped with a series of primary laser cannons that shoot deadly bolts of energy that take out enemy units on the ground, in the air or out in space. When you play missions for collecting the Power Stars, you will have to leave your starfighter on the starting planet, but you can use it to return to your hub of choice at any given time if need be. Once you collect a star, your ship will arrive as your player hovers with the star, and will be able to deliver you back to the main hubs.
In Story Mode, depending on your character, you will either have secondary weapons (bombs and missiles) or special Luma powers that come from the Comet Observatory imbued into your player’s capabilities. Warriors and more tough characters like Bowser and to an extent, Daisy will be more likely to have secondary weapons solely equipped into their ship as well as the player. Balanced characters such as Mario and Luigi have a good mix of both secondary weapons systems as well as Luma powers from the Comet Observatory. The pacifists and more peaceful characters such as Peach and Rosalina for an example are likely to possess the special Luma powers.
Forming and Using Star Robo
At certain points in the story, the nine main playable characters will be able to form a giant fighting robot from the combination of their starfighters. In the style of Voltron crossed with Power Rangers, different starfighters will make up a certain limb or body part to form the massive Star Robo. Once formed, it will appear in front of rainbow backgrounds, and will combine all the main players’ melee weapons all into one. When the “Form Star Robo” icon appears when all the nine starfighters are in battle, hover the Wii remote cursor on the icon and a cutscene will detail Star Robo being formed.
Star Robo can attack by using its feet and hands for full-on contact attacks if you use the A-Button and the Directional Pad. If there are energy blasts that are ready to hit you, the horns on the robot’s helmet can turn into beam cannons to create a protective shield, and even fire mega-pulsar blasts to strike back an enemy attack. To create the beam and particle shield, hold down the B-Button. If you want a mega-pulsar blast shot at an enemy base or unit fleet/army, press both the A and B Buttons at the same time to strike. All the playable characters’ melee weapons can also be combined to create a giant blaster to deliver a final blow to a boss. To do this, hold down the Z-Button until you have enough charge to deliver a blast so powerful that it will destroy enemy ships.

1-Up Mushrooms – Give you an extra life.
Mini Mushrooms – Turn you small to fit in tight spaces, but watch out for enemies.
Mega Mushrooms – Turn you into a nigh invulnerable giant.
Bee Mushrooms – Give you the power to crawl and fly like bees.
Life Mushrooms – For heated battles, increase your life count if near empty from a three hit capability to a six hit for a longer lasting supply of life.
Boo Mushrooms – Give you the power to hover and transcend reality like a Boo.
Spring Mushrooms – Wrap a heavy duty spring around you to jump great heights.
Propeller Mushrooms – Hovering like a helicopter/airplane is easy with these.
Rock Mushrooms – Turn you into a boulder, which can flatten the worst enemies.
Cloud Flowers – Turn you into a cloud to create temporary hovering cloud walkways.
Stars/Rainbow Stars – Take one of these, and you can shoot though enemies and obstacles as though they weren’t even there at all.
Frog Suits – Enhance your swimming and underwater attacks in regular water.
P-Wings – Turn you into the Raccoon version of your player to fly indefinitely

Currency and Progress Items
Coins - the main currency of the Mushroom Kingdom. If the player jumps up and hits a ? Block, sometimes Coins pop out. When one hundred Coins are collected, the player is rewarded with an extra life. The count of coins then returns to zero, enabling the player to earn 100 coins again.
A trail of Rainbow Notes. A large amount of Star Bits or Coins. A power-up. A Sling Star. Another ? Coin. A Life Mushroom. A 1-Up Mushroom.
Most of the time, your character is given a time limit to collect whatever appears and if your character is able to successfully collect it within the time limit, your character will receive a prize. Most likely, it will be a 1-Up Mushroom, but it is also possible for it to be three 1-Up Mushrooms, a Power-up, more coins or Star Bits or, very rarely, a Rainbow Star.
Purple Coins - special Coins that are scattered after you complete Story Mode the first time. They will only appear in the regular galaxies when a Purple Comet is in orbit of a Galaxy. The player will always need to collect 100 Purple Coins to make a Power Star appear. Purple Coin Missions sometimes have a time limit. When there is a time limit, the Purple Coins are usually either set along a linear path, or over a hundred will appear and only one hundred of them will need to be collected. Additionally, once the Power Star appears, the player must collect it before the remaining time runs out.
Power Stars - mystical artifacts with great power. Unlike the regular Stars, which only give limited invincibility, Power Stars grant the player great strength, power, energy and speed. Collect these to restore more vision of galaxies and the Universe for the hub of your choice.
Grand Stars - very large and powerful Power Stars. These will help restore the Comet Observatory's, the Koopstar Cruiser's, or the Starship Mario's Long-Range Scanning vision to check out the next mission acts.
Silver Stars - special Stars. In this game, your character must collect five of these Stars in some levels to form a Power Star. According to a Bee in Super Mario Galaxy 2, the five Silver Stars fall from the sky.
Green Stars - green-colored Power Stars. When collecting Green Stars, the player will have to do a certain mission of a galaxy again. Green Stars are usually found in hard to reach or hidden areas of the galaxies. Additionally, the Green Stars only appear when a galaxy is orbited by a Green Comet, which will appear once they are unlocked.
Star Chips - items that appear in sets of five, obviously representing the five points of a star. When your character collects all five of the yellow pieces, a Launch Star will appear. There are also blue Star Chips in addition to the regular yellow ones. Blue Star Chips are far less common, though they do prove integral to the successful completion of several levels. When all five are collected, they create a Pull Star. Sometimes, upon completing a set of yellow Star Chips, several Pull Stars will appear in addition to the Launch Star. When the first Star Chip is collected, a small icon representing the Launch Star (or Pull Star) will appear at the top middle of the screen, and will gradually be filled up in a clockwise direction as your character collects more Star Chips.
Invincible Player - Achieved by getting a Star, for about 15–20 seconds, your player character will become a rainbow, able to plow through enemies without getting hurt by their puny attacks.
Small Player - If you want to get into tight or small spaces, use a Small Mushroom in order to explore them!
Mega Player - Too many enemies? Obtain a Mega Mushroom and go wild on your enemies with the greatest of ease!
Bee Player - Need to fly without a starfighter? Find a Bee Flower and buzz across the galaxies! But be careful, as there's a limited amount of flight ability, but don't worry! They recharge their flight ability easy!
Six Lives - Going up against a tough boss, and you're unsure about whether you can make it on three lives? Go to the Luma Shop, and pay 30 Star Bits to get one, and your life count doubles to six! But be careful. Take three hits and you're right back to square one with three lives!
Boo Player - Need to get past Boos in haunted galaxies? Pick up a Boo Mushroom and float like a Boo, go through walls and even be invisible! But whatever you do, stay away from the light, or your goose is cooked!
Propeller Player - Need to get to high or inaccessible places without a starfighter? In conjunction with the P-Wing, the Red Star and Tanooki Suit, pick up a Propeller Mushroom and direct your flight to where you need or want to go, but like a helicopter! The best part is that it never runs out unless you take damage!
Frog Player - Used in tandem with the Penguin Suit, this lets you swim better and get down to places you would never dream about!
Penguin Player - Used in tandem with the Frog Suit and the Ice Flower, this not only lets you swim better, but also gives you the power to skate and throw Ice Balls like the Ice Flower from time to time!
Tanooki Player - Need to get to high or inaccessible places without a starfighter? In conjunction with the P-Wing, the Propeller Mushroom and Red Star, pick up a Tanooki Suit and direct your flight to where you need or want to go! The best part is that it never runs out unless you take damage!
P-Wing Raccoon Player - Need to get to high or inaccessible places without a starfighter? In conjunction with the Tanooki Suit, the Propeller Mushroom and Red Star, pick up a P-Wing and direct your flight to where you need or want to go! The best part is that it never runs out unless you take damage!
Flying Player - Need to get to high or inaccessible places without a starfighter? In conjunction with the Tanooki Suit, the Propeller Mushroom and P-Wing, pick up a Red Star and direct your flight to where you need or want to go! But the amount of flight runs out after about 45 seconds, so be careful where you land!
Luma Lightning - Peach's offensive move creates a maelstrom of pure lightning that shocks enemy units until they vaporize.
Heart Shield - Peach's defensive move creates a shield of pure aura to protect her from both ray and particle-based attacks.
Energy Reflex - Peach's strategic move slows down time so that she can strike enemies with lightning-fast reflexes, at least to the others that is.
Magnum Shockwave - Daisy's offensive move creates a ring of pure energy that vaporizes enemies that even dare to tough it.
Confuse Ray - Rosalina's strategic move blinds the enemies' scanning abilities.
Hyper Beam - Rosalina's offensive move creates a beam of pure energy to slice through thick vehicle and or ship armor.
Mirror Coat - Rosalina's defensive move creates a mirror over her ship to deflect the puny attacks of ray-based attacks.
Mana Healing - Daisy's defensive move creates a maelstrom of Mana that heals any friendly craft, as well as her own in heated battles.
Mushroom Shield - Mario picks up the Royal Mushroom Shield as his weapon, using it to defend as well as attack. It can both block and slash enemies!
Bloom Arrow/Bow - Daisy's weapon of choice is her trusty Bloom Arrows and Bow. This gives the phrases "Girl Power" and "Flower Power" a whole new meaning!
Luma Maces - Rosalina's weapon of choice is the Luma Maces that the Lumas helped her make to defend the Comet Observatory from intruders. Hey! Who says the most powerful being in the Mushroom Galaxy can't have a nifty defense?!
Magnum Bolas - Think two Bullet Bills on one stick to be thrown. Bowser Junior shifts the phrase "kill two birds with one stone" into "kill one bird with two stones, and that will take a few others with it!".
Yoshi Egg Grenades -
Energy Blaster Rifle - In an rather unroyal move, Bowser ditches the family weapon of fire breath and picks up a heavy gun to use as his weapon.
Enemies and Enemy Ships
Goombas - Goombas are among the most basic enemies, but many of them have been drafted or brainwashed as slaves into King Boo and Petey Piranha’s sinister plans. They can typically be defeated with a single punch, stomp, or fireball attack. Although Goombas are physically weak, they are very adaptable. Regular Goombas have been seen in all types of terrain, while many sub-species have come for certain environments.
Paragoombas - Paragoombas, also known as Winged Goombas, are a variety of Goomba that possess small wings protruding from either their head or torso. Just like Koopa Paratroopas, they jump up and down and will shed their wings and change into their regular form upon being stomped on the head. They are very easy to defeat when under Bowser, but many of them will have to be freed or defeated because of King Boo and Petey Piranha capturing all of them.
Koopa Troopas - Koopa Troopas are turtle-like creatures with shells that come in many different colors, with red and green Koopa Troopas being most common. Koopas, along with Goombas, are some of Mario's most common foes. Some of them have been drafted into slavery/brainwashed into serving King Boo and Petey Piranha’s scheme for complete intergalactic domination.
Koopa Paratroopas -
Boos - Boos are common ghost-enemies that are a type of white spherical ghost with menacing and constantly open mouths. They are known for their large tongues and small "arms" of some sort. However, the most distinctive characteristic of the Boos is their shy personality where they cover their faces when someone looks them directly at the face but will uncover their faces once the subject turned around. King Boo took many of his loyal followers after his second defeat at the hands of Luigi to help their species get back at him now by starting development of the powerful Delta Omega.
Magikoopas - Magikoopas are a subspecies of Koopa Troopas with glasses and can cast spells. They wear blue robes and hats resembling the garb of a wizard or mage. They are generally considered to be high ranking members of the Koopa Troop, and some act as personal advisers for King Bowser Koopa. With Kamek joining the ranks of King Boo and Petey Piranha, he has taken many of Bowser’s loyal Magikoopas with him.

Pokeys - A Pokey is a cactus enemy that is composed of three to five spherical body segments. To defeat a Pokey, typically each body section must be destroyed. This can be accomplished through a Ground Pound or by the throwing of a Koopa Shell.
King Boo – King Boo is the leader of the Boos. He was also an ally of Bowser, King of the Koopas, and has aided the Koopa leader in his various schemes. He first appeared as Luigi's nemesis, and is more than capable of devising and enacting villainous plans by himself, including his capture and imprisonment of the hero Mario. Although not the biggest Boo in the Mushroom World, King Boo has abilities that far surpass that of the average ghost, and wields a number of impressive magical abilities, including the ability to materialize objects out of thin air. King Boo's magical power is directly proportional to the number of Boos in his vicinity. For revenge on Luigi and intergalactic domination, he partners with Petey Piranha.
Petey Piranha - Petey Piranha is an abnormally large Piranha Plant with petals on his head all around his chin. Petey Piranha is thought to be a loyal follower of Bowser, but this is undetermined, and is wrong in this game as he actively partners with King Boo against Mario and Bowser to defeat the both of them once and for all. It is quite likely that he is the ruler of his kind. He has multiple special powers that set him apart from normal Piranha Plants, including spitting Goop, flying and attacking with vines.
Kamek - Kamek is an old, yet powerful, Magikoopa and apparent advisor to Bowser (or at least high-ranking member in the Koopa Troop). He has broken ties with the Koopa King himself in an attempt to usurp the throne, and has joined forces with King Boo and Petey Piranha in order to gain complete control of the Koopa Kingdom. Can Mario and Bowser stop him and convince him to come back to their side, if they promise a better position?
Whomp King - Whomp King is the king of all the Whomps. He and his tribe are so sensitive to the fact that they haven’t been given any respect, even from King Bowser himself. Out of frustration, Whomp King joined forces with King Boo and Petey Piranha to protect and guard their many outposts for conquering and or destroying the universe.
Topmaniac - Topmaniac is a boss. It resembles a red spinning top, and is the leader of the Topman tribe. Topmaniac is simply a larger Topman. Most Topmen have spikes on their tops, but Topmaniac has ten yellow spikes on its side and a flat, red, top. It attacks the player by spinning into it with its spikes and occasionally by jumping into it. After being defeated, King Boo and Petey Piranha took him into their plot for domination and revenge, in which he was glad to, after what Mario and Luigi did to him those years ago.
Major Burrows - Major Burrows is a boss that lives on one of the planets of the Gusty Garden Galaxy and is the leader of the Undergrunts that wreaked havoc there. After being defeated, he took most of his minions to a far corner of the Mushroom Galaxy, where they were found by King Boo and Petey Piranha, while they were looking for partners in their new empire of evil. In a desire for galactic conquest and revenge on Mario and Luigi, Major Burrows pledged his services to King Boo and Petey Piranha.
