Not to be confused with Blue Jay of Lightning (t∣b∣c)'s Mario and Sonic at the Dream Olympic Games.
Mario & Sonic at the Dream Olympic Games is an upcoming sports game and is the seventh installment of the Mario & Sonic series. Unlike past installments, this isn't based on any real-world Olympics, but instead it takes place in the worlds of Mario and Sonic which allows them to provide more "Dream Events", especially since the previous game only had three. It had been in development since 2019, but never had more information revealed until three years later; the game will be released for the Nintendo Switch in 2023, which is planned to be the 15th anniversary of the series.
Like Tokyo 2020, most characters wear appropriate sports clothing depending on the chosen event. While 2D Events are absent (due to limitations), the game features events from the Summer and Winter games. The game, instead, introduces Fusion Events, where the event combines several events and take place in a specific universe.

Gameplay[]
Like other games in the Mario and Sonic series, Mario and Sonic at the Dream Olympic Games is a collection of various sports as well as remixed versions of sports called "Dream Events" that take place in locations of previous installments in the Mario and Sonic series. However, as the name implies the remixed "Dream Events" have a more bigger presence, remixing multiple Summer and Winter sport events. There are various events added, which include ???.
There are different controls that can be used in each event: with buttons on a controller only, a single Joy-Con, and dual Joy-Cons, like the previous game. Thera are many different modes from past games that return in this game including a story mode, a tournament-style mode that are similar to the original game's Circuits, the original Winter's Festival mode, a Party Mode that combines elements from Vancouver 2010 and London 2012, Action & Answer Tour from Sochi 2014, Heroes Showdown from Rio 2016, and a Mission Mode that combines elements from various past games.

Playable[]
The game features a total of 50 playable characters. Unlike past games, all characters from Team Mario and Team Sonic are playable in every single event, with the 20 playable characters that have been playable since the second installment are playable from the start. This is the first game in the series to have traditional unlockable characters, being unlocked through the different modes. Additionally, Miis appear for the first time since Rio 2016, along with the Olympic debut of the Custom Hero from Sonic Forces.
The specific character typing has returned, after being absent from the past two games; those types are named: Balanced (equal balance of all stats), Speedy (high speed and acceleration), Powerful (high power and stamina), and Technique (high skill but weak power).
