Differences from Other Mario & Luigi games

  • This is one of the few games where Bowser isn't the tutorial boss, with Hidoidesu occupying that role instead.
  • The Japanese title isn't followed by a number.
  • This is the first game in the series to have a human villain and the third to have a female main antagonist.
  • This is the second game which doesn't feature the Beanish species at all.
  • This is one of the games in the series in which the battle can't be won, the tutorial fight against Hidoidesu can't be won, the others being Superstar Saga's Fawful, Partners in Time's Shroobs, Bowser's Inside Story's Midbus, and Paper Jam's Paper Goomba Wheel.

References to other games

  • Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga: The way Hidoidesu summons the Koopalings is similar to Bowletta summoning the Koopalings in this game, also, part of Forest Delfino's music is a cover of Chucklehuck Woods.
  • Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story: When engaging a battle with Kamek, Kamek says "What do you think this is? An Inside Story?!", Toothys reappear in Madness Strikes.
