Final Smash Poltergust 5000/Negative Zone

Luigi makes his fifth return to the Super Smash Bros. franchise in Super 5mash Bros. 5. Luigi is a confirmed unlockable character instead of a starting character which was the case in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. Luigi retains many of his attacks with very few differences though he has a slightly slower run than before but he jump slightly higher than before. Special Set A

Name Damage Description
Neutral Special Fireball 6% Luigi fires a weak, green ball of flame that ignores gravity.
Custom 1 Bouncing Fireball 6% (clean), 5% (mid), 4% (late) Luigi fires a fireball that bounces similar to Mario's. However, the bouncing arc is more vertical. This move weakens with distance.
Custom 2 Ice Ball 4% Luigi fires a slow-moving iceball that freezes enemies at higher percents.
Side Special Green Missile 10% (uncharged), ~19.8% (fully charged) 25% (misfire) Luigi charges up and shoots forward like a missile. If used on the ground for too long, it cancels the charge. This move has a 1/10 chance to misfire, which has greater damage, knockback, and always go the same distance no matter the charge.
Custom 1 Floating Missile ~4.3% (uncharged), ~18% (fully charged), 23% (misfire) This only goes straight, which can be more accurate to hitting enemies and getting back on stage. However, it deals less damage. In return, it charges up twice as fast.
Custom 2 Quick Missile ~5.15% (uncharged), ~20% (fully charged), 20% (misfire) Luigi flies farther, but missing causes him to slide across the ground and be open for an attack.
Up Special Super Jump Punch 25% (ground sweetspot), 20% (air sweetspot), 1% (otherwise) Luigi performs an uppercut from a super jump that deals massive amounts of damage if sweetspotted and pitiful damage otherwise.
Custom 1 Fiery Jump Punch 18% (ground sweetspot), 15% (air sweetspot), 1% (otherwise) Makes it easier to hit the sweetspot at the expense of its power and the move's height.
Custom 2 Burial Header 8% (descent), 8% (landing), 1% (otherwise) Instead of a fiery sweetspot, Luigi deals burying damage as he falls. Luigi will also get up much faster.
Down Special Luigi Cyclone 1.5% (loop hits), 3% (last hit) Luigi rapidly spins around dealing damage the opponent before sending them flying.
Custom 1 Mach Cyclone 6% Pushes back opponents who are close, and can rise a great amount compared to the other variations. However, only the ending does any damage.
Custom 2 Clothesline Cyclone 8% Slower, and only hits once, but is stronger. But Luigi cannot float with it.

Special Custom Set B

Name Damage Description
Neutral Special Thunderhand 3.2% (loop) Luigi can hold down the special in which he generates a blast of electricity in the shape of a ball from his hands. The longer he holds, the smaller and weaker it becomes. Holding it to long ads 1% damage to Luigi for every hit.
Custom 1 Distant Thunderhand 10% Instead of holding it down for an extended period of time, Luigi releases the attack which will burst out with electrical energy a set distance away; zapping opponents and launching them.
Custom 2 Sparking Thunderhand 14%, 12%, 10%, 8%, 4%, 2% Instead of performing multiple consecutive hits, holding down the special will cause Luigi to expel out several bursts of electricity which does less damage the longer it is held and become smaller and slower.
Side Special Piranha Plant 8% (clean), 5% (late) Luigi pulls out a Piranha Plant which will strike out an try to bite opponents. It has the side effect to causing Luigi to fall towards where the plant is biting; being pulled along. Pushing to the other way causes it to be less powerful in terms of being pulled. Once the Piranha Plant bites, it does a freezeframe if clean and then launches opponents. It only has a duration of time before it vanishes. Being hit causes the plant to vanish.
Custom 1 Swallowing Piranha Plant 4% (swallow), 3.8% (per chew), 3% (spit) Instead of doing multiple bites, it will bite forward; swallowing anyone nearby; chew on the opponent and then spit them out. Struggling lessens the duration as does the opponents damage percentage.
Custom 2 Fireball Piranha Plant 7% The Piranha Plant will expel out fireballs which travel forward much like Luigi's Fireballs though with less distance. It can expel up to 7-9 fireballs before vanishing.
Up Special Spin Jump 2.5% (loop) Luigi bursts up while spinning rapidly and will then slowly float down while slowly spinning though will enter into a helpless state shortly after the descent starts, being hit, or pressing down. It will cause the opponents to be hit during the spinning portions thought he slow spinning portions do not do damage.
Custom 1 Whirling Jump 5.2% (per hit) It doesn't carry the opponents along with Luigi but will knock them away when Luigi comes too close. It has a more wild trajectory, wobbling back and forth instead of a straight spin.
Custom 2 Floating Spin Jump 0% Doesn't do damage but it has more traveling distance. In addition, Luigi has more control over his trajectory; tilting the controls tick allows Luigi to move around more freely.
Down Special Poltergust 3000 4% (suck in), 10% (shoot out) Luigi can vacuum in an opponent and then fire them out by letting go of the special. Luigi can also suck in items an then launch them at a fixed damage at 10%.
Custom 1 Freezing Poltergust 6% Will fire a blast of ice which has the potential to freeze opponents at higher percentages.
Custom 2 Windy Poltergust 0% It won't suck in opponents but it will blow opponents away but grows weaker the longer it is held.

Final Smash

Name Damage Description
Final Smash 1 Poltergust 5000 30% (captured), 10% (throw) The Poltergust 5000 from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon suddenly appears on Luigi's back. He then proceeds to suck up nearby opponents. Then, he will shoot them out and potentially K.O. them.
Final Smash 2 Negative Zone 5.3% Causes all kinds of status effects on opponents. It will also damage opponents as long as they stay in the sphere. It has a much more expanded and chaotic visual and can stretch out to absorb opponents in.

Italics means they have to be unlocked.

  • Crosses his arms behind his back and performs a small, shy kick, along with a bashful "Hm" in Brawl and Smash 4. The kick can damage an opponent if it connects. In all games, it acts as a meteor smash; in Brawl and Smash 4, Luigi's taunt is the strongest meteor smash at 0%, due to its fixed knockback. However, its pitiful range and slow startup severely limits its effectiveness. It is similar to his pose when he loses a minigame in Mario Party 2. (Up)
  • Performs five quick poses, one after the other. When switching from pose to pose he says, "Ho Ha Hee Hay Hoo". 1st pose: Luigi flashes a V-Sign. 2nd pose: Luigi clicks his fingers imitating guns, while looking to the right. 3rd pose: Luigi takes on a thinking pose, his eyes looking offscreen. This pose is, in some respects, similar to his Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time artwork. 4th pose: Crouches down to the floor with his back turned to the player. 5th pose: Luigi assumes his trophy position from the SSE, but with his left leg slightly raised. This pose also resembles his artwork from Luigi's Mansion (Right)
  • Boos appear around Luigi and he makes a frightened pose. Two or four Boos will appear; rotating around Luigi.
  • Stands straight up with hands on hips, falls forward stiff on the floor, then seems to balance himself back up again. He says something that resembles "Pow pow". This is also one of his victory poses from SSBM and the pose in his SSB4 artwork. (Down)

  • Falls twice, stiff as a board.
  • Childishly swings his arms at the air, then gasps twice with exhaustion. (His "character chosen" animation in Super Smash Bros.)
