Director'sNoteHappy Today was the day when Lark was officially confirmed to join the Smash Universe Roster! Lark is a very unique fighter who uses all sorts of gadgets and gizmos from his debut game, Pilotwings 64. Often, I get quite a few questions on why I decided to let Lark join the roster. The reason that I picked Lark, was simply because I wanted some type of character to represent Pilotwings. Of course, with a series like Pilotwings, your mainly flying planes or any other type of aircraft. Looking back on the original SNES version, there were only two characters to select from, being Big Al, and the Golden Pilot. Looking at Pilotwings 64, you had Lark, Kiwi, Goose, Ibis, Hawk, and Robin/Hooter. I don't count Pilotwings Resort for the 3DS because it featured Mii's as the characters, and we already have Mii Fighters on the roster! It was then, that after looking at the fanart of Pilotwings characters, that I decided on Lark. He was pretty iconic, and in addition he was a nice nod to Nester, the mascot of the former Nintendo Power magazine! It was a home-run! In addition, I added Kiwi as an alternate character for Lark, complete with her own palette swaps! The other pilots however, are simply referenced in color swaps for Lark and Kiwi, so I didn't forget them! I hope that you all will enjoy Lark's appearance in Smash Universe! - The Director
