Kirby Dream Maker is an upcoming Level Creator Game part of the Nintendo Maker Games, it is the third Nintendo Maker game and second by Darklight Studios. It focuses of the Kirby Series utilizing various aspects of the Kirby Chronology to allow players to create, play and share levels they create. Unlike Zelda Dungeon Editor & Super Mario Maker the game is much more expansive having player's allowed to make signficantly larger levels that can cross between multiple sections across several themes visited throughout the Kirby Franchise.

Gameplay

The Gameplay is split into two formats; Maker & Player. In Maker Phase the player edits and tests their levels to create co-herent and completable levels for the player and others to complete. The Player format has the player play levels for a variety of reasons to test their skills.

Maker Format

In Maker Format the player is presented with a range of options on how to create their levels. Levels can have up to 6 Zones which can be accessed via doors and portals and in the 64 & Modern Formats can be layered to create two zones that the player can jump from one to the other via. Orange Warp Stars.

A huge variety of enemies, objects, obstacles, items & themes can be selected from Kirby's history which not only gives some enemies new appearances but also gives new versions of themes in Kirby. Certain Enemies and objects change depending on what the Kirby Era that's being used is, additionally the player is limited to a selection of Bosses for each Era and can have 2 Mini-Bosses and 1 Boss in their level if they want.

Player Format

The Player Format is split up into a large range of sub-games from the Kirby Series, the main Sub-Games are the 100 Kirby Challenge & Temporal Galaxy Wishes, the prior being reminiscent of the 100 Mario Challenge from Super Mario Maker while the latter is a nod to the Milky Way Wishes from Kirby Super Star. In addition several Sub-Games from various eras of Kirby's gaming history appear in newly formatted versions as well as the ever-present Arenas.

Game Themes

Like Zelda Dungeon Editor & Super Mario Maker, Kirby Dream Maker uses artstyles from various games in the series, ranging from old to new the games featured are either solo-entries due to their diversity or part of a set known as an Era. These Eras use a similar or identical artstyle and contain aspects of all Games within the era.

Theme Description

Kirby's AdventureKirby's Dream Land 2

Classic Era

The oldest games in the series (not counting the original Dream Land), the Classic Era features simplistic, albeit endearing gameplay and that classic Kirby charm paired with 8-Bit Melodies.

Kirby Super Star

Super Star

A real bag of treats, Super Star's Theme is filled to the brim thanks to Super Star's combination of Sub-Games. Unique Objects like the Wheely Rider & Ability Pedestals can be used and Makers can change between Super Star & Super Star Ultra's Graphical appearance at will.

Kirby's Dream Land 3

Dream Land 3

With one of the most unique artstyles in the series, Kirby's Dream Land 3 is any Maker's go-to for Animal Buddy themed levels and those soft-looking visuals often only seen in Epic Yarn & Rainbow Curse.

Kirby 64 The Crystal Shards

Crystal Shards

Arguably one of the most unique styles of level design, Crystal Shards has the unique capability to having the level twist and turn at various points to make it appear more natural in traversing said levels.

Kirby and the Amazing MirrorKirby Squeak Squad

New Fiends Era

The second handheld era of Kirby was gifted with two games, The Amazing Mirror and Squeak Squad. Aspects from both games are utilized in the New Fiends Era Game Theme including their unique bosses and special gameplay mechanics. From The Amazing Mirror side levels can be vertically themed with many twisting rooms and corridors while from Squeak Squad the ability to store Copy Abilities and Items comes into play.

Kirby's Return to Dreamland

Return to Dreamland

One of the more unique, artistically game themes, the Return to Dreamland Game Theme puts Kirby in exaggerated versions of the Area Themes and gives Kirby access to his Super Copy Abilities.

Kirby Triple DeluxeKirby Planet Robobot

3DS Era

The modern Kirby games on the 3DS, Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot bring a string of features to the gameplay when chosen as the game theme. The option to create layered levels becomes possible allowing for more visually dynamic and maze-like levels while the option for Miracle Fruit or Robobot Armour is the special objects of this era.

Kirby: King of Dreamland TitleKirby Hero of Dreamland Logo

War of Zero Era

The War of Zero era uses a mechanic similar to the ability pedestals from Super Star with the Ability Stars that can be placed instead, in addition the games permit for both layered and chained level layouts allowing for location themes to flow from one to another, the levels also heavily utilize the difficulty spike that these two games were known for by having stage hazards that would appear in particular blocks unless the maker went over the block with a new type.

Kirby Treasure of the Cosmic Ocean Logo

Treasure of the Cosmic Ocean

Adventure through the cosmos with the Treasure of the Cosmic Ocean Game Theme. With this theme in trade for no significanlty unique differences to older Kirby Games, the Treasure of the Cosmic Ocean offers more variety for level design by giving more options for objects as well as the floating objects that predominantly appear in this game.

Kirby the Fallen God Logo

Fallen God

With the Fallen God game theme players can create twice the number of stages via the Plane Shifting ability. With this ability like in the game this theme is based off Kirby melds with his enemies and Mid-Bosses and Bosses of this theme will use this plane shifting as well assuming it is enabled by the Maker.

Playable Characters

There are several Kirby Characters that can be played with different aspects to their gameplay having benefits and disadvantages for each one.
