Some strange dark forces have brought Zero back to life! And he has used his powers to bring back old foes from Kirby's adventures. These monsters have stolen the Rainbow Shards, which give the color to Pop Star. Concerned about Pop Star being colorless forever, Kirby sets off to get back the Rainbow Shards and destroy Zero once again. He better hurry up, as Zero isn't fully awake and, therefore, he's just in his primary form. Yet.
The controls are very similar to those in Kirby's Return to Dream Land: The player holds the Wii Remote sideways, moves Kirby with the D-Pad, jumps with 2, attacks with 1 and uses the Super Inhale by shaking the remote. However, there's the new addition that the players can use his/her current Copy Ability to cast a helper. The helpers move on their own and have their own life bar which is placed below its summoner.
Up to 4 players can join the adventure. However, they'll only be able to pick a recolored Kirby. The second player will be yellow, the third player blue and the fourth player green. The other players can also summon helpers which will be marked by a player-colored arrow to avoid confussions.
Kirby is the only playable character this time. However, he'll be aided by the helpers he summons and his recolored look-a-likes, who can join and leave the game at any moment.

- Magolor was meant to be one of the Rainbow Shard thieves. However, the developers thought he was too "recent" to make a comeback already. He was eventually scrapped and, in his place, Wham Bam Rock was put.
