Kingdoms of Fighters is a new umbrella title created by Toroko, exclusive to The V² console. This new umbrella fighter is more in the vein of a traditional fighter, similar to Omega Ruin with elements from the Fighters of Lapis series and Multiverse Fighters series that preceded it.

The game builds off the original team-based concept of Fighters of Lapis 7, and uses a system not unlike Omega Ruin for attacks. The game is described as somewhere in the middle of a traditional fighter like Street Fighter and Smash Bros. as all special moves have been vastly simplified and the player just needs to execute them during MAX Mode, but features several traits from more traditional fighting games like low and high attacks and low and high blocking. The game also does not feature stages made of platforms but the traditional flat ground stages. More information on gameplay can be found it's aptly titled section.

A sequel to the game called Kingdoms of Fighters B: Fight for the Future was released about a year later, featuring more robust team building mechanics and a extremely expanded roster, with most veterans featuring more moves and more robust movesets. The game also featured a three saga story mode and a new assortment of collectibles.

Gameplay

Kingdoms of Fighters adopts the two button system from Omega Ruin, which is similar to what was seen in Super Smash Bros., although executed in a manner more similar to Street Fighter or King of Fighters. Each character has four high attacks (Neutral, Side, Up, and Down standard attacks) and four low attacks (Neutral, Side, Up, and Down special attacks) to use, using either the V2Action Red for high attacks or V2Action Green for low attacks, as well as a directional input. Characters can also jump using the triggers or the up directional movement on the pad. Players use V2Action Purple to block (down blocks low attacks and up blocks high attacks, neutral blocks neutral attacks) or parry attacks, and V2Action Blue to unleash MAX Mode, which will allow the player to execute special moves depending on what level their Super Bar is. The player can taunt using the directional buttons on the controller.

MAX Mode Moves are as follows:

  • Level 1 Moves - Quick moves that can be executed by attacking. Do extra damage compared to normal moves but aren't super punishing.
  • Level 2 Moves - Drain the Super Bar quicker, but are far more punishing. Usually characters only have one of these moves at their disposal and can execute it twice before the meter drops.
  • Level 3 Moves - Calls in a teammate to do a super punishing attack. Only one can be executed and drains the Super Bar entirely.

Additionally, some characters have a Active Skill MAX that activates once they unleash MAX Mode. This can change stats of either the player or the opponent once activated, and will stop having effect once the meter runs dry.

When beginning a match, the player must pick three characters on the roster in which to form a team with. Each battle also allows the player to pick the order of characters in their team will go up against their opponent. During battle, players can call in a assist move from their team members when they activate MAX Mode on Level 3. When the player defeats the opposing fighter on the enemy's team, they regain some health in the next round. This is dependent on the time left on the clock; there are 90 seconds per round.

  • 45+ seconds = 40% health
  • 44 to 30 seconds = 35% health
  • 29 to 18 seconds = 25% health
  • 17 to 0 or timeout = 15% health

Modes

Story Mode: EVOLVE

StoryModeEvolve

Story Mode: EVOLVE is the arcade/story mode introduced into this game, where the player fights various opponents over ten rounds. Some characters have unique endings to this mode, as well as unique boss fights and fighter encounters. Much of the content in the game can be unlocked through playing the Story Mode.

Setting and Premise

EVOLVE takes place on the planet of Aeo, which is populated by a variety of kingdoms such as the Candy Kingdom or the Cave Kingdom, usually fitting in either a franchise of characters or a general idea that they share.

The event kicking off EVOLVE began with a mysterious earthquake rocking the outskirts of the relatively unclaimed land of Tyrannia. In the aftermath, it appeared that a mysterious spire had been revealed, which researchers dubbed the Obelisk. Researchers departed from the Obelisk once it began to glow out a beacon that could be seen faintly in the sky of every kingdom, although most learned of it relayed through other means.

As the kingdoms assembled teams to get to the Obelisk, a mysterious woman named Pandora began to appear on the scene, subtly influencing events for mysterious means....

Story Routes

EVOLVE features multiple story routes focusing on teams or individual characters. The endings, bosses, and more are dependent on your character choices and who lands the final blow on the final boss. Each story route have beginning, middle and end story beats. There are a total of ten rounds in EVOLVE that the player has to go to finish the story mode for that team or character. In one of these rounds, the player must go up against a Boxman robot (Darrel, Shannon, or Raymond); these rounds are completely random but Darrels always appear within the first three rounds, Shannons appear in the fourth, fifth, or sixth round, and Raymond always appears either in the seventh, eighth, or ninth. The tenth round has players go up against the final team and then the final boss.

Each of the several endings in Kingdoms of Fighters relies on the character having either at least two characters in the same faction (aka Finn and Jake) or in the case of solo endings, that character landing the final blow on the final boss. If for example, the player had Finn, Jake, and Wario on their team, if the player landed the final blow on the boss with Finn or Jake, they would get the Candy Kingdom Ending. However, if they landed the final blow with Wario, they would get the Wario ending.

Character Information
WarioKingdomsofFighters
Wario

Wario, the greedy but hard working doppelganger of Mario, is one of the few characters that have no allegiance to any of the warring kingdoms. Able to use his trademark shoulder charge to barge through anyone that goes through him and his ground pound to keep his opponents low to the ground, Wario is a strong character that is incredibly tough, but doesn't quite have a lot of speed.

MAX MODE MOVES

  • Level 1 (+Up): Spring Wario - His body turns into a springy coil and then slams into the ground for a powerful attack from the air.
  • Level 1 (+Down): Compressor - A weight drops from above, able to deal damage to the opponent should they not dodge in time.
  • Level 2: Black Brick - Tosses a big block of black bricks at his opponent, dealing a ton of damage.
  • Level 3 Team Move: Zombie Wario - Drops in and instantly harms the opponent should they touch him, dealing tons of damage.
CSyrup
Captain Syrup

Captain Syrup is equally, if not more so, greedier than Wario, and tends to outsmart him through her cunning as opposed to Wario's muscle. While the two respect each other to a extent, treasure and power come first. Captain Syrup mainly fights through throwing her crew at opponents and setting up guards, being a mostly defense fighter with speed, not raw strength.

MAX MODE MOVES

  • Level 1 (+Up): Bubble Syrup - Captain Syrup encases herself into a bubble, knocking the opponent high into the air before popping for one last damaging attack.
  • Level 1 (+Side): Bobo - Captain Syrup's pet bird, who swoops in to attack with it's talons.
  • Level 2: Giant Spear Man - A rampaging, giant robotic spear man who has several defenses to get through if the opponent wishes to destroy it. One hit will send the opponent flying.
  • Level 3 Team Move: Teacup Mech - Flys in a teacup mech that shoots bombs, dealing heavy damage to opponents with each explosion.
PrincessShokoraKOF
Princess Shokora

Princess Shokora is the spirit that lies within the Golden Pyramid, having died when she was a teenager. Only those she guides in the Golden Pyramid can set her soul free, but perhaps the Obelisk can free her too. She attacks by going through various personas and creatures, giving her various advantages and disadvantages with every move.

MAX MODE MOVES

  • Level 1 (+Neutral): Apple Bomb - Shokora lights the Apple Bomb and kicks it towards her opponent, dealing damage.
  • Level 1 (+Side): Blast Cannon - Shokora lights a cannon on fire, blasting it towards her opponent for damage.
  • Level 1 (+Down): Vizorman - Shokora sets down a Vizorman, having it fire a powerful laser at her opponent.
  • Level 1 (+Up): Bugle - Shokora plays the bugle, harming the opponent with her dreaded notes.
  • Level 2: Black Dog - Shokora transforms into a yellow eyed black dog, biting the opponent for damage.
  • Level 3 Team Move: Black Dragon - Drops in and transforms into the Black Dragon and viciously bites the boss, dealing a lot of damage to them.
KingdomsofFighters FinntheHuman
Finn

Finn the Human is allied with the Candy Kingdom, being the main leader of the forces alongside Jake and Princess Bubblegum. Although he has lost his right arm, his mechanical arm has plenty of functions that keep him a cut above the competition. Bosses

Bosses are special characters that only appear during Story Mode; while they may look and act similar to playable characters, they have special attributes that make them different from how playable characters play. For instance, during their MAX MODE, they normally only have two special moves to execute. They may also have moves in their standard moveset that may possibly do more damage than the usual Level 1 special.

Enemies
Character Information
MaskKoopaKOF
Mask Koopa (Green)

These creepy Koopas wear masks on their head. The green variant charges straight forward, not being wary of attacks or the things around it. They harm the player on touch. When defeated, the Mask Koopa drops it's mask which can be used as a projectile to use against other enemies.

MaskKoopaRedKOF
Mask Koopa (Red)

Another one of those creepy Koopas that wear a mask on their head. The red variant is more aware of attacks, ducking when it sees a projectile or when other enemies get attacked. They harm the player on touch. When defeated, the Mask Koopa drops it's mask that can be used as a projectile against other enemies.

JethroKOF
Jethro

A rather simple robot that can only progress forward, only able to say it's own name over and over in a endless loop. In larger sizes it can be more threatening but Jethros are incredibly easy to defeat and don't seem to have any way to attack; the player can throw them at other enemies if they grab them.

PowioStatueKOF
Powio Statue

Powio Statues are incredibly tough, only outclassed by Black Oaks in terms of the hits they can take. They can deal damage through the lasers from their eyes and require 8 heavy hits to defeat.

SpearheadKOF
Spearhead

Simple enemies that are stunned by any attack and can be picked up and thrown; however when they get up they immediately charge at the player to attack them with their spear-like appendage. They can be dispatched very easily.

A cold bear that fires off a rather damaging freezing projectile attack. They are stunned instantly by any attack and can be dispatched rather easily. They cannot be carried and used as a projectile, however.

MrMoonKOF
Mr. Moon

Mr. Moon is a enemy with a high pain tolerance, circling around the player and blasting electric projectiles that will hit if the player doesn't move fast enough. They can be defeated with a couple of strong hits. They only appear in stages with a night sky.

MrSunKOF
Mr. Sun

Mr. Sun is similar to Mr. Moon, but shoots fiery projectiles instead of electrical ones. They are dispatched the same way as Mr. Moon. They only appear in stages with a bright day sky.

CrystalAnt
Crystal Ant

Crystal Ants run towards the player with a flail, but they are quite fragile and will immediately be destroyed and shatttered if the player uses a heavy attack against them.

HairApe
Hair Ape

Hair Apes attack by rubbing their hands together; once they do, they have charged up a electrical attack that can be used against their target. They sit completely still.

Sign Zombie
Sign Zombie

Sign Zombies sluggishly move towards the player, and can be knocked away with projectile attacks but are more susceptible to melee attacks.

BrainBeast
Brain Beast

Brain Beasts slither towards the player and attack with their snake arms, inflicting a poison that makes them slower. They can be defeated near instantly if the player attacks the weak spot on their back.

Crystal Guardian
Crystal Guardian

Crystal Guardians emulate the attacks of the player, and can only be defeated by either throwing other enemies at it or attacking with it with projectiles, as melee attacks will only throw the player away from it and hurt them.

GrounderKOFEnemy

BlackOakNibroc

Art by Nibroc-Rock

Black Oaks are the strongest enemies in the game, requiring twelve heavy attacks to vanquish. They will sometimes be armed with a Black Sword for melee attacks.

Tentopath Puppet
Tentopath Puppet

Tentopaths crawl on the ground, becoming vulernable but extremely mobile in this state. Once they lift themselves off the ground, the player can't damage the puppet character without getting ensnared by the tentacles and attacked for a lot of damage (projectiles do nothing) and instead must wait until the creature floats down and starts crawling again, becoming open to attacks.

SpewbleflyVictory
Spewblefly

Spewbleflies release a pink nectar that attracts other enemies. When the player attempts to attack it, it can attack with a stinger, so players should use ranged attacks to take it out.

Marshie

Gel-Arshie
Gel-arshie

A red, Translucent Dessert Related Substance version of the regular Marshie. Gel-arshie floats towards the player and doesn't flinch when projectiles get near it, dealing 0.1x. Melee attacks will demolish them.

Marxie
Marxie

The Xeriouxly Forxe version of the regular Marshie. This version of the Marshie floats towards the player at twice the speed in a dazzling dash that damages the player. Projectiles and melee attacks seriously damage it, but it has the most health out of Marshie variations.

Stages

This isn't Smash, none of the stage have any gimmicks to really expand on. All them are level playing fields that don't distract from the fight; it's just nice to have some good scenery!
