Final Smash Iceberg

The Ice Climbers (アイス クライマー, Ice Climber) return as a playable characters in Super Smash Bros. V as paid DLC. On September 24, 2019, an announcement that took everybody by surprise was made that the next day, September 25, 2019, the Ice Climbers DLC Pack would go live on the eshop for $3.99.

Ice Climbers are confirmed to have no alternate costumes. They are both once again voiced by Sanae Kobayashi

Changes from Brawl

  • <p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:4pt;margin-bottom:6pt;">Like every other veteran, Ice Climbers now appear much more vibrant and their appearance is more based off their appearance in their games with a small realistic touch.
<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:4pt;margin-bottom:6pt;">Attributes
  • <p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:4pt;margin-bottom:6pt;">Overall most of their animations have been slightly altered to fit the style of the game.
<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:4pt;margin-bottom:6pt;">Ground Attacks
  • <p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:4pt;margin-bottom:6pt;">Some leader attack damage have been slightly reduced.
<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:4pt;margin-bottom:6pt;">Aerial Attacks
  • <p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:4pt;margin-bottom:6pt;">Down aerial is no longer a “stall-then-fall”.
<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:4pt;margin-bottom:6pt;">Grabs and Throws
  • <p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:4pt;margin-bottom:6pt;">Chain grabs have been very much nerfed as they’re now extremely much harder to perform as the second Climber does not perform grabs along with the lead Climber.
<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:4pt;margin-bottom:6pt;">Special Moves
  • <p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:4pt;margin-bottom:6pt;">Ice Shot can now be absorbed with absorbing specials much like it could be in Melee.

Special Attacks

Name Damage Description
Neutral Special Ice Shot 9% (hammer), 1-5% (ice) An icicle comes from a small portal, then hit by the Ice Climbers. The icicle melts and loses power over time. The icicle can travel farther than Final Destination.
Alternate 1 Glacier Shot 9% (hammer), 2-6% (ice) The icicle is larger and does a bit more damage but it travels more slowly.
Alternate 2 - - -
Side Special Squall Hammer 2% (hits 1-11) (22% total) The Ice Climbers spin around, hitting opponents with their hammers. It can help regain some horizontal movement in the air, but causes helplessness afterwards. Very difficult to connect all 11 hits.
Alternate 1 Chill Squall Hammer 1% (hits 1-11) (11% total) The spin produces a chilling wind effect that has a windbox for reduced damage.
Alternate 2 - - -
Up Special Belay 16% (hit) The leading Ice Climber throws the following Ice Climber with a rope. The following Ice Climber then pulls the leader upwards. If there is a nearby edge, the following Climber will target it, leading to a safe recovery for both Ice Climbers. If there is only one Climber, the Climber will get a small hop, then fall into helplessness.
Alternate 1 Independent Belay 13% (hit) The throw range with both climbers is slightly decreased for a slightly more ranged individual hop.
Alternate 2 - - -
Down Special Blizzard 1-2% Each Ice Climber blows icy wind , damaging their opponent.
Alternate 1 Freezing Wind 1-2% The Ice Climbers blow a soft chilly wind that may freeze opponents. They always blow in the same direction.
Alternate 2 - - -
Final Smash Iceberg 2% (hit), 5% (frozen) The Ice Climbers summon a huge Iceberg into the middle of the field. Touching the iceberg results in freeze damage, and possibly becoming frozen. Being frozen when pushed off the edge can lead to a fatal death, as the frozen player falls with full speed.

Animations and Misc.

<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:3pt;margin-bottom:1pt;">SIDE - They will point their hammers diagonally upward shout "Yup!", as wind blows behind them (same as in Melee, only with different sound effects).

<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:3pt;margin-bottom:1pt;">UP - They set down their hammers and jump up and down. In the Ice Climber NES game, this is the victory celebration of the Ice Climbers during the results screen (albeit without the flag). They also do the same when they reach the mountain top in SSE.

<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.558636301214041;margin-top:3pt;margin-bottom:1pt;">DOWN - They dance in a circle.
