Hyrule Monsters is an upcoming cross-series game between the Pokemon and Legend of Zelda Franchise. It follows the gameplay of Pokemon with the world of Hyrule filling the plot and features. It has not yet been announced when it will be released but has been announced for both the 3DS and WiiU.

Gameplay

Like most Pokemon games it uses the classic Turn-Based Combat system in which the player and opponent choose an attack for their monsters to use and then based on the speed of the monsters determines the order of the attacks, the damage inflicted is based on the power of the attack, the STAB effect (if applicable), the attack or special attack of the attacking monster and the defence or special defence of the defending monster. Attacks can be grouped into three categories, Physical, Special & Status. Physical & Special attacks are damage dealing attacks that may have secondary effects, Physical attacks generally rely on the user's Attack and the Opponent's Defence stats, Special attacks generally rely on the user's Special Attack and the Opponent's Special Defence stats. The monster's health is determined by its HP stat which varies between monsters and while the stat is often the highest of the six when displayed it's base stat form is similar to the others and instead grows and a higher rate.

Features

Like most Pokemon games, the goal the player has to face is to defeat the 8 region's bosses in the form of Gym Leaders (Town Leaders in Hyrule Monsters) and then face off against the 4 strongest trainers and the Champion of the region.

Aside from this main quest there is also a side quest that concerns the villainous team of the Region (Team Power) and their goals to become the dominant force of the region by means of acquiring a or several Legendary Monster. The player's goal in this quest is to stop their evil deeds and return the land to peace should the monster be released and be wreaking havoc upon the world.

In Hyrule Monsters the player also has access to several sub-games within the main game that generally involve a single monster from their team. These sub-games include; Power Force, Endurance Force & Speed Force.

Map

Like most Pokemon Maps the Hyrule Region is comprised of many Towns and Villages as well as interesting monuments or natural wonders that appear across the region. Unlike most Pokemon Maps however the Region does not contain any routes nor do the areas that connect settlements act as snaking passageways. Instead the Hyrule Region has similar areas to that of the Legend of Zelda Games, with open areas that allow the player to wander and explore the vastness of the region. The areas that the player explores are split into several areas. The map below shows all settlements and provinces.

Trivia

  • All Town Leaders and Elite Four were previously Sages from the Legend of Zelda Franchise
    • Saria, Darunia, Nabooru, Rauru & Ruto from Ocarina of Time
    • Irene, Osfala & Gulley from Link between Worlds
    • Medli, Makar & Laruto from Wind Waker
    • Impa appears in both Ocarina of Time & Link between World as a Sage although the game uses her Link between Worlds Model
  • While the map bears striking similarities to Twilight Princess many locations that do not appear in Twilight Princess appear in this region.
    • Ice Ruins from Link & Thief Hideout between Worlds
    • Kokiri Village, The Great Deku Tree, Lost Woods, Gerudo Fortress, Water Temple, Death Mountain Volcano & Well of Truths from Ocarina of Time
    • Tower of the Godesses from Wind Waker
    • Cobble Kingdom Ruins from Phantom Hourglass
    • Ancient Dungeon (Sky Keep) & Lanayru Mining Facility from Skyward Sword
    • Dead Tree Island (Eagle) & Secret Grove (Manji) from Legend of Zelda
  • Similar to the Kanto region the last Gym Leader, Nabooru like Giovanni was part of the villainous team of their respective regions (albeit Nabooru was being mind controlled), both use Ground Types and their highest levelled Pokemon are both level 55 (only in Yellow for Giovanni).
  • Like other Pokemon games, this game does not include a Dark-Type Gym Leader
  • The fact the Iron Knuckle is seen as the Pseudo-Legendary of the game mirrors the fact that Iron Knuckles are often Mini-Bosses in Zelda Games, the same applies for its pre-evolution the Darknut.
  • Similar to the Pokemon games there are several Hyrule Monsters with split evolutions
    • The Gohma Family has 8 members, 4 of which are final forms
    • The Stalfos Family has 9 members, 5 of which are final forms
    • The Keese Family has 8 members, 4 of which are final forms
  • Interestingly the Base Stat total for the Aeralfos is identical to that of Charizard, they also share the same types, levels at which evolution occurs and same types for their pre-evolutions.
    • Of all starters ever, the Aeralfos gains the least height between its base and final forms only growing by 8 inches in height
      • Although the Lizalfos is the tallest starter ever at 4'04"
  • The game while not canonically part of the Zelda Timeline is identified to take place in either the Child or Adult Timeline as it is explained that after Ganon was defeated by the Hero of Time the being Ganon and Ganondorf became two seperate entities.
  • Eox (Phantom Hourglass) & Great Gyorg (Majora's Mask) are the only Legendaries from their games
  • There is no representative from the Four Swords games or Minish Cap game that doesn't already appear in another Zelda game.
  • Several Monster Families are comprised solely of Bosses or Mini-Bosses
    • Trinexx Family - Heatoise, Grinexx & Trinexx
    • Arrghus Family - Digdogger, Arrghus & Stone Arrghus
    • Patra Family - Vitreous, Wart & Patra
    • Wizzrobe Family - Wizzrobe (Normal, Fire, Ice, Sun & Lunar) - Mini-Bosses only
    • Volvagia Family - Volga, Barba & Volvagia
  • While it may seem odd due to its appearance, the Cucco Rooster has one of the highest Attack stats in the game, this is due to the infamous Cucco Revenge Squad that first appeared in Link to the Past
  • The Chuchu like the Pokemon Meowstic differ significantly between genders, including stats and moves. Male Chuchus learn Grass & Ice Type moves and have higher Special Attack & Special Defence, Female Chuchus learn Fire & Ground Type moves and have higher Attack and Defence.
  • The three members of the Peahat Family in the Legend of Zelda games are actually referred to as the same species although their functions and time they existed in differs
  • Despite being only a two form evolution, Genu's have a third member to their species in Adventure of Link in the form of a Red, Rock Throwing Genu.
    • Interestingly the Blue Genu is actually regarded as the stronger of the two Genu in Adventure of Link even though it is the base form in this game
