Team Sonic Riders

Team Sonic Riders is an upcoming hoverboard racing video game and a spin-off from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. The game is developed by Topaz Central and published by SEGA. It's planned to be given a physical and digital release on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.

The game combines elements from both Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity and Team Sonic Racing, as Shadic thought that the Riders series would've worked well with the team-based mechanic. In the game, players take control of one of twenty-four characters from the cast of the Sonic series and compete in races using Extreme Gear.

Gameplay

Items

There are a total of 16 items, 9 of them being Wisps. Each item plays differently and can help or hinder the user. The items are classified under 4 different rarity classes, which are:

• Common - These items are given out very often, and have a 15% (each item of 4) chance of getting chosen each race.
• Rare - These items are less often than Common items, and have a 6.25% (each item of 4) chance of getting chosen each race.
• Epic - These items are less often than Rare items, and have a 2.5% chance (each item of 4) of getting chosen each race.
• Legendary - These items are the rarest in the game, and have a 1.25% chance (each item of 4) of getting chosen each race.

Item Box	Invincibility		Legendary	Allows the user to become invulnerable to all damage for a short time.
	Rings		Common	Slightly increases the racer's speed with each ring, able to collect up to 100 rings, and can be used to unlock Gear Parts. It can appear on the track and item boxes.
	Snowballs		Epic	Allows the user to throw multiple snowballs and if hit, it temporarily slows them down.
	Glove		Rare	Allows the user to block any projectiles, and if possible, the user can pick it up and use it.
	Parts Lock		Epic	Prevents the user from using GP actions, and surround by bolts that slow down speed, for a limited time.
	Attack		Legendary	Allows the user to run on the course at full speed on foot, and can strike opponents with exclusive attacks for 10 seconds.
	GP Boost		Common	Gives the user an amount of Gravity Points (25, 50, 75 or 100, depending on how much the user has).
	Wisps	White Boost	Rare	Allows the user to gain a huge boost of speed. Up to three wisps can be given, depending on how far the user is from the leader.
		Cyan Laser	Rare	Locks onto an opponent in range and blasts them with a laser after a short time.
		Yellow Drill	Legendary	Transforms the user into a drill and rams through opponents at high speed. The duration of the item depends on how far the user is from the leader.
		Orange Rocket	Common	Fires straight ahead and rebounds off walls, exploding when it hits an opponent.
		Blue Cube	Common	Drops onto the track behind you damaging any opponent who drives into it.
		Crimson Eagle	Epic	Allows the user to throw and home in on the racer in first place and explodes on impact.
		Ivory Lightning	Legendary	Strikes the leading opponent with lightning unless you take damage or they can dodge out of the way in time.
		Black Bomb	Rare	Throws a bomb ahead, which explodes after a short delay or if an opponent hits it.
		Jade Ghost	Epic	Makes you intangible, preventing you from colliding with anything, and steals a Wisp from a nearby opponent.

Characters

Playable

Team Sonic Riders features 24 playable characters, with three per team. In Team Adventure, the player is restricted to the three set characters per team, and begins with only Team Heroes, unlocking the other teams as they progress. In other modes, players are free to mix characters from other teams together. The following is a list of the characters:

Extreme Gear

Team Sonic Riders uses the Extreme Gears in gameplay. Like in the Riders series, the Extreme Gears are high-tech hoverboard vehicles that are used by the characters to ride on, but uses Gravity Points (GP) to as a fuel to perform special actions in this game, and are the central component in the gameplay.

Every playable character has their own unique default Extreme Gear, which only they can use, but additional Extreme Gears can be obtained in the game by either buying them in the shop for Rings, or fulfilling certain requirements, such as completing one or more missions in Mission Mode, or completing a certain story.

The game features six different types of Extreme Gear, which are all returning from the series.

• Board (?): Resembles regular boards. A basic and balanced Gear type that most characters can ride and is suited for general riding.
• Skate (?): Resembles roller skates. This type of Gear tend to lack in power, but is more agile and always allows the user to grind in Grind Areas.
• Bike (?): Resembles motorbikes. This type of Gear is more durable and allows characters to knock away certain objects, but is less maneuverable compared to the other types.
• Air Ride (?): Resembles hovercrafts. This type of Gear allows the user to glide through midair and fly through Dash Rings.
• Yacht (?): Resembles windsurf boards. This type of Gear allows to glide through the air and fly through Dash Rings and as well ride on opponents' slipstreams to increase speed, which somewhat makes up its low top speed.
• Wheel (?): Resembles monowheels. This type allows the user to knock away heavy objects and have the ability to perform Slide Turns, but the dash from Gravity Control is shorter.
