Star Fox Legacy (Japanese: スターフォックスレガシー or Sutā Fokkusu Regashī) is a Star Fox game for the Nintendo Wii that was developed by Nintendo and BioWare and released in Japan, North America, and throughout Europe. The game serves as a prequel to the events of the original Star Fox game and focuses solely on James McCloud's earlier Star Fox team as they investigate and attempt to eliminate potential threats to the Lylat System. The game was given a "T" rating by the ESRB rating system for Violence, Blood, and Suggestive Themes.

Gameplay[]

The game is generally played flying an Arwing, fighting against enemy starfighters. However, a few levels force the Star Fox team to go on ground missions. These ground missions are played as over-the-shoulder 3rd Person Shooters (similar to the Mass Effect and Gears of War franchises). Checkpoints are crucial to the gameplay, as they have the player reload at a certain point in the level instead of starting the mission all over again.

Arwing[]

Arwing sections of a mission usually consist of both "Corridor Mode" and "All-Range Mode". In "Corridor Mode", James and his team's Arwings will automatically be moved in a fixed path towards a set destination. In "All-Range Mode", James and his team are free to fly around the area and engage in combat. In order to fight incoming waves of enemies, the Star Fox team uses key evasive maneuvers, such the "barrel-roll", "looping", and "boosting" to weave through and around the opposition. The Arwing's defenses will consist of shields and armor, with armor being the Arwing's health points. Once the shield is depleted, the Arwing itself begins to take damage. The shield regenerates when James's Arwing does not take damage for a specific amount of time. However, the armor stays damaged until an armor pack is found, resulting in giving the Arwing full armor (or health).

Ground[]

The ground levels will use the same engines as the Mass Effect and Gears of War franchises, an "over-the-shoulder" 3rd Person shooter. Each ground level will have much cover to protect James from any bullets fired from enemy forces. In order to attack from cover, James can lean over the piece of cover and fire, then pop back into safety. The Landmaster also makes an appearance in these missions, allowing James to brute-force his way through enemies.

Plot[]

For more detailed sections about the single player missions, see Star Fox Legacy/Missions.
For more detailed sections about the single player's cinematics, see Star Fox Legacy/Cutscenes.

OldStarFox

The first members of Star Fox, Peppy (left), James (middle), and Pigma (right)

Set multiple years before the events of the first Star Fox game, James McCloud, Peppy Hare, and Pigma Dengar have founded the elite commando-mercenary group named Star Fox. Cornernian Army General Pepper keeps close contact with the team and frequently hires Star Fox for missions.

After Act 2, the plot will diverge into different routes, depending on the difficulty chosen before starting single-player; however, the final mission will always be Venom.

Act 1 - Aquas[]

In Star Fox's first mission, they are hired by Lead Cornerian Scientist Andross to travel to a base located at the surface of Aquas and pick up a shipment consisting of chemicals and technology that is being used for future military research. Once they enter the oceanic planet's atmosphere, the Star Fox team is marked as hostile and is attacked by the base's defensive system. The team grows highly suspicious and realizes that they may have been ambushed. James, Peppy, and Pigma land their Arwings and travel on-foot throughout the base. After surviving numerous firefights with confused guards and Aquasian soliders, the team begins searching the terminals for messages and eventually find that Andross had sent the base an urgent message that read "3 highly trained mercenaries were going to retrieve a package". The team concludes that the base misunderstood the message as a threat and no foul play is suspected. A frantic General Pepper then asks Star Fox to return to Corneria with urgency.

Act 2 - Cornernia City[]

Upon return to Corneria City, the Star Fox team discovers that a large portion of the city was destroyed by a large chemical explosion. General Pepper informs the team that Dr. Andross's dangerous experiments have triggered massive explosions across the Lylat System and that Andross must be arrested. Star Fox, along with a special CDF squad, follows Pepper to the mad scientist's laboratory for a serious confrontation. On arrival, the squad is immediately fired upon by Andross's robot creations, resulting in a large firefight that kills the members of the CDF squad and seriously injures Pepper. James and his team decide to keep pushing into the lab, despite Pepper's pleas to retreat. After intense fighting throughout Andross's large laboratory, the Star Fox team reprimands Andross and brings him to the Cornerian Defense Force Base. James watches an enraged and bandaged Pepper violently attack the restrained doctor in the CDF Base's interrogation room, ending with a bloodied and near-dead Andross on the ground. The stunned CFA soliders ask Pepper what to do with the scientist, to which he replies "Take this failure to Venom!".

Act 3[]

Normal Route - Fichina[]

Roughly a year after the events of Corneria City, the Star Fox team receives a strange distress call from the Cornernian Defense Force base on the cold, snow-swept planet of Fichina. Upon arriving on Fichina, the Star Fox team encounters a massive firefight between Andross's Venomian army and members of the CDF base. James decides to help repel the invaders from the ground, while Peppy and Pigma defend from the skies. (WIP)

Multiplayer[]

It was announced during the early development stages of the game that there would be online multiplayer as well as local multiplayer. Players are able to choose between "Starfighter Combat" or "Ground Combat" in the Multiplayer menu. The multiplayer game modes consist of Free-for-All, Team Firefight, Capture the Flag, and their expert variations.

Starfighter Combat[]

In Starfighter Combat, players will be divided into two of the three factions: the Cornerian Army (Arwing model), the Space Mercenaries (Wolfen model), or the Venomian Army (Venomian model). Once all players are loaded into the map selected, the factions (or faction-unaffiliated players, depending on the game type) will begin to engage in aerial combat with one another.
