Raccoon Mario is one of Mario's Power-Ups that first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3, then returned in a game called New Super Mario Bros. 2, set to be released August 19, 2012 in and North America and July 28, 2012 in Japan. After grabbing the Super Leaf, the power-up allows Mario to fly after reaching top speed and also lets him hit things, like enemies and blocks with his raccoon tail.

A related form of the power-up is the Tanooki Suit. This adds a statue transformation to the already existing powers, which can be handy as a bit of invincibility. In Super Mario 3D Land, new forms of existing enemies are powered-up with Super Leaves, becoming "Tail" versions of themselves.

Description[]

Mario gains a raccoon tail and ears in this form, with the form otherwise not changing much about Mario. In the Super Smash Bros. series, the tail and ears are added for most characters but sometimes exceptions are made in the case of characters already having existing tails or the ears not having a good placement.

Powers and Abilities[]

Mario can fly when reaching top speed as indicated by a P-Meter. He can also wack enemies with his tail and in some games, he gains the ability to descend down slowly and safer.
