Super Mario Underwater is a upcoming 3D Mario series platformer for the Wii released in June 2008. The game will use a similar type of gameplay used by Super Mario Galaxy, yet will introduce a brand new gameplay, Mario costumes, and new characters. The taglines for the game are "He traveled from outer space and now he's back down on Earth for a wet adventure" and "See Mario Swim!". It was featured in F3.
The sequel, Super Mario Underwater 2, will be available in Fall 2010.
Story[]
The story takes place five years after Mario's space venture in Galaxy as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad all head out on an cruise ship down the Atlantis Sea where Mario discovers a bottle, where a lost message is found hidden inside, so he is about to open it until their ship gets attacked by sea pirates led by Captain Bootleg. Bootleg and his fowl minions kidnapped the princess as well as the bottle.
Mario opens the message to discover it is a treasure map and realize they kidnapped the princess for the map, so Mario tries to save her until Bootleg's ship is a submarine. Now Mario must go where has never gone before... underwater to find Peach as well as the lost treasure and stop those meancing pirates.
Gameplay[]
Like previous sequals of Super Mario franchise, the game introduces the gamer to an underwater setting, very similar to the space setting in Galaxy where the different worlds (or levels) are being transported by via mystical whirlpools. Famous other mechanics such as the classic tube pipe will also be featured. Another new feature--the main feature of the game--is that Mario is equipped with special flippers that gives him the ability to swim underwater and breathe normally unlike other Mario games where he loses his breath underwater and dies. Using the WiiMote, Mario can do alot of special tricks while swimming and collecting starfishes as it boost up his skills underwater as well as unlocking Mario costumes.
Mario will be able to transform in several new underwater-theme costumes such as an octopuss, shark, seahorse, and a manta ray includidng a pirate.

- There are new bosses as well as apperances of old bosses such as Pirahna Plant.
Notes[]
- There will be no apperance of either Bowser or Bowser Jr., but Bowser will be metioned and will be featured in Super Mario Underwater 2.
