Red Coins are a type of coin in the Mario franchise. They are typically collected for a prize, have a higher monetary value than the standard coin, or both.

In the Yoshi franchise, there are 20 Red Coins per course, some of which are disguised as yellow coins with a subtle red tint. Collecting them all is part of a level's completion requirements.

In sandbox-style 3D Super Mario games, there are eight Red Coins scattered around all or part of a course. When all of them are collected, a Power Star or Shine Sprite appears, sometimes indicated by a Star Marker. The later-introduced Silver Stars function similarly.

In 2D and other 3D Super Mario games, eight Red Coins (five in Super Mario 3D Land) appear temporarily when the player character passes through a Red Ring. If all are collected within the time limit, a progressive power-up or 1-Up Mushroom appears.

Appearances[]

Super Mario Moose[]

Red Coins appear in Super Mario Moose when a Red Coin Ring is touched. Collecting all 8 coins will reward the player with either a power-up or a 1-Up Mushroom.

Super Mario Moose Deluxe[]

Red Coins appear again in Super Mario Moose Deluxe, acting the same as in the previous game.

Mario Kart: V² Circuit[]

Red Coins appear in Mario Kart: V² Circuit as an item and a collectible on the track. When collected, they give the player 5 coins and can be used to get to a 10 coin boost or be used to fire out of the Coin Coffer item.
