Kingdom is an upcoming game online hero-based third person action game in development by LostSynth Studios and Nintendo. There is little information concerning the game but a spokesman for LostSynth Studios confirmed that "the game focuses on selecting a particular hero to join a squad of six members to fight other squads in online matches." After it's announcement, some critics have suggested that Nintendo is trying to cash in on the Overwatch craze. Overwatch is an online first person hero-based shooter developed by Blizzard for the Playstation 4, X-Box One, and computer. LostSynth Studios couldn't be reached for a comment. The game is currently under development along with the game Ninten-ZOO and potential similarities in the Kingdom logo suggests they make be connected in some form. LostSynth Studios has promised to release more information as it comes.

On September 27, 2016, LostSynth Studios and Nintendo jointly released a 35 minute long "Exploring Kingdom Direct which contained information about game play, plot and world information, and the Beasties that players can play as.

Gameplay[]

Players in Kingdom will find themselves participating in epic battles within this mysterious land. Now that we know a little about where Kingdom will be set, how will battles be played? This is the core of the game and what drives the stories narrative. Players will participate in a two-team battle with four players to a team. There will be 8 players total in one given match. Defeating the team will help increase the alliance as well as your own player's allegiance which advances the storyline further down the road. Kingdom is a constantly evolving narrative and the story's progression will be heavily influenced by how well players play the game. What comes next is a blank slate and it's up to you guys to write the outcome.

The Nintendo Network will allow for online capabilities.

While we can't go into what modes and battles there are, I can give a little insight in what to expect. Kingdom will be a first for Nintendo in that it will constantly require a wireless connection in order to play. While some of you may be disappointed to hear this, it is very important to have this online connection in order to drive the game forward. Traditionally, there is the Conquest Mode which will heavily factor into the final outcome and where allegiance points count. There will also smaller game modes that focus on different aspects such as a Battle Royal where all players fight against each other as well as a more light-heated Free Battle Mode which will not contribute to the games progression and serves as a training mode/practice mode. Still, you will be competing against opponents.

The game can be played both in first person and third person form though there won't be an advantage to choosing one over the other. You can change it quite quickly; even in the heat of battle. However, some of the more melee-oriented fighters would benefit from having a third-person view while shooters may benefit more from a first-person view. Ultimately, it will depends on your own preference.

As I mentioned, characters may be more melee-inclined while others will be more shooter-inclined. What does this mean? Well, to start, every Beastie will wield a weapon of some sort such as a sword, a gun, or even something else entirely. There is also a secondary attack option, too.

Basic Attacks, Beast Skills, and Beast Breakers[]

A Beast Breaker is a type of ultimate attack that, in order to release, must have its gauge filled up which can be done attacking and executing Beast Skills and gaining points in battle.

Warriorsymbol
Warriors are the main damage dealers, the physical wall of pain, those who shrug off damage and continue fighting. These Beasties focus on dealing as much damage as possible with little regard to themselves. They are best leading aggressive assaults against fortifications or waiting until the best opportunity to strike. They come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, types, and backgrounds. In addition in dealing physical damage, some of these classes will do elemental damage and, in this case, Fire and Lightning represents the Warriors though this is not always the case. The Warrior Class is depicted with a sword and it's color is red. Warriors, within the world of Kingdom typically aim to find the riches of Kingdom to bring glory to either themselves or their allegiances and will stop at nothing of these pursuits.

The second class represented are the Defenders and play a pivotal supporting role ind defending key areas, setting up choke points, and defending against invading enemies. These Beasties are important in maintaining key areas and defending them tooth and talon. Without the Defenders, important and key strategy points are left to the enemy and this can prove to be the main cause of defeat. Those who decide to play as a Defender needs to forgo the glory of wading into bad and be content setting up key defensive positions and crowding groups of enemies together so the Warriors can take them out. Defenders are typically represented by Ice and Earth. It is depicted by a shield and its color is yellow. Within the world of Kingdom, Defenders tend to search of the riches of Kingdom to bring honor and glory not to themselves but to their allegiances and those that serve them. They tend to take a more modest and dutiful role as opposed to Warriors.

The third class featured are the Tankers and they are the primarily damage dealers as well as absorbers. They focus on dishing out just as much damage as they can take and prove to be extremely valuable in intense fire fights. Tankers have high defense and health stats and, with the right modifiers and traits, prove to literally be moving fortresses with artillery to back them up. Tankers tend to be seen as a mixture between the first two classes plus a little bad ass'ery throw into it. Be warned though players that Tankers may have high damage output but they lack the speed and jumping ability as some of the lighter classes. Plan accordingly before taking a Tanker out into the battlefield. Tankers typically associate with Fire and Ice. They are depicted with a fortress and their color is blue. With the world of Kingdom, Tankers tend to fight for their own glory then the glory of others; even if it means their allegiances and tend to seek attention by proving their strength in the fires of war.

The fourth class within Kingdom are Speedsters and they can be some of the most successful (and annoying) of all the classes. Speedsters are hit-and-runners who focus on launching rapid attacks in a small amount of time and then getting the hell out of the fire. They boast impressive movement and attack speed, high jumping and evading abilities, and skills that tend to lean towards areas of espionage and infiltration. However, they crumple under intense fire and almost, if not always, loses to a Tanker. They have the lowest health and defense of any class and won't be winning at power contests either. Still, they are invaluable for weakening defenses and knocking out players separated from their teams. Speedster also include aerial units which we will see further down the road. Speedsters are typically associated with Wind and Lightning. They are depicted by a lightning bolt and their color is green. Speedsters within Kingdom generally are looking for fame, for glory, or have an ulterior motive. They are not as boastful as the Tankers or modest as the Defenders but they can be cocky at most times.

Finally, the fifth class are the always important Supporters. As the man suggests, they help out the front lines with much needed medic and stat support and can even weaken the opponents by lowering their stats. Warriors and Tankers form the main offensive line while Speedster sand Defenders from the defensive line. Supporters back all them up with their life-saving skills and modifiers. Still, a person playing a Supporter needs to know that they will not be seeing the same combat as others do and may find themselves overlooked (or maybe way to underappreciated) in comparison. Supporters are always almost a plus within a team and those who specialize in these characters will be sought out after. Supporters are often associated with Water and Earth. They are depicted by a cross and their color is purple. Supporters within Kingdom often fight solely for their allegiances or their teammates and its rare to find a Supporter purely fighting for him or herself.

Game Modes[]

Players can participate in a number of Game Modes that range in a wide variety of rules and mechanics. While there will be more revealed later, here are some that we can confirm today:

Conquest can be seen as the bread-and-butter of the game with a wide amount of the games progress devoted into this game mode. How well players do and how well they advance themselves within the game will affect the overall outcome of the stories narrative. This mode will decide who gets to claim Kingdom as their own! Battles take places between teams of four against another team. In addition, there will be different types of matches that will have a certain objective to complete to win. Some examples includes a traditional team vs team battle as well as zone control matches.

Scenario Mode pits two four player teams against each other to complete a particular objective. However, each member has to pull his or her own weight or the scenario cannot be completed. Some scenarios include protecting treasure from the enemy, sky diving battles, and collecting the opponents honey.

As the name suggests, its a battle royale with no teams with up to 12 players in one battle. This mode does not contribute to the games progressive narrative but will double the amount of points and gear given up at the end of each match. Matches can be either time, stock, or health depletion based.

This unique game mode features undead creatures known as "Carrion" who will sporadically pop up in Conquest and Battle Royale in something known as "Carrion Skimish". Well, in Hunt Mode, it's two teams of four against the whole might of the Carrion. The winner who destroys the most and strongest Carrion wins the match!


Plot[]

Kingdom is set in the super-continent known as Avalon. This super-continent spans the entire globe so it's quite a large area understandably with a wide range of creatures and cultures residing within. You will find numerous kingdoms, fiefdoms, federation, empires, city-states, and more within. However, laying in the center of the continent is the mysterious land known as Kingdom. Quite fitting, isn't?

As the story goes, the land known as Kingdom is open once every 500 years and may stay open for only a few years to whole centuries. While the world rushes by and civilizations rise and fall; Kingdom stands still in time until it magically reopens. Within Kingdom is said to have vast amounts of treasure, riches, and power and whoever lays claim to it will establish themselves as the main power of the continent.

Historically, the Kingdom has only been claimed five times in the past millennium and these civilizations that once conquered it have fallen into dust due to infighting, wars, and sabotage. The last time Kingdom opened, it caused an all-out war between the people resulting in a global catastrophe of which none now remember of it. What is remembered is due to being written in scrolls that survived the tragic turn of events. What was described in these scrolls was a rain of fire erupting in the sky and scorching the land underneath. Since then, Kingdom never opened in what would be the longest time it would be remained closed; for over 8,000 years. But that was until now, though. With Kingdom open after such a long time, we are sure to see some dramatic battles unfolding.

With Kingdom being set on a massive super continent, there sure has to be different cultures and races explored within this world, right? Well, yes and no. Not in the sense of what we are used to. We cannot comment if this is indeed a past or future Earth but you will come into contact with many animals that we currently recognize such as tigers and elephants. Actually, coming into contact with them is putting it lightly. You will be jumping into their shoes...hmmm...hooves...claws...talons...you get the picture.

The world of Kingdom is composed of anthropomorphic creatures commonly known as "Beasties". They inhabit a large variety of environments and have created mass cities where they govern their own kingdoms and empires. Some of them are rather antagonistic and aggressively expansive such as Aslandia Empire while others, such as as, is a company dedicated to expanding research to better the lives of others. Each one has their own reasons for wanting to enter into Kingdom and take the riches for themselves.

Kingdom Arenas[]

Players will participate in battles in places called Arenas. A of right now, we can confirm of four locations which house arenas. Each location will have (as of right now) four arenas that correspond to the four game modes. The areans are all located in the land of Kingdom and, due to the magic placed on the land, remains relatively unchanged due to the slow flow of time. Today, we will be looking at one arena from each location.

A large expand of largely uninhabited mega-forest with a few now-derelict settlements and haunted woods.

'The center of the arena is comprised of a few abandoned buildings within fencing with a circular open area with few trees. The northern section is at a higher elevation with various ruins, a run-down inn, and a staircase. There is also a waterfall, a run-down logging mill, and an area open with fallen trees. The bottom half is a valley comprised of a running river, several broken pillars, and two stone fortresses. One near the bottom is at a higher elevation than the rest of the map while the second is nestled against the upward slope and provide a gangway to the higher elevation. There are three levels in this arena with the second level containing the nine box maze in the top right and the quick sand with bridges and the sandstone blocks in the far left. The third story. 'The map is split between a large body of water and a moving current which increases players speed when they move according to it. The top section is composed to beach caverns and tunnels. The top left has an arch that hangs over the ocean leading to an island. There are tunnels inside of these beach hills. Various palm trees also dot the landscape in clumps with beach grass around them. The southern portion has several slightly elevated beach islands with the most southern being one composed of several tunnels like the top portion.

Prince Leopold hails from the Aslandia Empire and is the third prince within the royal line. His older-brother is the crowned prince and will succeed his father upon his death. Prince Leopold is a product of the highly aggressive and expansion is Aslandia Empire who holds Aslandian superiority beliefs which has brought it into conflicts with other rulers and kingdoms. In fact, the Aslandia Empire holds several tribute kingdoms under themselves which makes up the Aslandia Imperium. Prince Leopold, angered over being cast as the third son, seeks riches and glory within Kingdom and hopes to bring the treasure and power to his home in order to elevate his own standing within his father's eyes. Despite this ulterior motive, he is dedicated to his Empire and would gladly die for it if given the chance. Maybe this is what he actually seeks.

Prince Leopold utilizes his great sword, Lionsbane to deal heavy damage with strong and determined attacks. While he possesses impressive damage and armor stats, he lacks in speed, jump, and range. He is mostly limited to attack what is around him and trying to bypass damage to get to his opponents. He does have a few options which better his range but he is strictly an up-front damage dealer. He is a worst enemy and best target for opponents who prefer range.

Queen Bee is the empress of the mysterious Hive Empire. Governing the Hive through the Hiveship, they appear to be searching for something with some believing a place to call home. None remember where they came from or when they did but their invasion of the Avalon has caused great political upheaval as governments attempt to handle the threat plaguing their borders. The Hive Empire's aggressive expansive agenda has threatened the sovereignty of the other countries leading to open hostilities with all but a few nations. Now, Queen Bee and her Hive appear to staking a claim in Kingdom with even the Queen herself making her grand entrance. Queen Bee lacks the power output of the Tankers and Warriors but boasts some impressive armor and range stats. Her abilities allow her to create defensive barriers to hold off the enemy. She boasts great zone control abilities and can easily influence the area to her purposes by trapping opponents and picking them off one by one. She can create defensive perimeters that, while not exactly a support function, serves to corral the enemies together and allow for her team mates to destroy them. .

Beeswarm basicattack Bee Swarm Queen Bee summons her drones to aid in her attacks or defense. They are solid enough and slow enough that they can be used as defensive purposes though they will die in they sustain to much damage. The attack functions much like a flame thrower in that holding down the trigger button increases the size of the bee swarm. However, it also causes the bee drones to be slower as a result. The attack can be upgraded to allow Queen Bee to squeeze off a single drone which flies in a straight line with extended range. This is done by clicking tapping the trigger button. 0
Honeybomb secondaryattack Honey Bomb Queen Bee flings a pot full of honey which, upon contact, explodes in a gooey mess which doesn't do damage but severely decreases movement speed. Anyone caught in the epicenter will be stuck to the ground for 5-10 seconds while anyone on the outer portion of the explosion will have a decrease in movement speed; depending how far they were to the explosion. It can also be upgraded to allow Queen Bee to set a grenade on the ground by holding the secondary trigger attack which plants the bomb onto the ground and serves as a pseudo-proximity mine. It will detonate after 20 seconds of being set down. It will explode if another Honey Bomb is used as a bomb or mine. 10

Beefrenzy beastskills Bee Frenzy Queen Bee releases a slow rotating ball of drones that produce a vacuum effect and has a weak homing feature. Once it comes into contact with an opponent, it increases the vacuum effect and pulls the opponent into the center. It will continue to move, pulling the opponent along with it as it steadily damages the opponent. It lasts approximately 15-20 seconds before vanishing. It will vanish in 10 seconds if it doesn't damage anyone. 10
Hivesentry beastbreaker Hive Sentry Place a Hive Sentry at key defensive points and watch the enemies scatter! These sentries will issue out powerful solider bees that will repeatedly sting anyone who comes near the sentry. The sentry doesn7t have a time limit but placing more than two of them within an arena can cause the oldest one to explode. At first, the sentry doesn't have much health but the longer a sentry stays in the area, the stronger it will be. Though several hits will easily cause it to crumple. 15
Honeycomb beastskill Honeycomb Queen Bee creates a wall made out of honeycombs teleported in from the Hiveship. This is done by activating the Honeycomb Beast Skill and then moving to a new location and pressing the Honeycomb Beast Skill button again. This will set up the wall. One wall can be set up at one time. Setting up a new one when an old one is present causes the old one to disintegrate. The wall can be quite long and can easily cut off opponents in a corridor but once it reaches the max length, it will automatically set itself up. The wall itself has high health but will crumble when damaged too much. 20

The Beast Breaker actually has two phases: first setting up an area to bombard and second, calling in the strike. Once it it's set up, a bright yellow circle will appear around the area and about 8 seconds later, the bombardment will begin. Anubis banner

Anubis is the ruler of Sacarma Empire…or was many centuries ago. The Sacarma Empire at one point held a portion of Kingdom but eventually fell into disarray and civil wars broke out leading to the destruction of its kingdom. The leaders, fearing death, entombed themselves with advanced magic and fell into a deep sleep. Anubis is a powerful magical sorcerer who uses his affinity for the earth and, particulary, sand in order to carve great trenches through the enemies forces. He boasts impressive range with his ability to use his sand in a myriad of ways such as creating traps, blocking access to enemies, and bolstering his team mates defensive capabilities. Unlike other Defenders, he possesses great offensive capabilities that can perfectly do well for him while on his own or with his team mates. He can create fortifications from sand and box his enemies in and them squash them like bugs.

For a Tanker, he has moderate speed allowing him to move about the arena without much difficulty. He also boasts very good close-combat range due to his ice glaive. Commanding an impressive arsenal of fleets, Scarfin searches for sunken treasure and blasted scrapheaps in order to bolster his fleet. Scarfin is a powerful attacker with plenty of options in bringing the hurt to his enemies. He has a wide variety of attacks within his arsenal though he is best as a heavy hulking bersker that brings the battle to himself. Unlike General Tuskerr whose abilities center around created a fortified position and backing up his allies, Scafrfin's usefulness centers around entering into the battlefield and bringing the fighting to himself. He can take a lot of damage and has surprising speed and range for a character for his size.

Usagi Bolt is a quick character who focuses on movement speed to get around opponents and out flank fortifications. He possesses a very quick rate of fire that allows him to lay down fire that doesn't do much damage but, over time, can be very damaging. Usagi Bolt is one of the faster characters and players who take full advantage of his quickness benefit greatly. In addition, he also has great jumping abilities and can quickly cover long distances during his jumps.

Amelia is an ace pilot hailing from High Roost whose parents participated and died in war against the Hive. Amelia strived to do everything to her very best, due in part because of living under her parent's shadow. Amelia quickly rose through the ranks of High Roost's Military Academy and proved herdelf capable in the line of duty. However, due to losing her parents in the war, she has born a grudge against the Hive and anything affiliated it. Amelia is a heavy hitting yet fast character who soars on the wings of an eagle. While her walking speed is slower than what a Speedster would be, she excels at aerial battles and has very high jumping capabilities. She also has good ranged abilities and many of her attacks have a punishing quality to them. Her best strength in attacking in the air and has tons of tools to make her a hard to hit target. She has very weak armor though and whithers under a brutal assault. She is best with hit and wrong attacks while taking full advantage of her jumping and range abilities. She also has some of the lowest cooldown times of the characters.

Nocturnis banner

Nocturnis is the Cryptkeeper who holds the souls of the dead and records them within the Vaults, a massive mausoleom which houses the spirits of the dead. He is a mysterious individual who keeps his intentions hidden from even his closest allies - if he has any. However, despite his ghastly appearance, he has a respectful and high-ranking position within Crepuscurio has the Cryptkeeper, recorder of the dead, and the head of The Church for the Damned. Besides recording the now-dead souls within the Vaults, he is also in charge of performing a ritual which takes dead souls from the Vaults and aids them to Lifestem, an endless yet still growing supernatural spiral that coils aorund the world. From this steam the dead souls travel until its time for thier rebirth. It is unknown why he is seeking to control Kingdom but his end goal might not be the riches found within but, rather, the Tainted which guard the riches.Perhaps he fews the need to send them too into the Vaults.

Nocturnis is a support character who uses his abilities to damage opponents and transfer that energy into his allies which heals them of damage. He is also capable of slight nerf and buff abilities to aid his allies during the battle. He doesn't boast any sort of strong attack or defense abilities but his speed and jump capabilities help him in initiating his abilities and escpaing from damage.

C-1 isn’t a damage dealer by any sense of the word and focuses his skills on the art of espionage and infiltration. Utilizing thse skills, he can remain undetected and can render is allies undetectable. He doesn’t possess any sort of offensive skills or healing abilities but he is capable of augmenting his team to give them the edge in combat .

Development[]

Development for Kingdom came about as LostSynth Productions was originally creating a new Mii-oriented game called Mii Wars where players control their Mii's and outfits them with weaponry and armor. Then, they can take them online and battle it out in various zones. The idea wasn't scrapped but shelved for the time being as resources and time were dedicated to a more promising prospect Kingdom. The game is confirmed to come out on the Nintendo Wii U but a subscription for $17.99 can be purchased to allow it being played on both the Nintendo 3DS as well as the upcoming Nintendo NX. Players can have individual accounts on all 3 systems or swap characters between the two. In addition, it will be made available on both the New Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo NX physically and digitally. The game will also support cross-compatable play allowing players to compete against each other on a wide variety of systems.
