Super Mario Legend will be a new Mario series video game for Nintendo Wii U and Switch which serves as a total continuity reboot of the Mario universe to be developed for Wii U and Switch. It will feature similar gameplay to that of previous 3-D Mario titles such as Super Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2, 3D World, and Odyssey. In spite of it, the game will rework the story from the first major Mario platformers to include Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad and Yoshi as playable characters, four-player gameplay with Drop-In/Drop-Out Co-Op, and a revamped world system.

Story[]

In a complete and total continuity reboot of the Mario series, the twin brothers Mario known as Mario Segale Mario Jr. and Luigi Segale Mario have just graduated from the New York Plumbers' Academy and have just gotten their first job from Mayor Ed Koch of New York City (circa 1983) to help clear out an infestation clogging up Manhattan Island's sewer system leading out to the Hudson River. What they find is the creatures are coming out from a green warp pipe through which they fight the creatures back across time and space to the Mushroom Planet located in the Draco constellation orbiting in the habitable zone around star HD 193664 (a yellow dwarf sun known as Rosetta). Cornered by the creatures, they are rescued by a race of mushroom-like humanoids called Toads, a sapient species of dinosaurs called Yoshis and one human woman.

The human woman recognizes Mario and Luigi by their clothes and welcomes them home - upon the woman's words Mario realizes they have been reunited with Princess Peach Toadstool of the Mushroom Kingdom. The last time the three saw each other, they were all still in diapers and riding in strollers with their parents (circa early-mid 1960s). Mario and Luigi's parents Video "Jumpman" Mario Sr. and Pauline Mia Rigassi Mario took the then toddler brothers back to Earth to raise in New York to give them a normal life away from the attacks of the Koopa Kingdom. Now that the brothers are of age, they are ready to rejoin their birth planet in the fight against evil. Even as Peach and her attendant Captain Toad and their ally Yoshi help the brothers set up shop and rebuild their lives in the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario and Luigi need help with a mystery of their own.

Ever since the night of their graduation and founding of the Mario Bros. Plumbing Company, their mother Pauline has been reported missing and Mario wonders if there is a connection between the Koopas' reemergence and Pauline going missing. Peach takes the brothers to her castle in the center of Toad Town along the Kolorado River. In the gardens of the Castle, Peach demonstrates how to use the Power-Ups that can be found in the floating Brick Blocks and ? Blocks that are also laced with all sorts of things such as gold/silver/bronze coins, Power-Ups and Beanstalks to climb up higher. The most common are 1-Up and Super Mushrooms which allow for an extra life and to break blocks, fruits which grant Yoshi powers, cape feathers which grant flight capes, Fire and Ice flowers, as well as power suits like the Hammer, Frog and Tanooki.

That is just for the main Power-Ups that can be found in the Mushroom Kingdom and there are many more out there waiting to be discovered. Circa 1985, word gets out that the Koopa Kingdom is launching an attack on the realms of the Mushroom Planet which sees Peach's parents King George and Queen Melody taken prisoner along with Pauline and many others to deter anyone from recovering the Power Stars which King Bowser Koopa and his children the Koopalings have stolen. Without the Power Stars, connection between the various realms of the Mushroom Planet is lost and the planet will start to die. The mission is to free the armies of Bowser from his and Kamek's evil brainwashing and unite the realms against Bowser to drive him back into the Dark Land from whence he came. Now, the quest of a lifetime begins again.

Traveling through eight worlds in the main game story and thirteen more in the post-game story; Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad and Yoshi seek to recover the Power Stars and free the citizens of the Mushroom Planet from the tyranny of King Bowser Koopa and his network of monster bosses. From the grasslands of Fescue Ferns and deserts of Shifty Sands to the glaciers of Immotile Icebergs and the Rocky Rugged mountains; from the oceans of Bubbly Beaches and clouds of Nimbus Nine to the volcanoes of Pahoehoe Pyroclastic and the theme park of King Bowser Land, our heroes lead the charge. Bowser and his enemies will be on the prowl to stop your progress in helping our heroes, however, so best stay sharp! Should you manage to complete the game and save the kingdoms, the rewards for your heroism will be beyond your dreams.

Gameplay[]

Worlds[]

Main Game Story[]

World 1 - Fescue Ferns (Grasslands and Underground Tunnels)[]

For those of you who are new to the Mario experience, the plains and foothills of the temperate to subtropical Fescue Ferns are a good place to start practicing and honing your platforming, shooter and swordsmanship skills. Most of the enemies you will find here are Goombas, Koopa Troopas, Wigglers, Piranha Plants and Cheep Cheeps who can be defeated or stunned rather easily; but there are fiercer ones such as Shyguys, Bob-Ombs and Ninji who might take more time. Start from Princess Peach's Castle and work your way through Toad Town to the open country until you reach Larry "Cheatsy" Koopa and his minion Boom Boom's castle to rescue Peach's mother Queen Melody. Clear out the evil from this world, and Kalimari Express will take you to the Kalimari Desert and the Shifty Sands Kingdom.

World 2 - Shifty Sands (Deserts, Pyramids and Western Towns)[]

Saddle up, amigos. We be enterin' outlaw country from here on in. Situated amongst the Kalimari Desert is the Shifty Sands Kingdom. Your usual Goombas and Koopa Troopas are now joined by Pokeys and Dry Bones who live to guard the high and dry dunes and underground caves of gold mines here. Princess Daisy Sarasa of Sarasaland had checked into the grand saloon hotel in town to check out an archaeological discovery at the Prickly Pyramid of Parametrius when she disappeared there. Should you choose to cross the desert on your return with her, enemies will charge at you from all over the dunes. Take down Roy "Bully" Koopa Jr. and King Totomesu in the Pyramid, escape through the mines, hop on the Kalimari Express train back, and you'll make it back to town in one piece!

World 3 - Immotile Icebergs (Snowscapes and Icebergs)[]

Either it's getting close to Christmas time or the air temperature's dropping! If you're feeling more snow falling on you than Hoth, you've entered the Immotile Icebergs Kingdom. Once under the leadership of the wise and kindly Penguru, he and his penguins are enslaved into building an ice palace for Lemmy "Hip" Koopa and his associate the cold and cruel Baron Brrr. Every enemy you've faced before is now joined by Li'l Brrs/Ice Bubbles and Spinning Snowmen who will throw snowballs at or try to freeze you in your tracks. With the Ice Flower and the Penguin Suit, you can reach areas you might not normally be able to without them. Work your way through the Penguin, Snowman and Shiverian villages to the Cristallo Ice Palace of Lemmy and Brrr to defeat them and rescue Penguru from their slippery clutches.

World 4 - Rocky Rugged (Canyons and Mountains)[]

Nobody blames you if you're getting some vertigo and or feeling lightheaded, because we are about to climb through the canyons and mountains of the Rocky Rugged Kingdom. Your enemies here have got to be pretty tough, able to fly or climb up and down near vertical surfaces to survive around here. Now your previous enemies are getting armored or growing P-Wings like Paragoombas, Koopa Paratroopas, Buzzy Beetles and Para-Beetles, Chargin' Chucks, the Hammer Brothers; Spinies, Monty Moles, Wigglers, and Brolders. Use the terrain to your advantage to flip them and find their weak spots. Once you've worked your way through to the castle, take what lessons you've learned and apply them in defeating Wendy O. "Kootie Pie" Koopa and Boss Brolder to rescue Yoshi's friend Birdo and head on.

World 5 - Bubbly Beaches (Oceans and Beaches)[]

After a crazy trip through the Rocky Rugged Kingdom, you'd probably be up for some sun, sea, sand and surf. You'll find all four of those things in the Bubbly Beaches Kingdom. But be careful when breaking out your bikinis, swim briefs and snorkeling gear - as Morton "Big Mouth" Koopa Jr. and his minion Gooper Blooper have taken the Pianta Mayor in charge of the local seaside village to their half-floating/half-submerged Sinister Sand Castle of Samiya - once a refuge of the ancient water Pokémon known as Manaphy. Gooper has got his army of Bloopers joining the Cheep-Cheeps, Cheep Chomps, Maw-Rays, Urchins and Porcupuffers under the seas. Rescue the Pianta Mayor, Piantas, Nokis, Dolphins, Dorries and Lochladies from Morton and Gooper and you can surf the beaches free again!

World 6 - Nimbus Nine (Clouds and Storms)[]

Whatever will they think of next?! An entire kingdom in the clouds, and plenty of chances to go flying with either a Cape Feather, P-Wings, a Raccoon Leaf or Tanooki Leaf. Imagine that! But your flying enemies are on the loose again as Pidgits, Lakitus, Albatosses, Swoops and Pokios join the rogues gallery of enemies you have to deprogram to help you. Iggy "Hop" Koopa and his associate Wingo have taken King and Queen Nimbus hostage within their own Casa De La Cumulus and have grounded the primary defense fleets of fighter planes. Your goal is to liberate as much of the kingdom so they can fix up the air defense fleet to lend you a hand in storming the castle. Once your missions here are over, you will then be free to move about the kingdom and explore more to your heart's content.

World 7 - Pahoehoe Pyroclastic (Volcanoes and Lava)[]

If you're getting hot under the clothes you're wearing and not just because of all the lava around us, then you are aware that we are entering the Pahoehoe Pyroclastic Kingdom. Hope you have some spare Fire and Ice Flowers on you because you're gonna need them! Your Fire Bros. are joined by Podoboo Lava Bubbles, Splorches, Fire Snakes, fire-breathing Piranha Plants and Charvaarghs along with the usual volcanic debris and Lava Geysers that spout up every now and then. Kami Kamehameha, chieftain of the Torchy Tiki Tribe, is slated to be sacrificed to the tribes' own volcano by Ludwig "Kooky" von Koopa and his minion Fiery Dino Piranha! Fight your way to the Calamitous Caldera Castle to fight Bowser's forces and rescue Kamehameha - and the Tikis' gods will smile on you and your valiance.

World 8 - King Bowser Land (Theme Park)[]

To all who come to this creepy place, am-scray! You have entered the egotistical and OSHA-violating theme park built in tribute to the demented King Bowser Koopa of the Koopa Kingdom. With him and his son Prince Bowser Junior holding King George Toadstool in their Rickety Rollercoaster Castle, our heroes need to be on their guard. Bowser has saved some of his worst and toughest minions for last - Thwomps, Magikoopas, Tox Boxes, Firebars, Chain Chomps, Rocky Wrenches, Monty Moles, Amps, Bullet Bills, Banzai Bills and Torpedo Teds are now part of his army and are staffing every attraction, ride, stall and sideshow out to stop you. Wreck as many levels as you can to ride the roller coaster that will bring down Bowser and his son, rescue the kind, and your adventure's first half is complete.

From rivers of soda pop to cake terrain, this place is too good not to take a bite out of.
