Porcupuffers (also spelled Porcu-Puffers) are a species of Cheep-Cheep that resemble large, purple pufferfish. They first appear in Super Mario World, where they are found in levels that Mario must hop across platforms above water. They follow Mario on the water's surface, swimming slowly. Porcupuffers ate immune to most attacks, including spin jumps and Fireballs from Fire Mario, but can be defeated with Invincible Mario and a spin from Cape Mario. If it is defeated, the Porcupuffer will eventually return.
Porcupuffers later appear in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and subsequent games, where they act a little differently from their Dinosaur Land counterparts. They now have similar behavior to the Boss Bass in Super Mario Bros. 3 and Spike Bass from New Super Mario Bros., where they swim back and forth across the water and jump out in an attempt to hit Mario. Though they can now be defeated by Fireballs, they will still come back. It is also noteworthy that ice balls from Ice Mario or Penguin Mario have close to no effect on them, as Porcupuffers will break through the ice almost immediately.

The Porcupuffer reappears in New Super Mario Bros. Omega. Here, they act the same as in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
Super Puffer World[]
Porcupuffers return in SMWWii as enemy course enemies in World 4.
Ultra Puffer World[]
They appear in Ultra Mario World and not only do they act the same as in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but look the same as well.
Lets-a-go, Mario[]
Despite Boss Bass and Spike Bass being the same game, Porcupuffers appear in Lets-a-go, Mario. They act like they did in Super Mario World, instead of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, meaning that they cannot jump, possibly to stop them from being the same as Spike Bass.
