---|---|---|---|
Mario | Arcade Donkey Kong | The main hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. He frequently makes use of power-ups; such as Super Mushrooms and Fire Flowers, on his many adventures. Mario has appeared in more than 200 games, and has become Nintendo's flagship character. Aside from adventuring, he has also participated in sports and racing competitions. | |
Dr. Mario | NES Dr. Mario | Mario as a doctor. Dr. Mario's job consists of defeating Viruses with Megavitamins; line up a Virus with three capsules of the same colour, and it gets defeated. He sometimes works alongside his nurse Princess Peach. In Dr. Luigi, Dr. Mario was absent, but the game introduced the titular younger brother as a doctor. | |
Luigi | Arcade Mario Bros. | Mario's younger, taller, lesser-known brother. Luigi mostly spends time in his sibling's shadow, and frequently ventures alongside him. However, Luigi got a starring role in Mario is Missing!, where he had to rescue his brother and the planet Earth from Bowser. In 2013, to celebrate 30 years since his debut, Luigi gained much more recognition, and many Luigi-themed games and merchandise were released. In fact, the year was dubbed the "Year of Luigi". | |
Waluigi | N64 Mario Tennis | A tall, skinny, cunning man who thinks of Luigi as his main rival. Waluigi often performs schemes with Wario. His rivalry with Luigi has been going on since the Nintendo 64 days, and will seemingly do anything to come out on top. | |
Peach | NES Super Mario Bros. | The princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. She is frequently kidnapped by Bowser and the Koopa Troop, but is always rescued, usually by Mario. As her name may suggest, she has an affinity for pink, and is normally a typical damsel in distress. In Super Princess Peach, however, she got a starring role; in this game, she was tasked with rescuing Mario, Luigi, and several Toads from Bowser. | |
Bowser | NES Super Mario Bros. | The King of the Koopas, and Mario's arch nemesis. Bowser frequently causes trouble to the Mushroom Kingdom, and has made something of a career in nabbing Princess Peach. Mario almost always beats him when they battle though. Bowser is capable of breathing fire, and has an enormous number of minions at his disposal. | |
Bowser Jr. | GCN Super Mario Sunshine | The mischievous son of Bowser. Bowser Jr. takes off after his dad, and shares his desire to defeat Mario. In his debut appearance, Bowser Jr. turned into a Mario look-alike and caused trouble. Junior seems to be the Koopa King's second-in-command, as when Bowser was injured in New Super Mario Bros., Bowser Jr. lead the Koopa Troop. | |
Daisy | GB Super Mario Land | The princess of Sarasaland. She first met Mario in Super Mario Land, where he rescued her from the evil alien Tatanga. Since then, she has become a Mario series regular. Daisy is a bit of a tomboy, and is much louder and less proper than Peach. It has been said that she is to Luigi what Peach is to Mario. | |
Rosalina | Wii Super Mario Galaxy | A mysterious character who lives in space and commands the Comet Observatory. She watches over and protects the cosmos, and has recently started appearing more alongside Mario and his friends. She particularly enjoys racing. | |
Baby Peach | DS Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time | Princess Peach as a baby. She can be prone to temper tantrums, but is always amused by the antics of Toadsworth. In Yoshi's Island DS, she helped the Yoshis by giving them a bit more air on their jumps. Despite being a baby princess, Baby Peach has paricipated in racing, baseball, and tennis. | |
Baby Daisy | Wii Mario Kart Wii | The infant self of Princess Daisy. Even at this young age, she is often excited, and eager to participate in competition. She has fairly good racing and baseball skills. | |
Goomba | NES Super Mario Bros. | Common enemies in the Mario series. These creatures used to live peacefully alongside the Toads, but turned traitorous to join Bowser. They are quite simple to defeat, as a single stomp usually dispatches them. Despite lacking arms, Goombas have been shown to do a number of things, even including playing baseball! | |
Koopa Troopa | NES Super Mario Bros. | Fairly common enemies that follow the orders of Bowser. The colour of a Koopa Troopa's shell determines how it attacks; green-shelled Koopas walk across a straight path (if an abyss enters their path, they just drop down into it). The red-shelled variety are a bit smarter, as they turn around and walk the other way when their path ends. Since their debut, Koopa Troopas have been popping up all over the place. | |
Piranha Plant | NES Super Mario Bros. | Vicious plants that attack anyone who comes near. They mostly lurk inside Warp Pipes, and hate fireballs. There are a variety of Piranha Plants, including gigantic ones and ones that spit fireballs. In Super Mario 3D World, characters could pick up certain Piranha Plants and use them to attack other enemies. | |
Boo | NES Super Mario Bros. 3 | Mischievous, yet shy ghosts. When looked at, they fade away, but when nobody is looking, they attack. They played a prominent role in the Luigi's Mansion games, and their leader, King Boo, has a fierce rivalry with the Mario Brothers. | |
Dry Bones | NES Super Mario Bros. 3 | Undead Koopa Troopas. When stomped upon, they fall apart, but quickly reassemble. In some games, they even throw their own bones to attack Mario and co. They have appeared in a large number of spin-offs, and despite being undead, their persistence lives on... | |
Bullet Bill | NES Super Mario Bros. | A bullet fired from a cannon caled a Bill Blaster. Bullet Bills fly across in straight lines, and are easily identified by their angry eyes. Although they are immune to fireballs, a stomp will defeat them. | |
Hammer Bro. | NES Super Mario Bros. | Hammer-throwing elites of the Koopa Troop. They also jump while throwing hammers, so attacking them can be tricky. Unlike other Koopa species, Hammer Bros. don't retreat into their shells when jumped upon. They are mostly found in pairs. | |

Mario as he appears in the Mario Strikers series. He is one of the team captains, and is a good all-around player. His Mega Strike - a special move that allows a captain to potentially score multiple goals at once, has him turn fiery and kick multiple balls toward the goal. | |

Diddy Kong | SNES Donkey Kong Country | Donkey Kong's adventuring partner. Diddy Kong will do whatever it takes to help DK, and is useful with his Peanut Popgun. Dixie Kong | SNES Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest | A member of the Kong family. Dixie commonly ventures alongside Donkey Kong and co., and even got a starring role in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble, where she was tasked with rescuing both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong from the Kremlings. She can use her ponytail to get a little extra air on her jumps, and pick up some heavier things, such as barrels. | |
Cranky Kong | SNES Donkey Kong Country | One of the older Kongs. Cranky Kong, true to his namesake, is constantly complaining and rambling on about the "good old days". King K. Rool | SNES Donkey Kong Country | The evil leader of the Kremlings, and a recurring villain in the Donkey Kong series. K.
