Mario Party: Friends and Foes is an upcoming Mario Party series fangame for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch. This game returns to the new gameplay formula seen in Mario Party 9, players compete to get the most Mini Stars while traveling through the board on one vehicle, though this time, everyone starts with five Mini Stars. Characters move around in vehicles taking turns being the captain and rolling the dice. Also, item shops return, this time in the form of Toad Houses, where a Special Dice Block is given to all players.

Mario and his friends finally feel sorry for some of their enemies, so they decide to invite them on their adventure, temporarily teaming up with them to save the planet from Dark Bowser and his army of brainwashed minions.

After destroying Dark Bowser once and for all, Mario's friends and foes celebrate togheter.

Modes[]

Party Mode[]

1 - 4 Players

The main mode of any Mario Party game. Here, players can compete against other players or CPUs on a party board. Customized settings can be chosen, such as disabling or enabling bonuses, CPU difficulty, etc. There are the same three ways as in Mario Party 8 of playing Party Mode:

  • Battle Royale: The free-for-all party mode. 4 players choose their characters and compete to see who is the superstar.
  • Tag Battle: The teams party mode. Here, 2 players team up against another 2 to see who is the superstar team. Teams still play separately, though. Most minigames played are 2 vs 2 minigames.
  • Duel Battle: The duel party mode. This mode is for only 2 players, but it still plays similarly to Battle Royale. Only duel minigames can be played.

Free Play Minigame Mode[]

1 - 4 Players

Here, players can choose the minigame they want to play at any moment. Boss Minigames are unlocked after beating them once in Story Mode.

Wizpig's Dark Tower[]

After playing once in Party Mode, this is unlocked.

Wizpig returns and is planning to control the Mushroom Kingdom from atop his tower. Mario and co. must traverse the numerous floors (which serve as levels) until reaching the roof where Wizpig awaits, and after beating him at a Mario Kart-like race, the mode is completed.

The gameplay is similar to that of Wario Land, with each character having different attacks to defeat enemies. Each five floors, the player must fight a boss.

Boss Bash[]

1 - 4 Players

This mode is only available after beating the story mode and Wizpig's Dark Tower once.

In this mode, players must fight all bosses from any of both modes without losing.

Boards[]

These are the boards in the order they must be clear Story Mode:

  • Toad Road (return from Mario Party 9)
  • Bob-Omb Factory (return from Mario Party 9)
  • Boo's Horror Castle (return from Mario Party 9)
  • Blooper Beach (return from Mario Party 9)
  • Airship Central (return from Mario Party 10)
  • Magma Mine (return from Mario Party 9)
  • Dark Bowser Station (new board, contains elements of Bowser Station from Mario Party 9, and Chaos Castle from Mario Party 10, as well as the Fawful Castle area from Bowser's Inside Story)

Playable Characters[]

Mario Party: Friends and Foes will have both Mario's friends and foes, and characters from other Mario sub-series as playable characters:

DLC Characters[]

A DLC Pack was released which includes characters from other franchises as playable.

Story/Party Mode Bosses[]

Wizpig's Dark Tower Bosses[]

Minigames[]

The game contains all Free-for-All, Duel, 1 vs. 3, 2 vs. 2, and Battle minigames from previous Mario Party games. Boss minigames are from Mario Party 9, 10, Island Tour, and Star Rush, being a bit more difficult because of some of the bosses having more attacks. Examples:

  • Lakithunder, who replaced Lakitu, apart from throwing normal and Giant Spinies, can launch lightning bolts from his storm cloud, and also dive down towards the players.
  • Boss Wiggler, who replaced Wiggler, apart from summoning Piranha Plants, can slam the ground with his legs, creating a green shockwave, and sometimes can also pluck Squigglers and Leaf Guys to attack players, throw big Turnips from the ground, and touching him from the sides, the back and the face will also damage you.
  • Gooper Blooper, who replaced Giant Blooper, apart from throwing Urchins and spitting ink to cover the screen, can swipe his long tentacles like whips to damage players; and Giant Mechakoopa can launch its legs forward like boomerangs.

Also, during boss minigames, all players have six hearts when fighting the boss. Losing all of them by taking damage will make each player to lose the battle, just like in Mario Party DS.

Extras[]

After the game's DLC is completely adquired, you can play one additional game mode named Super Party Maker, in which players can create their own Mario-themed level similarly to Super Mario Maker 2, except it has more stuff offer:

  • More Power-ups.
  • More Enemies.
  • More Bosses.
  • More level themes.

On top of that, you can choose any character of the roster to play your levels, and the gameplay will be different with each one of them, specially if the character isn't from the Mario series (for example, if you play as Shantae, you can transform her into any of her forms from Shantae: Half-Genie Hero with her belly dance, or attack with hair whips; and if you play as Kirby, you can inhale enemies to Copy their abilities).
