The Invincible Iron Man is an action-sandbox game by Clover Entertainment. It is the first open-world Iron Man game ever. It was released for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and Wii U, and sold 120,000 copies.

Plot[]

Tony Stark is a billionaire who creates machines for war. But one day, someone has stolen many of the machines. It is Obadiah Stane, who plans to use the technology to destroy New York and conquer the world. He also has a suit reverse-engineered through the Iron Man technology, Iron Monger. Now, it’s up to Tony Stark to become Iron Man once again to save New York City.

Gameplay[]

You play as Iron Man in an free-roaming New York City in an open-world sandbox action game. You take control of Iron Man. The main focus of gameplay is to give the player the feel they are really Iron Man. For example, being able to fly around the city at high speeds, and blow up things and enemies with your repulsor blast. Though your primary purpose in the game is to protect New York City from threats, there are no rules to enforce that. You could go crazy in your armor and attack the city for all I care. The environments are fully interactive and destructible. You can use the environments to your advantage to defeat the enemies. Like, if you rip a lamp post out of the ground, you can throw it at one of Iron Monger’s robot Henchmen.

Another way to give the feeling of being Iron Man is to allow an enormous assortment of weapons. There’s the repulsor blast, a laser that can come out of the palm of your hand. There’s also pop-out rocket launcher. You can unlock more weapons at Stark Industries, the menu where you can go to to buy upgrades for your Iron Man armor, such as more health, more weapons, increase speed and power and a lot more. All this will help in your mission to protect New York City. There’s also a special unlockable Iron Monger story, where you can play as the villain, Iron Monger. In it, your mission is to destroy New York City. While Iron Monger cannot fly like Iron Man, he can jump really high to get to places. Iron Monger even has his own story mode, where you set out to conquer the world and destroy Iron Man. There’s even Xbox Live, where you can fight other players around the world. You play as one of the Iron Man armors of your choice, and battle your friends.

The physics in this game are AMAZING. For example, if a car gets destroyed, it will explode or catch on fire, and debris will fly. If a building is damaged, chunks and pieces of it will fall to the street. When it takes enough damage, it will even collapse. Also, you're not restricted to just Manhattan in this game. You can also go to Queens, Brooklyn, and The Bronx.

Notes[]

  • Though the armor design is indeed the movie version and Tony Stark is voiced by Robert Downey Jr., this isn't really part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
  • This is the first Iron Man open-world game ever.
