Mario X Sonic: Cross Generation of Heroes (pronounced as Mario Cross Sonic) is crossover fighting game developed by Arc System Works for Arcade and published by Nintendo and Sega in the console ports of the game. A spiritual successor to Dimps Corporation's WarioWare: $parking Fighter$!, it is a crossover of both the Mario and Sonic franchises and is the first game to not be based on the Olympic Games. It should also be noted that this is the first time Archie Sonic characters appear in any other media aside from the comics.
Gameplay[]
Similar to Dragon Ball FighterZ, the gameplay is inspired by concepts from several other fighting games, primarily the Marvel vs. Capcom series' control scheme and team mechanics. Players each select three characters to form a team. One character is controlled and can be switched with one of the other characters at any time. Players can also call one of their other characters to perform an "Assist" move, allowing simultaneous attacks and combos with the entire team. All three of the opponent's characters must be defeated to win the game. Another feature from Dragon Ball FighterZ is the "Dramatic Finish" mode, in which if some characters win the fight against specific enemies, special cutscenes are triggered. A "Combination Finish" can be trigger if the player activates the hyper combos of all three characters simulatniously on the opponent's last teammate. The game also includes a cinematic story mode with quick time events similar to Tekken 7; single-player modes, such as Training, Mission, and Arcade Mode; and online multiplayer with ranked and casual matches, global leaderboards, and online lobbies with spectating.
Story[]
During a wild goose chase with Bowser, Mario and Luigi encounter a Genesis Portal in the sky which Bowser uses to escape from them. Unfortunately, it backfires as the portals rip the fabric of space and time, causing both worlds to collide. Eventually encountering with Sonic and the Freedom Fighters, the worlds of Mario and Sonic must join forces in order to stop Time Eater from erasing both universes.
Characters[]
An Asterisk (*) = Unlockable Character. Characters from GalaxyTrail's Freedom Planet serve as guest DLC characters to the game. With Mario, Sonic, DLC, and unlocked characters combined makes the roster a total of 50 playable characters.
