Super Mario Sunshine 2 will be a new Mario game and the sequel to 2002's Super Mario Sunshine for the Nintendo GameCube, but being developed for the Wii U. It will feature similar gameplay to its predecessor, and even takes place in Isle Delfino at points like the first game. In spite of it, the game will include a new story; Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad and Yoshi as playable characters, all-new four player gameplay, as well as new areas that expand the adventure in the surrounding seas.

Story[]

After the events of Super Mario 3D World, in need of a vacation, Luigi and Mario: the Mario Bros., and their friends Princess Peach, Toad and Yoshi all decide to head out to Isle Delfino and the islands surrounding it like Isle Medusa, Isle Tartaruga, Isle Granchio, Isle Pesce and Isle Aquilamanta. In the middle of the oceans surrounding the islands are the undersea kingdoms of Acqua, Gelo, Vapore and Cristallo, where not just Piantas, Nokis, Toads, Yoshis, Sunflower Kids and Tanookis live, but also the underwater Mertoads and Merfolk. When our heroes arrive at Isle Delfino aboard the Toad Express airplane/aeroplane (A Mushroom Kingdom version of a Boeing 747), they find that all of the townspeople are in a real state! Someone broke into Professor E. Gadd's laboratory and stole both F.L.U.D.D. and the Magic Paintbrush, using them to create a new kind of graffiti all over the ten kingdoms, in order to kidnap the ten rulers and leaders of the watery paradise lands!

Going around the islands and underwater kingdoms, our five heroes find that all the Shine Sprites have either been stolen or broken up into small pieces called Shine Rays, or used for transportation as Launch Sprites or Sling Sprites. Managing to examine a sample of the graffiti goop, the composition confirms that it comes from Dark Land, the leading province of the Koopa Kingdom. In the distance, our heroes see a fleet of eight or more Airships led by a pair of Koopa Clown Cars. It is now clear that King Bowser Koopa, Bowser Jr. and the Seven Koopalings are out to turn the tropical and oceanic paradises of Delfino, Medusa, Tartaruga, Granchio, Pesce, Aquilamanta, Acqua, Gelo, Vapore and Cristallo into their very own summertime seats of power. Several fortresses and areas lie heavily guarded by Bowser and the Koopa Troop, where the eight rulers and leaders of the islands and waters, as well as Shine Sprites are being held and misused to control the weather.

Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad and Yoshi then set off to recover the Shine Sprites, the Magic Paintbrush, and F.L.U.D.D. so that they can go throughout these summery and watery places to save the ten rulers and leaders of the islands and underwater kingdoms. In this adventure, not only do our heroes' Super Mario Bros. 2 abilities return (Mario's all-around stats, Luigi's higher jumping, Peach's brief hovering in midair, and Toad's faster running), but also the ability to both ride Yoshi and play as him from Super Mario 64 DS returns; the functions of the Magic Paintbrush and F.L.U.D.D. can be combined to help get you through the levels, but a new power-up can be used when within the harbors of the islands and underwater to help you: the Tritoni Mushroom. Take it, and your player character can turn into a Merperson, Mertoad for Toad, or Dorrie for Yoshi to go and stay down underwater indefinitely in order to get Shine Sprites and save the day.

Way on top of Corona Mountain lies the gooey hot tub of Bowser, which is guarded by a Mecha Bowser to keep you occupied from your goal. Nine circular platforms ring around the tub as Bowser shoots fireballs to throw you off the battlefield for good.

The Mayor/Royalty Figure is trapped in a cage on a rubber ducky boat floating in the goop of the hot tub. If some of that muck gets on the ducky boat, make sure to spray it off before continuing on with the fight!

TIP: Use the giant Mecha Bowser by climbing up it and use its height to either jump or jet with F.L.U.D.D. off of to land on the nine circular platforms that ring around the tub. Once that's done, victory time!
