As in the actual Smash Bros. games, Super Smash Stadium has a wide variety of characters that pop out of Assist Trophies. The Assist Trophy item debuted alongside Green Greens, on the very first episode, and has been a staple of the series.
Currently, there are 78 active Assist Trophy characters, and 34 retired, making for a grand total of 112, one more than the stage count except when SSB72 was active. This is due to the oddities of Malt Shop changing Assist Trophies when it returned from its retirement and SSB72 not debuting a new Assist due to it being planned to be a retired stage.
Active characters[]
Character Name | Description |
---|---|
Disables all opponents' moves except for those using a button that he "authorizes". (Unlike the similar Slowbro from the Poké-Ball side, he can't disable .) Any objections, lady? | |
Slices opponents with his sword. He can go through walls and turn into a bat, much like his father, Dracula. Also, his insistence on wearing high, block-heeled boots gives him an impeccable fashion sense for St. Clair Publications. ;) | |
Spews out blocks for 30 seconds that heavily damage anyone hit. | |
Manipulates a claw machine to grab opponents, dragging them to their doom unless they can button mash hard enough. | |
Launches into an electric guitar solo whose soundwaves inflict massive damage. | |
Plants bombs that explode in cross-shaped formations. Starts off planting them one at a time, but progresses to planting lines of bombs that chain into each other. | |
Teleports behind opponents and tries to scare them. Does 25% and moderate knockback sweetspotted, but 15% and minor knockback otherwise. | |
Essentially a more durable Green Shell. It actually turns around when it sees a ledge edge, though (a behavior it engages in during World 8-1 of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but this is an Easter egg more than anything else...). | |
Put on a concert that causes the flames and rapid zooming in from Season 47+'s Sudden Death to occur, with the camera focusing on them. | |
Whips opponents hard using his NES controller, or hits them with lasers using his NES Zapper. | |
Coats the battlefield in molasses for 60 seconds, which causes all opponents who step in it to get stuck. The sticky stuff favors high platforms, so it can be avoided by fighting on platforms underneath. | |
Charges, jumps, kicks footballs, and even throws baseballs at opponents. Dies if jumped on three times. | |
Runs wildly, trampling anyone in its way. The summoner can ride on its back. | |
Flings opponents a huge distance away. | |
Starts a game of Pong to three points, with the paddles and ball causing harsh damage to anyone who gets hit. | |
Spawn behind each opponent and mimics their moves for 30 seconds. Any opponent that hits them takes 10% and minor knockback. | |
Forces the stage into fixed camera mode, and manipulates the camera by way of pointing. The kill zones do NOT move. | |
From the obscure game Dillon's Rolling Western. He attacks by curling up into a ball, then charging at opponents. | |
In the Mega Man 7 incarnation of his Wily Capsule, he teleports all over the stage, firing homing missiles that burn, freeze, or paralyze opponents. | |
Summons a building from the ground, spearing anyone hit and doing heavy damage and knockback. | |
Electrokoopa | Fires its shell at opponents, doing severe damage but almost no knockback, instead paralyzing whoever gets hit. Can be killed while it's a Beach Koopa. In SSS, it assumes the appearance it has in other St. Clair Publications media (a regular Koopa, but with a purple shell) instead of its Super Mario Sunshine appearance. |
|
Summons ten "primitive" fighters that mimic any other fighter on the field, but without special moves. They are weak and easy to kill.
They do not appear in the video game, as Multi-Man Smash appears as a game mode, thus putting them in their original role. |
"Joke character" who dies easily and does almost nothing to opponents in return, although he may get lucky (10% chance) and do an insta-kill finger poke... | |
Attacks opponents with his sword. He can also use it to reflect projectiles.
When summoned, he'll say:
If Snake is an active fighter, he'll instead say:
| |
Flies across the screen from side to side on her broom, spewing out fireballs all the while. Some fireballs may stay on the battlefield for five seconds. | |
Attacks opponents with his famous Sonic Boom. Anyone who gets too close to him gets slammed by his Flash Kick. | |
Flings hammers in an arc while occasionally jumping. You could probably guess that. Assumes its Super Mario Bros. 1 form on San Fernando Valley. | |
Referencing what Nintendo originally did, before it was a video game company, these cards float around in the air and slice opponents. | |
Fires five rockets that home in on opponents. May (25% chance) fire off a second set. | |
Attempts to run over an opponent in her F-Zero car, then leaps out and does "cat-like" attacks. | |
Jumps back and forth. The arc it makes creates an invisible wall that opponents can't pass through. | |

File:Kristi-johnson.png |
The two (surviving) stars of an old St. Clair Publications show known as Biker Chicks (even though it ended with them dying; the irony!), they mount themselves on classic motorcycles and ram opponents at high speeds. |
File:Kate-garrison.png | The villain of a Back to Coolsville episode titled "Campaign for Real Booty", who returned for the series finale, "Supersize Sequel", she attacks opponents using body slams. They do insane amounts of damage as well as knockback! But because she's so fat, she's hellaciously slow, making her easy to avoid. |
Latches on to opponents and bites them hard. Button mash to shake one off. | |
Beats opponents down with Vulcan Jab, then finishes them off with Rising Break. | |
...and Knuckles |
Hits opponents with a Homing Attack and punches. He may also dig into the ground and strike with an uppercut. |
Blasts opponents with ice attacks. | |
Ciera, Salon, or Supreme? Either way, it slices opponents HARD with its two swords. Could potentially kill at 0%! However, the attack is ridiculously slow. It probably needs a 455 Rocket 88 engine. D: | |
Flings down Spinies that deal insane damage and knockback, and Meteor Smash anyone who gets hit in the air.
Unlike in the canon Smash Bros. games, Lakitu and the Spinies are full 3D in SSS (except on San Fernando Valley, of course). | |
Concentrates for five seconds, then slices a nearby fighter with her sword, inflicting up to 25% and moderate knockback. | |
Slices opponents with his huge sword. | |
Throws Lon Lon Milk at the summoner, healing them by 35% a pop. | |
Splits himself apart and vacuums in anyone close enough, while planting seeds that cause trees to shoot out and impale opponents. | |
Using PK Love, traps an opponent and does heavy damage and knockback to them. | |
Belches out three poison clouds that last 30 seconds each and do poison damage to any opponent caught in them. | |
The Hands don't appear on SSS proper, so we had to make them an Assist Trophy as a workaround. They act like they do in the Smash Bros. games, with each Hand having 300 HP to kill.
They are not Assist Trophies in the video game, as they have also been restored to their original role, just like the Miis. | |
Latches onto an opponent and "drains their health". Button mash to shake it off. | |
Forms her hair into an arm to grab opponents and toss them away, giggling all the while. | |
Crashes into the stage, engulfing all opponents in an all-consuming inferno. | |
Fires various beams and rays of light at opponents. | |
Throws Bob-Ombs for five seconds. They initially exploded immediately, but following the item's debut on Castle Siege, they began to act just like the item. | |
Annoys opponents for 15 seconds by constantly shouting, "Hey! Listen!" | |
Takes out her pencil and makes a crude drawing of any three of the following:
| |
Annoys the entire battlefield for 15 seconds by jumping in front of it. | |
Hurts to touch. The sludge it spews can further spawn Swoopin' Stus. Comes in the same eight possible colors that Petey Piranha can spew as part of Piranha Plant's Final Smash; exactly which color is predetermined by stage aesthetics, but if Piranha Plant is an active fighter, it will use the next available color in costume order. The electric sludge (which never spewed out Stus in canon...) can electrify opponents, and the flaming sludge can burn opponents if selected. | |
Gigantic dragon that attacks physically, as well as with fireballs that act like a Smart Bomb and sometimes leave flames on the battlefield, and a roar that can stun opponents/instantly break their shield. | |
Attacks by spinning. Her ARMS allow her to reach up to a Final Destination's length. | |
Shouts "Leave it to Heropon!" upon his arrival, then does any three of the following (he can repeat picks):
| |
Bayonetta clone (despite being one of the manliest men in the game...) who also tosses random items to the summoner. | |
Shoots and/or slashes opponents with his Dolphin Gun. | |
Emits thick green smoke that turns everyone invisible, reverses their controls, or flips the stage upside down. Also affects the summoner. | |
Walks around, occasionally spitting out bullets. Can be picked up and thrown. | |
A generally weak character who does little damage to opponents, but can explode if he is attacked enough. | |
Fires a few PK Beams from its eyes, then teleports to another location and does it again. It repeats this process three times. | |
Can only appear in areas with water. Hides in the water, shooting out missiles and emitting a sonic ping that makes any opponent hit dizzy. | |
After screaming out "Do the Mario!", he swings his arms from side to side to try and beat down opponents. More importantly, he uses the pro wrestling moves that Captain Lou Albano, who played him, often used. | |
Slices opponents close up with his katana, and throws Windmill Swords in an X shape at those far away. | |
Floats above the screen on his tails, Spin Dashing opponents downwards. Anyone hit is Meteor Smashed in the air and buried on the ground. | |
Slams down on opponents.
Ironically, despite debuting alongside Bowser's Castle, it actually cannot appear on that stage, as Thwomps are a stage hazard. | |
Lights itself on fire and shoots fireballs at opponents. | |
Says "This might get unpleasant!", turns into a dragon, and then razes the battlefield with fire. | |
After doing his infamous "koolie-ooooooooooooooom-PAH!" dance, one of the following things happens:
| |
Spins like a top (duh), spearing anyone he touches. But if they step on his head, he'll be stunned for five seconds! | |
Behaves more like the mole in Super Mario Sunshine despite having his Galaxy appearance. Fires Bullet Bills at opponents far away, and throws Bob-Ombs at those close-up. | |
Extremely deadly in a Stock match: he steals all but one of an opponent's lives! In a Time match, he sets a randomly-selected opponent's score to 0 instead, if it's positive; in a Coin match, he steals all of one opponent's coins. | |
Hits opponents by recklessly running into them and flinging his Wiimote. | |
Grabs her Camera Obscura and snaps pictures of opponents, doing insane damage and knockback if she can hit someone accurately enough. | |
Hurts to touch, to the tune of 15% and extreme knockback a pop. Can potentially kill at 60%. |
Retired characters[]
Character Name | Description |
---|---|
Obvious Mario ripoff who fought as a glitchy, inferior version of him. | |
Ate transforming and healing items, giving you their benefits (and sometimes drawbacks; it could eat Poison Mushrooms!). Also ate opponents, racking up damage quickly. | |
Stomped all over the ground, inflicting massive damage and burying anyone caught. | |
Acted pretty much like a Blooper might act in the Mario games. After five seconds, it scattered its kids all over the battlefield. Hurt to touch. | |
Flew at opponents in its typical curved fashion. | |
Alternated between the friendly yellow Doshin, who healed everyone that passed within it (including opponents), and the evil red Jashin, who hurt everyone (including the summoner). | |
Generated a bunch of numbers between 0 and 9. They'd hurt slightly to touch. Eventually, they would start combining, and if two numbers added up to 10, it would produce an extremely deadly explosion equivalent to that of a Smart Bomb. Numbers over 10 would inflict lesser explosions. | |
Ten Excitebikers rode around the arena. They didn't do much. Even worse, they could fall off ledge edges! | |
As in its home series, it spat its tail at opponents, then self-destructed when it ran out of ammo. | |
Jumped around and didn't really do much of anything. Hurt to touch. | |
Did nothing but spin. However, it was completely solid on all sides, making it a great alternate platform...or wall. | |
Marched around the course and fired shots for 15 seconds. Easy to avoid, and could walk off ledge edges. | |
Generated a giant neon hand that pushed opponents away. | |
Threw various fruits at you. If they hit you, you were healed by 10% a pop. | |
Attacked opponents using her drill. Could jump slightly. | |
Turned a portion of the stage into a yellow Koopa, Goomba, Thwomp, or Thwimp. | |
Shouted "KATANA!!!", "NINJA!!!", or "SHURIKEN!!!" in an ultra-cringey weeaboo way and swept the screen in an X fashion, something Latias and Latios would accomplish better when they debuted alongside Poké-Floats. | |
Rushed at anyone who got close to him and comboed them using his trash can lid shield. | |
The Red Mechakoopa bombarded opponents with homing missiles, while the Blue Mechakoopa engaged a Hyper Beam knockoff.
Apparently the blue one's real name is "Zappa Mechakoopa"...Frank, Moon Unit, Ahmet, or Dweezil? ;) | |
Bitched at you for over two and a half minutes, blocking your view of about half the screen in the process. | |
Lasted 30 seconds, during which it spat water at opponents or shot its buds. However, it took a second to evolve from a regular Piranha Plant; if it took 25% during this time, it died, and Kamek flew in shouting "OH MY!!!" If Piranha Plant was an active fighter, its color scheme changed to the next unused costume in sequence. | |
A GIGANTIC monster that took up nearly the whole stage. Anyone who fell into its mouth would be chewed up for as much as 40 to 75%, then spat back out. | |
Spewed rocks at opponents. | |
Pinky, Blinky, Inky, and Clyde all moved around the screen, hurting whoever touched them. | |
From the obscure NES game Baseball, he threw baseballs that paralyzed opponents. | |
Latched onto the summoner's arm for a full minute, boosting the power of all moves using arms. | |
Beat opponents down, using frog and snake transformations to disguise himself. | |
Clung onto opponents in a creepy way. | |
Attacked opponents using accessories from his own games. He can't feel too bad for being retired, because eight years later, he'd debut as a playable fighter alongside Pilotwings! | |
Shot opponents like crazy with her machine gun, reloaded, then did it again. | |
Usually ran away scared and did nothing. But if attacked enough, he'd unleash an insanely powerful attack that likely killed whoever was hit, even at 0%! | |
Attacked opponents using his bug spray, which like the Fan, was incredibly weak but could hit quickly and rack up a lot of damage. | |
"Stole" a fighter and dragged them to the nearest kill zone. | |
Essentially forced opponents to play Space Channel 5 for 15 seconds. Anyone who missed a command took damage. Anyone who missed all commands died instantly. |
