Super Mario Bros. Madness is a side-scrolling platform game released worldwide for the Nintendo 128 and on Steam on April 16th 2026. The game was announced on a Nintendo Direct on October 2025.
Story[]
Section 1: Floating Isles[]
Mario, Luigi, Toad, Yoshi, Peach, Daisy, Toadette, and Birdo were invited to Central Isle, right at the center at the planet. The game starts out with an opening level, where they make their way to the airport.
After the flight, they travel across Floating Isles, eventually making it to the Central Castle, exactly 0 degrees latitude and longitude. They go through four floors in the castle then making it to the roof, then being greeted by Toadsworth. He says that nobody's here right now. Inside the largest pillar of the castle were four diamonds, containing godly power. Toadsworth also explains that on a full moon, these diamonds are at their most powerful.
With the sun then setting, the full moon appears, when suddenly, Kamek takes the Divine Diamonds and gives them to Bowser, transforming him into a powerful form. Bowser then says that he is fed up with him being beat multiple times and says that he will destroy everything in the multiverse.
He then opens up a portal leading to the events of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, then bringing the Shadow Queen to the present to fight Mario and company. She gets beaten, and the Diamond of Wisdom is deactivated.
Section 2: Chlorophyll Marsh[]
After the tragedy, they then meet Wario, Waluigi, Pop Singer, and The Dazzles. Toadsworth takes a boat to go to the Chlorophyll Marsh. Upon entering, they then meet up with Mr. Vulpes, a movie star who was famous in Central Isle.
Meanwhile, Bowser has set up an organization for ruling the multiverse called BMD (Bowser Multiverse Domination). Eventually, he then sets up a missile attack on Chlorophyll Marsh,
Meanwhile, the crew then spotted Bowser's airship. They boarded it, then fighting Bowser Jr. Some time later, they come back to the hub and find out that everything was destroyed from the missiles. Suddenly, a hoard of Mechakoopas appear, and they fight them. They meet Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Rosalina, and Pauline on their travels, and then go and confront Bowser. Bowser says that he is on his way to become the new god of the universe, replacing the Star Angel.
Suddenly, Mr. Vulpes comes up, grabs the Diamond of Time, opens a portal, and throws King Bob-omb at him, lighting his fuse, then exploding Bowser and the Diamond of Life. The remaining 2 diamonds possess Mr. Vulpes, making him the new antagonist. He then opens a portal bringing Burt the Bashful into the present.
After Burt got defeated, the Diamond of Power is deactivated. Mr. Vulpes then starts attacking Mario and company, and they escape to Purplesnow Mountains.
Section 3: Purplesnow Mountains[]
Mr. Vulpes damaged the cable car, making the crew crash into the Ziggurat of Purplesnow, then meeting up with King Purplesnow. Luigi then talks about what was the problem. King Purplesnow then agreed to help the crew.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vulpes hijacked Bowser's airship, personalizing it. He then found a book in the drawer written by Bowser titled "DOOMSDAY MACHINE PLANS" and starting building the CCAM (Countdown to the Complete Annihilation of the Multiverse).
King Purplesnow and Mario's crew board the Mechanical Dragon, a locomotive that can fly in the sky. On the Mechanical Dragon, they encounter another hoard of Mechakoopas, but improved with artificial intelligence. The Mechakoopas then shoot a rocket, destroying the Mechanical Dragon.
The crew gets back on the ground safely. They also meet Tim, Starlow, Oiram, and Maria. They fight more Mechakoopas that also appeared. They also hear from Mr. Vulpes that he's going to make them star in a movie that the whole universe would enjoy.
The crew confronts Mr. Vulpes and he says that he has "lights and camera", and he asks if they can help out with the "action". He then opens up a portal and brings Tiki Tong into the present. He is defeated and the Diamond of Time is deactivated. There are only 5 hours on the Doomsday Countdown.
Section 4: Altaqua City[]
Mario and the crew take an elevator down to Altaqua City, a huge underwater dome, and where Mr. Vulpes' lair is.
Meanwhile in the lair, Mr. Vulpes makes a speech, and explains that the Doomsday Countdown will give him the power of the Star Angel, enough power to take over the multiverse. He even says that thanks to Bowser, he has a whole army.
Meanwhile, they then run into Mr. Vulpes, and he asks if they want to star in a movie. He then says that he needs a full cast of characters, and that he can't star in the movie unless Nabbit, Bowser Jr., Igiul, and Luise are with them. They then encounter Mr. Vulpes again later, and he starts attacking. They then find who else Mr. Vulpes needed.
The player then attacked by a hoard of Mechakoopas, then fainting.
Section 5: Central Castle Basement[]
The player is woken up by Toadsworth. Bowser was also tied up on a pillar, as Toadsworth says that he messed everything up by using the Divine Diamonds.
Toadsworth then unties Bowser, and the player follows Toadsworth to the basement of Central Castle, where there was an organization called the Alliance of Mushroom Galaxy Leaders. There was a meeting about Mr. Vulpes' plan to destroy the multiverse.
Mario and the crew were doing training. The Divine Diamonds had brought back many times throughout history, and they were used for training.
Meanwhile, Toadsworth had brought someone to help in the mechanics department. Bowser says that he is preposterous, and he goes to beat Mr. Vulpes by himself, and he leaves Central Castle. A Mechakoopa has found the Central Castle.
Section 6: Mr. Vulpes' Lair[]
Bowser crashed into Altaqua City and entered Mr. Vulpes' lair. There was an hour left on the Doomsday Countdown.
Meanwhile, Toadsworth has warned the alliance that Bowser is going to attempt to defeat Mr. Vulpes by himself. They were going to save Bowser.
Bowser meets Mr. Vulpes. He says that he gave him an army and an airship, so he can't kill Bowser, as he is the reason he is winning. The sprit that control the Divine Diamonds is actually in Mr. Vulpes' body, and the world has been fighting it for eons. The Mechakoopa that found the Central Castle then tells Mr. Vulpes that there is a secret base.
The alliance then makes it to the lair and makes it through. Meanwhile, Mr. Vulpes and Bowser were getting along with each other. Bowser father, Morton Koopa Sr. then.
Section 7: The Power Crystals[]
Mr. Vulpes says that they need to destroy four Power Crystals scattered across Central Isle if they want to defeat him. They then destroy the crystals, which are found in Floating Isles, Chlorophyll Marsh, Purplesnow Mountain, and Altaqua City. The alliance comes back, and Mr. Vulpes says that the Power Crystals were a trap, as they were keeping him from gaining the Star Angel's power.
The Doomsday Countdown hit zero. A giant portal sucked up everything in the multiverse.
Section 8: Mr. Vulpes' Brain[]
Everyone and every thought in the multiverse was all inside Mr. Vulpes' thoughts. There was a huge theater, shooting Mr. Vulpes' new film, Taking Over The Mushroom Galaxy. Bowser says that the multiverse is doomed, and it's all his fault.
They confront Mr. Vulpes one more time. Bowser then shoots a King Bill at Mr. Vulpes, but he makes it backfire, launching it at Bowser, making him launch into the air.
Mr. Vulpes says that it's time to finish this, and they have a battle. Some time later, Mr. Vulpes and Star Angel start to charge into each other. There was so much power, a rip in space time occured.
Bad Ending[]
The rip caused everything in the universe to be destroyed. The player wakes up in Altaqua City, just to find out they were dreaming after they fainted.
Good Ending (All 4 Special Courses complete)[]
The four Divine Diamonds then float over the player after the rip occured. They transform into their Ultimate Form, fighting Mr. Vulpes, and defeating him.
