Chunky Kong is a retired character on Super Smash Stadium. He debuted on the show's Season 23 premiere, alongside Kongo Falls, and was retired early in Season 37. He made 125 career appearances.
In his own universe[]
The apparent older brother of Kiddy Kong, Chunky's sole canon appearance has been in Donkey Kong 64 thus far. He was the strongest of the bunch in that game (able to inherently lift boulders the other Kongs couldn't, without any help from Cranky), but the slowest, and he had the weakest jump. He also appeared to be the dumbest Kong, talking in "You No Take Candle" style ("Me wait in Tag Barrel until you need help!"), and was strangely timid, acting scared of Dogadon and playing a triangle as his instrument.
Attributes[]
This Kong may have been a hell of a guy, but since he moved slow and couldn't jump high, he couldn't do well in the world of SSS at a time when the metagame favored characters like Fox, Falco, and Marth, fast characters that also packed a punch and could hit quickly. Chunky was seen as a more extreme version of Bowser until Ganondorf's debut in Season 28, at which point he began to draw comparisons to Ganondorf. Chunky's moves were extreme killers that opponents usually died to if they got hit, but since they were so slow and he telegraphed them from a mile away, he had issues.
He also had no air game to speak of. At least his grabs were useful.
Changes[]
- Season 36: The slowness and floatiness of the Brawl Era helped Chunky out just a smidge. Unfortunately, he had to pay for it with the introduction of tripping as a mechanic.
Moveset[]
Entrance: Broke out of a DK Barrel.
Move Name | Description |
---|---|
Neutral Special:
Pineapple Shot |
Chunky pulled out his pineapple gun and shot precisely that at opponents, inflicting moderate damage but light knockback. You could keep pressing to spam the move, but after ten shots, he was forced to drop the move for five seconds. He'd also put his gun away if you didn't use the move for five seconds.
Could not kill. |
Side Special:
Primate Punch |
Ridiculously slow but powerful punch, second only to the Home Run Bat in terms of kill power.
Killed at 25%. |
Up Special:
Backflip |
Chunky did precisely that. He couldn't hit anyone with this move.
Could not kill. |
Down Special:
Gorilla Gone |
Chunky turned himself invisible for a maximum of 5 seconds, during which he was immune to most attacks. He could not move, however, and this move's effectiveness went down if spammed. He was also still vulnerable to grabs.
Could not kill. |
Final Smash:
Hunky Chunky |
Chunky turned huge (twice as big as he would have turned with a Mushroom) for 15 seconds, during which he could damage opponents just by walking on them; anyone hit this way was buried. His attack power was also doubled in general.
Kill power was determined by what moves he used. |

- Up Taunt: Beat his chest and let out the famous "Tarzan Yell".
