Mario Kart Double Dash 2: Worldwide Circuit is an upcoming video game in the Mario Kart series. The game is scheduled to be released on the Nintendo Power Box in June 2016 as the thirteenth Mario Kart game overall.

Mario Kart Double Dash 2: Worldwide Circuit returns to the double player concept originally used in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! in 2003, but also gives the game a new coat of paint to stop the game feeling the same. It is overall the second game in the Mario Kart series to be developed by Power Team, with the first being Mario Kart: Triple Drift, released in 2006.

Characters[]

Every character in the game has a default partner who they share a Special Item with. Each character also has a certain Skill Type that changes what they can do in races, which can include:

  • POWER (Red)
  • when driving, the kart can smash through walls
  • when throwing, the player can smash through some stage obstacles
  • BOOST (Green)
  • when driving, the kart gets extra boost off boost panels
  • when throwing, the player will get items from item boxes immediately
  • FLIGHT (Yellow)
  • when driving, the kart can drive over water
  • when throwing, the kart can fly off trick panels

The colour of each character's name states what Skill Type they have.

Each kart has four different status; SPEED, which determines how fast the kart goes, ACCEL, which determines how much speed the kart gains back if it gets hit or stops, DRIFT, which determines how good the kart can drift and how easy it is to control, and WEIGHT, which determines how heavy the kart is. Heavier karts can knock lighter karts away easier.

Grand Prix[]

Grand Prix is the main mode of the game, and pits the player in a set of four races and several different oppoments. Players get points depending on how well they do in the race, and which ever player manages to score the most points wins.

Engine Class[]

Class Description Unlock Method
BronzenShell
50cc
In 50cc, all of the races are slow paced, and computer players are not at all aggressive. They will sometimes throw a banana peel or green shell towards you or use a mushroom to get ahead. Characters in the Boost skill type will often take the lead.
N/A
SilvernShell
100cc
In 100cc, all of the races run at a regular pace and computer players will behave in an average manner. They will sometimes throw red shells towards the player to try and take them down. Characters in the Flight skill type will usually take the top positions.
N/A
GoldenShellSME
150cc
In 150cc, the races will be fast paced and computer players will be aggressive, and will now use blue shells to take down the player as well as lightning. Power skill typed characters will almost always take the lead.
Obtain 4 gold trophies in both 50cc and 100cc.

Points[]

The amount of points each character receives depends on which engine class the player is playing on.

GP modes[]

There are several different types of Grand Prix in the game, which include:

  • Solo Grand Prix (1 or 2 players); the player(s) drive in a single kart and face off against seven other pairs as they try to compete for the trophies.
  • Team Grand Prix (2 to 4 players); the players ride in two karts as a team against 4 other teams of 2 karts.
  • Time Trial (1 player); the player races alone on a single track without any computer players. Most of the stage hazards are gone too. The player has four mushrooms which they must use to their advantage.

Award Ceremony[]

At the end of every Grand Prix, the top 4 groups in Solo GP or top 3 teams in Team GP are seen celebrating on a podium. The award ceremony takes place on the last race of the Grand Prix. If a character finishes 5th or lower in Solo GP or their team comes in 4th or 5th in Team GP, they will usually clap, although there are a few exceptions:

  • Waluigi stomps his feet on the ground.
  • Hammer Bro. performs a chicken dance.
  • King Boo cries.
  • Werten crosses his arms and looks away.

If the player finishes in the top 4 of a Solo GP, they will receive a gold, silver, bronze or green trophy. If they finishes in the top 4 of a Team GP, they will receive a gold, silver, bronze or green trophy (even though 4th does not finish on the podium in Team GP).

Items[]

Name/Image Description
ItemBoxMK8
Item Box
These are located in several areas in each track. Collecting one will give the player a certain item, depending on the box's colour. The box's colour can be:
  • GREEN, which gives out items that the player uses on themselves
  • YELLOW, which gives out items that the player places on the track
  • RED, which gives out items that the player uses against their rivals
Coin
Coin
Coins are scattered around every track in the game. Everytime a player gets hit or falls off the stage, they will lose 3 coins (should they have any). If a player manages to collect 20 coins, they will receive their Special Item (or a Special Item, in Hoshi and Werten's regards). They will need an extra 20 coins if they want their Special Item after that (so if they want their Special Item a fourth time, they will need 80 coins)!

Green Box Items[]

Name/Image Normal Function Alternative Function
SuperMushroom
Mushroom
Gives the kart a boost, which will allow it to cut through grass and mud without losing speed. Can come in doubles and triples. Gives a bigger boost, but prevents the kart from moving when in affect.
PoisonMush
Poison Mushroom
Shrinks the kart and the players to a tiny size, making them easier to avoid items, immune to Lightning and allows them to go through tight gaps with sneaky shortcuts. A barrier appears around the player, making them invinicible during the process, but doesn't last as long.
♪Mushroom
Note Mushroom
Destroys all the items around the player and can even take out the Blue Shell. Can come in doubles and triples. Has a shorter range, but can also damage enemies surrounding the player.
Coin Mushroom NSMBVR
Coin Mushroom
Gives the player a boost as well as giving them 3-5 coins. Doesn't give as big a boost but gives the player 8-10 coins.
Metal Mushroom
Metal Mushroom
Makes the player invincible from two attacks (a Blue Shell will destroy the invincibilty all together). Protects the player from three attacks, but their speed will slightly decrease (a Blue Shell will still destroy the item entirely).
NSMBWii1upMushroom
Ultra Mushroom
A meter will appear above the player. When the player presses the C button again, they will get a boost depending on how high the meter is. If the meter goes too far, however, the player will spin out. The meter goes slower, allowing the player to time better, but the boost isn't as effective.
BooMush
Boo Mushroom
Makes the player invisible and transforms itself into a random Green item. When the player is invisible, they can drive across grass and mud without slowing down. Makes the player invisible for longer, but doesn't allow the player to cut through grass and mud as easily.
Star
Star
Gives the kart invincibilty, as well as increasing its speed, cutting through grass and mud without slowing down and knocking other vehicles away for a short period of time. Doesn't increase the player's speed, but last much longer.

Yellow Box Items[]

Name/Image Normal Function Alternative Function
Banana Peel
Banana Peel
The player throws this onto the ground, and any kart that touches it will spin out. Can come in doubles and triples. The players throws this is a 45/315 or 135/225 degrees angle, rather than straight forward or back.
TBAExplosive Peel This is just like a Banana Peel, but causes an explosion if a kart touches it, causing everyone around to go flying! Has a much bigger blast (which can help or hinder the player).
BobOmbMK8
Bob-Omb
The player throws this onto the ground. It will explode after a few seconds, sending anybody caught in the blast flying. Can come in doubles. Takes longer to explode, but the blast is bigger.
TBAIce Bob-Omb This is just like a Bob-Omb, but when it explodes, it will freeze anybody in the explosion! Has a shorter blast range, but freezes players for longer!

  • Unlike other Mario Kart games, the music does not speed up during the final lap.
  • Mr. Game and Watch is completely 3D in this game.
