Trivia[]
General[]
- This is the first Game in the series with an different Artsyle: The Game uses a 2D artsyle where cartoonish characters like Mario or Kirby and anime styled character like Link or Marth are represented in their respective artstyle and character with a more realistic artstyle like Snake or Lara Croft are representet in a style like western comics.
- The reason why so many Stages were scrapped was that several Stages in Ulimate were very similar like Mushroon Kingdom U and 3D Land represent Levels from New Super Mario Bros. etc.
- This is the first Game to make a former fighter who was an Assist Trophy in a previous installation, a Assist Trophy again.
- Several Franchises were considered to get enemies, but were scrapped: Skyrim, Mass Effect, Arknights, Guilty Gear, No More Heroes, Touhou Project, Valkyria Chronicles, League of Legends, Tomb Raider & Yo-Kai Watch.
Scrapped Fighters[]
- Dark Samus (Metroid), Daisy (Mario), Lucina & Chrom (Fire Emblem), Dark Pit (Kid Icarus), Ken (Street Fighter) & Richter (Castlevania): Scrapped due to being Echo Fighters & because they do offer nothing to the roster.
- Dr. Mario (Mario), Pichu (Pokemon), Young Link & Toon Link (The Legend of Zelda), Roy (Fire Emblem): Scrapped due to being very similar to an Echo Fighter.
- King Boo (Mario): Was scrapped due to hitbox problems.
- Dimentio & Fawful (Mario): Were scrapped due to a lack of push.
- Funky Kong (Donkey Kong): Was scrapped due to Brady thinking that there's enough Donkey Kong characters.
- Sylux (Metroid): Was made into an Assist Trophy & Mii Gunner as Raven Beak took his place.
- Ninten (MOTHER), Black Shadow (F-Zero), Octoling (Splatoon) & Jeanne (Bayonetta): Scrapped due to being similar to an Echo Fighter.
- Porky (MOTHER): Returns as a boss.
- Claus (MOTHER): Was made into a Mii Swordfighter & a Mii Gunner due to a lack of push.
- Black Knight (Fire Emblem): Returns as an Assist Trophy.
- Alear (Fire Emblem): Was made into a Mii Swordfighter due to the divisive reception of Fire Emblem Engage & being too similar to Tiki as well as their gimmick being too confusing to implement.
- Cinderace & Meowscarada (Pokemon): Scrapped to preserve the Starter Trio: Charizard, Greninja and Decidueye, though Deoxys & Hatterene were chosen instead due to being more interesting.
- Isabelle (Animal Crossing): Scrapped due to not fitting well into the roster, her Special Moves were reused for the Villager.
- Spring Man (ARMS): Returns as an Assist Trophy.
- Tethu (Ever Oasis) & Sami (Advanced Wars): Were scrapped due to a lack of push, though the latter would become a Mii Gunner.
- Euden (Dragalia Lost): Was made into a Mii Swordfighter due to being too similar to Tiki as well as how the game isn't available everywhere & because of the servers shutting down in 2022 due to Nintendo moving away from doing mobile games due to the flak they got for Mario Kart Tour.
- Amy & Shadow (Sonic): Scrapped due to the high number of Sonic Reps.
- Viola (Bayonetta): Was made into a Mii Swordfighter due to both her divisive portrayal in Bayonetta 3 from both a character & gameplay standpoint among the other complaints the game got & how she's now going to take Cereza's place as the main protagonist.
- Demi-Fiend (Shin Megami Tensei): Was made into a Mii Brawler due to being obscure.
- Nahobino (Shin Megami Tensei): Was made into both a Mii Brawler & Mii Swordfighter due to Brady not wanting to use player-insert characters outside of the ones already added, though the mixed reception of Shin Megami Tensei V's story didn't help either.
- Makoto & Yu (Persona): Return as Mii Swordfighters due to Brady thinking Joker's enough to represent Persona.
- Aigis (Persona): Was made into a Mii Gunner due to Brady thinking that she's too similar to KOS-MOS & 2B.
- Violet (Persona): Was scrapped due to Brady never understanding as to why she got a push, though complaints that Persona 5 Royal got from having her role in the plot confined within the Third Semester, lack of screentime with the Phantom Thieves outside of Joker & how her character arc was quickly overshadowed by Maruki's didn't help either.
- Ichiban (Yakuza): Was made into a Mii Brawler & Mii Swordfighter since he was considered to take Kiryu's place, since Toshihiro Nagoshi said that it was out of character for him to appear in fighting games all because they have female characters in them, which Brady saw as a weak excuse, despite knowing that the franchise doesn't have any female enemies or bosses, despite having some villainesses, though the complaints that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth got for straying away from stories related to the Yakuza & putting New Game + behind a paywall didn't help either.
- Amitie & Ringo (Puyo Puyo): Were made into Mii Brawlers due to being similar to an Echo Fighter.
- Alicia (Valkyria Chronicles): Was made into a Mii Gunner due to Selvaria being more of the mascot of the franchise, despite being the main protagonist.

- Axel (Streets of Rage): Was made into a Mii Brawler due to being too similar to Terry, despite the success of Streets of Rage 4.
- Ryo Hazuki (Shenmue): Was made into a Mii Brawler due to using some of the same attacks Kiryu has, the games failing commercially & the divisive reception of Shenmue III for both trying to remain faithful to the previous games & changing certain things, despite Shenmue: The Animation being a success.
- Raiden (Metal Gear): Was made into a Mii Swordfighter since Brady thought he was too similar to 2B, despite the cult classic status of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
- Pyramid Head (Silent Hill): Was made into an Assist Trophy since Brady thought he would move too slow as well as the negative reception to the Silent Hill 2 remake being a movie tie-in to Return To Silent Hill.
- Bill (Contra): Was made into a Mii Gunner due to the Contra franchise being dead after the failure of Contra: Rogue Corps.
- Proto Man, Bass & X (Mega Man): Return as Mii Gunners & appear in Mega Man's Final Smash due to being similar to an Echo Fighter.
- Zero (Mega Man): Returns as an Assist Trophy & a Mii Swordfighter due to Travis already filling the beam sword user in the roster.
- Luke (Street Fighter): Was made into a Mii Brawler due to the lukewarm reception he got in Street Fighter V, despite being more likeable in Street Fighter 6.
- Chris & Jill (Resident Evil): Were scrapped in favor of Leon due to him being more well-known thanks to the remakes of both Resident Evil 2 & Resident Evil 4, though the latter would appear as a Mii Gunner.
- Vergil (Devil May Cry): Was made into a Mii Swordfighter due to being too similar to Sephiroth & the Iaijutsu style already being covered by Yuzuriha & Narmaya.
- Nero (Devil May Cry): Was made into a Mii Swordfighter & Mii Gunner due to a lack of push, even with him taking Dante's place as the main protagonist.
