Worldwide, the game has sold 8 million copies worldwide, It is for the Wii and Wii U. It is also known to be the first truly-open world Transformers game since Transformers: The Game. The game was featured on Fantendo World, on June 16.

Plot[]

Taking place during Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Starscream, and his new minion, Shockwave, have discovered a resource known as Dark Energon, a corrupt version of Energon that can revive the dead. They steal Megatron's dead body from the ocean, and use the Dark Energon to revive him. Megatron, now back to life, decides to use the Dark Energon to unleash an army of undead Decepticons to take over the world. It's up to Optimus Prime, Ironhide, and the other Autobots to stop him and save Earth from destruction.

Gameplay[]

Transformers: Unleashed is an open-world action sandbox game. You can pick from a Transformer of your choice, Autobot or Decepticon. You can roam freely in several open-world environments. Everything can be destroyed, and cars that you shoot at crumple, wreck and explode, and buildings that you attack or shoot crumble, fall apart, and topple in a realistic fashion. The destruction physics and graphics have never been this amazing. It’s all done using the Clover Engine 2.5, the most realistic destruction engine to date.

Of course, it can’t be a Transformers game unless you have the ability to transform from robot to vehicle. You can alternate from the 2 at any time. You can also earn Energon points, points that you can use to earn upgrades for your faction. You earn them by doing things according to your specific faction. Autobots earn Energon Points by defeating Decepticons and protecting the humans. Decepticons earn points by defeating Autobots and killing humans and causing destruction to cars and buildings. Both factions can earn Energon by completing story and challenge missions as well. Missions vary depending on your faction too. Some missions for Autobots require you to defeat some Decepticons and getting to a certain location quickly, or escorting a human or Autobot to safety. Decepticon missions sometimes have you killing all the Autobots in the mission, racing to a certain location or tearing down buildings to uncover a certain objective you need to succeed.

Transformers Gameplay

Optimus Prime battling Shockwave in Tokyo.

Also, you can play online on Nintendo Network with friends or people around the world. There are different matches, such as Deathmatch, which is classic Autobot vs. Decepticon battles, and Capture the Flag, where you have to get the other team's flag, and bring it back to your base, and Destruction (Decepticon characters only), where you have to cause more destruction to the city than everyone else. You can also create your own unique Transformer which you can play as using the Transformer creator. You can design its appearence, stats, weapons, and vehicle mode.

Decepticon/Autobot drones are in the game as enemies. Each type of Decepticon or Autobot drone is unique. There are some that require you to use melee attacks because they have shields to block your weapons. It can also be the other way around, with weapons being the effective one. But some require you to have to pick up an object such as a car or a piece of rubble and throw it at a drone, temporarily stunning them and allowing you to destroy them.

Each Transformer has a unique special attack. Megatron's special attack for example, unleashes a energon blast that will destroy enemies, flatten entire buildings, and send traffic cars flying. Optimus Prime, he has the ability to upgrade himself using his Power-Up upgrade from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. In this state, he can fly, is extremely powerful and is invincible. But this is only temporary.

Development[]

The concept for the game first came about in early 2011, and Clover Entertainment decided to make a Transformers game. They thought about what the premise could be about and at first thought maybe it could be a sequel to Dark of the Moon. But that was scrapped because all the leading Decepticons were dead at the end of the film, so they decided to make it an alternative story for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Clover knew that a lot of people hated Revenge of the Fallen, so the story is an idea of what the plot could've been, and make it into something better.

Then the game was finished in early 2012, and is now to be released on July 4. It will be announced in Fantendo World.

Playable characters[]

Autobots (Robot Modes)[]

The Autobots are the good Transformers that want to protect Earth and the humans. They are led by Optimus Prime.

Autobots (Vehicle Modes)[]

It can't be a Transformer game unless you have the ability to turn from vehicle to robot at any time. Here are the vehicle modes for the Autobots.

Decepticons (Robot Modes)[]

The Decepticons are the evil Transformers that want to destroy Earth and eradicate the human race. They are led by Megatron.

Decepticons (Vehicle Modes)[]

These are the vehicles the Decepticons turn into.

Secret Characters[]

Secret characters are characters you can unlock in the Energon Shop. You can also buy them all at once on the Wii U Shop Channel. These characters don't have any part in the story, but are playable in story mode and multiplayer.

Environments[]

Reception[]

The game's reaction was similar to Transformers: Dark of the Moon's reaction, and recieved mostly mixed to negative reviews. FGN reviewed the game, stating they like the inclusion of G1 characters, but criticized the environments and the concept of an open-world environment, stating it's too much like Clover Entertainment's other games, except with Transformers. However, despite a seemingly positive review, they gave the game a rather mediocre score of 3 out of 5 (equivalent to a 6/10). However, this was the highest rating it was given by any reviewer. Mariothemovie gave it a 4.5/10, and Spark01 gave it 4/10. Brock Productions rated it a 2/5, or 4/10. Overall, the game got:

Two out of five.

Special Edition for Hybrid Delta[]

A Hybrid Delta special edition COULD be considered in the near future. Clover said, "Maybe we could do this. If Fusion Entertainment gives us permission, then, sure, we'll do it. It would feature more secret characters, more modes Online and in Single Player, and much better graphics. There would also be a Transformers Movie Trilogy Combo Pack, with DVDs of all three Transformers films:

  • Transformers.
  • Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
  • Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

The special edition also has a behind-the-scenes featurette showing the creation of the three films and a Certificate of Autenticity, signed by Michael Bay himself.
