— Bowser, Super Mario Legends

Super Mario Legends: Saga of Evil (also known simply as Super Mario Legends or Mario Legends) is a game for the Nintendo Wii starring the Mario Brothers. It serves as a spiritual successor to the original Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, and the Paper Mario series. This causes it to have different types of levels.

Story[]

Mario is invited to Peach's castle for breakfast. He quickly accepted at arived shortly after. He met up with Luigi, Daisy, and DK. Bowser then appears with Bowser Jr., appearently to once again kidnap the princess. Mario defeats him however, and Bowser goes back to his castle crying. Bowser then desides to stop at nothing to defeat Mario.

He then kidnaps E. Gad, and forces him to make him a time machine, which he uses to summon Baby Bowser. The two go on an evil rampage, but Bowser Jr. thinks differently and joins Mario's crew, which now composes of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong, and the eight set off to stop the evildoers in their Koopa Clown Castle, but not all is that it seems.

In the final battle, Jr. realises his father's insatity. Claiming he doesn't want to be like him, he attacks him, knocks him out a window and Bowser falls to his appearent death, and Baby Bowser gets sent back to his own time. Bowser Jr. then walks away from the Mushroom Kingdom to have his own adventures.

As mentioned above, there are different play styles for different levels. A few fetures are the classic 2D Mario formula that was seen in Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario World. Another fetures Super Mario Brothers 2's gameplay, similliar to Super Mario 22. It also fetures Paper styled levels.

Project History[]

Back when WiiSmarts Inc. just hit the hirizion, they mentioned a Mario game was likely to be made. They later revealed Super Mario 22, a game that was appearently not the game they had spoken about. It was later desided that the real Mario game would be held off, untill a point where it was revealed the game was being made again.

Legacy[]

Reception[]

The game was highly hailed for it variation on Mario game formula, although it was critized by some as being too violent. Despite this, the game sold over a million copies and has since become a Players Choice.

Sequel[]

WiiSmarts Inc. has many times stated they would like to make a sequel, although the game has yet to been officially announced. They have stated they want to do something different with the sequel, and it will likely star Luigi. Many reports have stated that Bowser Jr.'s "unfinished story" will be explained.

Media[]

SMLTR

The roller-coaster.

The game was also highly advertised in the media. A Toy Line was made for action figures of the eight playable characters, as well as Bowser and Baby Bowser. In addition, a roller-coaster (pictured) was also made.

Rating[]

The game has been criticized and hailed for its departure from the bright cartoony world of previous Mario games. Because of this, the rating companies were, for a time, undecided on the rating. A few reports stated that the game would be rated M, although these false reports were uncovered quickly. The game was later officially announced to be rated T, which still gave many gamers uncertainty about buying the game. The game has, despite this, managed to make a good success on the market.

Trivia[]

  • The game fetures a rather dark plot compared to most Mario games.
  • This is the first Mario game to have a T rating.
  • This is the first appearence of Mac the Koopa in a game.
