Ghosts are the most common enemy in the Pac-Man series, and have been ever since the original PAC-MAN arcade game. In many Pac-Man games, they inhabit the mazes that Pac-Man must traverse, acting as obstacles to hinder his progress. In many instances, they are invincible and can only be defeated by eating them after picking up a Power Pellet.
Despite the series introducing a plethora of different Ghost characters, most often the term "Ghosts" refers either to the species at large or to the original four ghosts that appeared in PAC-MAN: Blinky, Inky, Pinky, and Clyde. Several other notable Ghosts from the series are Betrayus from Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, Sue from Ms. Pac-Man, and Funky from Pac-Mania.
