Despite the good concept, I feel like this will go nowhere does to feeling too much like Darmanitan Slam but with different characters. While the reboot will have the characters back (albeit with real names instead of being named after their species), it will be much different than this initial version and have a much more distinct gameplay.

You can still read this page if you wish, but don't expect this to be the "canon" out of itself; instead, shall it come back, it might be reshaped into fitting into the Secretverse (or still its own universe) with drastic changes while still keeping the original essence. Who knows! - Samtendo09 (tbc)

Meloetta and the Island Saviors (島の救世主!メロエッタ のシャイン! Translated as Island Saviors! Meroetta's Shine!) is a Pokémon platformer-RPG game made by Gear Games, published by Nintendo and Pokémon Company. It is a tribute and spiritual successor of VictoryStar (tbc)'s Darmanitan Slam series, and the same series had its own reboot with Darmanitan Jam trilogy. It is later revealed that the game is a side-series of the tributed Darmanitan Slam franchise.

The game inspires the 2.5D platforming gameplay, but instead of stomping an enemy without any moves, the Pokémon uses the moves to defeat the opponents like in their home series, but many mechanics and Pokémon who become playable are modified in order to give a more comfortable platforming gameplay and to balance any issues from the main-core games. It stars Meloetta, the Melody Pokémon, and her partner Whismur, find the Island Saviors to stop the conflict caused by Bisharp and his army, the Chaotic Baka-Mubou.

The game have critically high positive (but not universal) reviews from critics and fans of Pokémon alike, praising for its more balanced Pokémon gameplay with multiple issues fixed, intense but fair boss battles, the music, the humor of the game and the charm from the game, but is criticized for frequent amount of hard levels and dangerous enemies that requires strategy.

Story[]

Intro Level[]

In the Harmony Island, where no bigotry, war and injustice are tolerated, have a peaceful day... until an egoistical warmaker called Bisharp and his loyal right-hand woman Weavile, leads his Chaotic Baka-Mubou army (Baka-Mubou actually reckless fools...but it was Weavile who named it and Bisharp doesn't know what does it means) to steal the treasures held by most countries, and then leave some fake evidences to cause conflict between all countries.

Mew, the messager, attempt to get to the Secret Palace and call her master, Arceus, to stop it but he is somehow missing, with a message that he is after "The Feared One", and although it is dangeorus, he never restrict anyone to stop any major problems if it means to restore peace.

Mew, concerned by this, have no idea what to do as even the other Legendary and Mythical Pokemon fight each others, but a mysterious Pokemon appreared and tell him to gather the Island Saviors, although Mew was not ready to take on such a big war. However, he can give help to her childhood friend who is very skilled and brave; Meloetta. The mysterious Pokemon ask if she is sure about the solution, and Mew add that she will stop the war among with the Island Saviors. The mysterious Pokemon seems to doubt, but then replied that he might as well help them in case the situation turned more bleak. Mew, happy about the plan approved, flies to the Island and attempt to find her.

In the meanwhile, Meloetta and her partner, Whismur, try to find Jumpluff who told them to meet at the forest where she will teach about the secret of Mega Evolutions and Power-Blitz in this world. However, as long as they found Jumpluff, she got captured by a pair of Abomasnow and an army of Farfetch'd. The two protagonist have to defeat them to rescue Jumpluff.

Upon the rescue completed, Jumpluff will teach them how to use the Power-Blitz with the Power Orbs, and she handed them for Meloetta and Whismur. However, a Pokémon attempt to attack them. It is Weavile, who present herself as Bisharp's second-in-command. She challenge Meloetta for a dual, albeit the latter one got defeated quickly and Weavile said that she will have no mercy and add that Meloetta better get hurt. Meloetta scowl, and use her Power Orb, much of Weavile's shock. Meloetta overwhelm her, causing the Dark/Ice-Type Pokémon to retreat.

Jumpluff and Whismur cheered for her, but a jeer came from someone else, much of Meloetta's chargin. With a disappointed look, she look back at the Pokémon called Mothim, who claim that he can do even better and that he will be the local hero. Jumpluff, not pleased to hearing it, used Hurricane to shoo off Mothim, as the latter one fled in fear. Jumpluff then tell Meloetta and Whismir to return to Centio Town.

Centio Town (HUD Stage)[]

Back at Centio Town, there was a buzz between various Pokémon, and Jumpluff, Whismur and Meloetta wanted to know what is going on. Prinplup, the assistant of the town's mayor, told the town-Pokémon to keep calm as the mayor arrived to give a shocking announcement. The mayor, Maractus, announced that the war between multiple countries had begin and that they must prepare themselves for maximum defensive system, physically, spitirually and mechanically, in case that any or multiple invaders will strike, and that no children shall leave without any adult for protection.

The town-Pokémon started to worries and even a few started to panic. Even Snorlax had panicked and even dug the ground with Dig to hide himself, although his size will only leave his tail visible. Maractus then order the Pokémon to stay calm, with the Snorlax getting unearthed by Eelektross and Rhyperior. She then add that the disciplined Pokémon of the Solidarity Academy, such as Meloetta and Whismur, will have to find the Island Saviors in order to stop the war. Mew arrived, announcing that it is exactly what Meloetta and Whismur shall do, much of the latter two's shock.

Mew continues that it was Bisharp that caused all along. Some Pokémon were really surprised, but others stay cautionous, knowing how much Bisharp is not that of a threat because of his big ego. Meloetta was not too sure about it; she did met and defeated Bisharp before, but she believed that he is not too good on his own. Whismur, however, remembered that Bisharp did truly say that he will cause the discord of the countries, and Meloetta become more worried.

As the announcement ends, Meloetta, Whismur and Jumpluff try to put up a plan on how to find the Island Saviors, but had no idea where to find them. Then Medicham, the director of the Pokémon Solidarity Academy, told them to come in that building and tell them a secret, as the three follows. Upon getting in Medicham's principal room, she reveal herself that she was the former chief of the Island Saviors but that she retired after many years. She tell them that the Island Saviors will be everywhere and only accept help if the two proved themselves to be strong and noble.

While Jumpluff prefered to stay in the town, Meloetta accepted, although Whismur hesitate a bit, before deciding to aid Meloetta to make sure she will not get hurt. Medicham was happy to hear their acceptance, but told them to train much more in order to be more than capable.

After the vigorous training in the gym, Meloetta and Whismur got praises from most of their colleges, with some jealousy of the minors like Ghastly, and Medicham told them that they are certainly ready. She and most of the Solidarity Trainees wishes them good luck.

Meloetta and Jumpluff had checked the map and had to decide where they should start. They decide to go into Plain Field so that they will start softly.

Gameplay[]

The gameplay seems to inspires multiple elements from Darmanitan Slam series, but with multiple differences, such as actually using the Pokémon base stats as their own stats, uses more Moves and hold Abilities, as well as more functionality of the moves. The hit point system works the same as in Pokémon, but the playable and Boss Pokémon had more HP.

Moves are the main method to attack the opponents. Unlike in the main games, the action is real-time based and live thus make the game much more skill-based than luck-based. As such, most luck-based mechanic are heavily modified, such as the frequency of secondary effect had become severely lower, the accuracy and evasionness are removed in favor of more logical mechanics and the OHKO moves becomes "Finishing Moves", which only works if the Pokémon had HP in red (1/4).

Faster Pokémon can run fast but have slower dodges, while slower Pokémon run slower but have longer and larger dodges. Decreased speed do not affect the jumping distance, but increased speed do. Also, very slow Pokémon are capable to have a long leap.

The game is splitted in multiple countries, with most levels called Places having a specific prominant type (Cyber and Light-Types are included in this game), as well as some extra stages not part of any of the countries. Each level have a boss at the end, but sometimes there is more than one. Clearing a level will unlock four of the Island Saviors.

Boss Battles works differently than normal levels; the bosses have different strategies and will change it depended on the player's own strategy, requiring the player to avoid spamming a certain move and varied its move instead, or wait for an opportunity to attack. All bosses have two phrases, and some even Mega Evolves.

Supporting[]

All of the supporting Pokemon are members of Pokemon Solidarity Academy unless otherwise stated.

Pokemon Role
PTSR-Medicham Medicham, the retired chief of the Island Saviors after spending years of protecting Pokemon of the Harmony Island, and thus passed her role for Ariados, with Minun as the latter one's right-hand man. As now, she remains the main principal for the Pokemon Solidarity Academy.

However, she is open to help Meloetta, Whismur and the Island Saviors in the middle of the game to track down Bisharp, as well as some other occasions.

092Gastly

Ghastly is a prankster apprentice who is more about pulling pranks than focusing on his objectives, even if his father had learned to stopped doing so. He and Corphish may are troublesome but Ghastly is not the most skilled apprentice.

Despite that, Ghastly do not want to harm the others, even if it meant to be a joke. He can even be sad shall his associate, Corphish, get hurt.

Corphish Dream

Corphish is Ghastly's less tricky but more intellegent partner. While he do not say no to pull a prank, he is not above to call him out for any insults he give to the others. He is also more skilled than his boss, although he doesn't like to act tough unlike Ghastly demand him to do so.

However, Corphish do not like that Ghastly suffers, and will immediatly attempt to defend him shall they get assaulted.

PTSR-Gardevoir Gardevoir is an elegant Pokemon who sells various items for the player in her shop. She is usually shy but still give good services for the customers with formal manners. One of the few things she does hate are thieves, and will punish thief who failed to outrun her.
PTSR-Gallade Gallade is the teacher of his own dojo. The elder brother of Gardevoir, Gallade is a tactician who knows that Pokemon can develop further without jeopardizing their or the others' own life. The player can teach the playable Pokemon new Moves as well as to unlock the Extra Ability.
PTSR-Golurk Golurk is the strong but soft apprentice who only resort fighting as a defense, when really provoked or to take out dangerous Pokemon. When not in a fight, he usually attempt to stop the fight unless he got hit real hard. Many rude Pokemon would dare to call him a whimpy coward...until they see him mad and got wrecked real hard.
PTSR-Stoutland Stoutland is a determined and bossy Pokemon who prefer to take command rather than following orders, much of others' annoyance. He is especially not a good leader, although during the middle of the game, he start to understand that cooperation is important, if not vital, for survival and to live in peace.
Noctowl Dream Noctowl is a little bit cynical but very sane Pokemon who knows that "some Legendary Pokemon do more harms than good for eneryone, including themselves". His words may not be the most encouraging one, but he do worries for the others' safety and will not say the others to give up or to do nothing about something that is shocking in life. He tend to sleep in day in favor to do night missions.
703Carbink Dream Carbink is an apprentice who is hyperactive for a Rock-Type; she will only calm down for sleeping or when really tired. She is not too bothered from getting hit by anything, as long as it is not a Super-Effective type move such as a Water-Type attack. She also fears Barbaracle, despite the latter one's no intention to harm her.
Charmeleon Charmeleon is the younger brother of the Char Duo. He is more hot-headed and impulsive than his older brother, Charizard, and often take things to seriously, especially in battles. He is a sore winner and a sore loser, although some prefers that he is simply hot-headed than the either sore sides.
CharizardDream Charizard is the older brother of the Char Duo. He is not hot-headed and impulsive unlike Charmeleon, but he is more excited and sometimes stubborn. When Charmeleon is being the one who causes troubles, Charizard will not hesitate to scold him, but the two brothers are usually inseparable.
103px-057Primeape Dcream

Primeape is an aggressive who only think to fight and who angers to even nothing, which caused him to be exceedely anti-social.

He apparently hates compliments and truth as much as insults and lies, but this is not true; he often said that he just unable to keep calm, and eventually, at the first quarter of the game, he noticed that he had bad ear sense and felt really horrible for everything bad he had done before after he realized about what he really did.

PTSR-Hitmontop Hitmontop is a fearless apprentice who is not above to take on dangerous foes, a trait that the others do worries about. He is not pleased to be called a fool because of that, and try to prove how strong he is. This may cause him to be arrogent to the most parts.
PTSR-Forretress A lazy and laid-back apprentice who only put efforts when demanded to. He only become more active when asked to or when dangers are nearby. When he is pulling his full potential, however, his skills are phenominal, but he prefered to do easy things over fighting.
PTSR-Slowking A brilliant inventor who carefully make inventions to make life better or to help out the missions. While some of them are either unneeded or just plain failed, others are successful and do help the others to progress. He hate to be called a nerd, and he is not a wimp, either.
PTSR-Meganium Meganium is an optimistic, cheerful but silly Pokemon who believes that the world deserves to be better. While cynical Pokemon often make fun of her, she outright ignores them because all she can hear in a nutshell is "give up", "never mind", "trust no one at all" or "I don't care", and most Pokemon do agreed with more and that cynical beliefs are more hindrance to Pokemon than to humans...for some good reasons.
PTSR-Wigglytuff Wigglytuff is a fun-loving but war-hating Pokemon who is always friendly to anyone, even to anyone who are mean. When pushed too hard or manipulated, Wigglytuff can quickly turn into a rampage into the compressor, something that even Bisharp should never make fun of her for that reason.
667Litleo

Litleo is a playful fellow who is curious of the others, often playing on their tail or anything that is moving. Some are quite bothered by that, but others don't mind at all.

Primeape do not dare to harm Litleo despite finding him annoying, and for a good reason; if this happens, anyone who harmed Litleo will have troubles with Pyroar, the guard of the Centio Village.

433Chingling Chingling is a mischievous but nonetheless cute girl who wishes to be a cleric unit like Audino. She uses her ruses rather than directly using moves at the opponents, such as climbing on one of them and ring herself to disorient the foes. She is also affectionous, as she nuzzles anyone who feel bad.
SSBVespiquen A stoic realist who only show her emotions when her important stuffs or someone she cares for got mistreatened real bad. She don't mind of giving or taking orders, but she dislike impolite and reckless commands. When really dissed off, she is not afraid of using Attack Order against the offender.
061Poliwhirl Poliwhirl is an upbeat but naive apprentice who wishes to be proud and strong like the Island Saviors. He is sometime nervous on a mission but in other times, he will not say no. He often think that some of the apprentices, like Ghastly, are not likely to be Island Saviors easily.
151Mew Mew is Meloetta's childhood friend and is the first one who warned Meloetta of what is actually going on in the Harmony Island and its surrounding. She often transform into the enemies so that she can transfer messages to her real teammates in order to discover any truth.
PTSR-Rhyperior Rhyperior is the leader of the Centio Village guards. He is a proud leader who deeply cares of his camerades, but also show no mercy for those who are irredeemable. Nothing can get on his nerves worse than someone who decide who is the winner and who is the loser, especially those who meant real harms.
189Jumpluff Jumpluff is one of the villagers of the Centio Village and a wise girl who know a lot about battle, although no one thought that she really fought real good. She is the one who teaches the player the basic and advanced techniques, and also know the secret of the Power-Blitz and Mega Evolutions works in this world.
PTSR-Feraligatr Feraligatr is Swampert's friendly rival who is responsible and strong but a bit dimwitted, unlike Swampert who is much, much smarter despite his childish behaviors. He give daily challenges for the player that awards special items, as well as base game challenges to help the player learn more about the possible situations.
PTSR-Scizor A hasty but brave guard of the Centio Village. While impatient for the most parts, he can fight furiously and able to capture outlaws in a few moves. His haste can sometimes hinder him more than the enemies, though. Like Audino, he know the truth behind the discord of Harmony Island but doesn't have enough nerves to said so...
Maractus Dream Maractus is the mayor of the Centio Village. Righteous, courageous, but very serious on her job, she support her villagers for the better future, but also avoid any optimistical ideas that sound impossible and any cynical ideas that could only make things worse. When she don't do her duty, she often dance near a lake.
394Prinplup Dream Prinplup is Maractus' assistant. He is stern about his work, but also a surprisingly good tactician. He disapprove any needless strafe and will call the guards to stop anyone who causes troubles (but only use Moves if the troublemaker is really harmful). He don't like when someone know that he is a good poet, though.
DrifblimDream Drifblim is one of the Pokemon Solidarity Academy teachers. She is usually strict with her students, but she do it in order to make things in order and only scold those who messed up too much. Her romantic passion with Rotom is something that even pranksters like Ghastly can't even joke about it.
Power Palkia The Power Palkia is a mysterious being who was the one that helped Medicham to defeat "The Feared One" in the past. He refuse to show himself unless when nessessary, and will occasionally Meloetta and friends when things are in the tightest spots. He is also the one who give righteous Pokemon the capacity of the Power-Blitz.
Tapu Koko Tapu Koko is a knight who is not above of shooting electric forces on enemies and have a mysterious ability to detect a misanthropic Pokémon (who according to her and many Legendary Pokémon, they tend to be one of the most dangerous type of individual Pokémon, strong or not). She is responsible to make many roads easier for Meloetta and others, until when Power Palkia had goes out of control. She reveals to be a former Island Savior until she was "atrociously assaulted" by a misanthropic criminal.
321Wailord Wailord is the transporter for the Harmony Island and its surrounding. When he transport the others, he causally crack a joke to give diversity for the passengers, but only if most of them allowed him to. He is a strong battler, too, so anyone attempting to hijack him will rather be busted away.

Antagonists[]

Pokemon Role
414Mothim Dream Mothim is a big mean troublemaker who is quite rude and narcissist. No one appreciate his behavior and some prefers to make him get away to avoid getting troubles. He even goes into betraying Meloetta and the others just to show how much he is superior to them! He regretted his acts after seeing "The Feared One" in person, of course.
PTSR-Bisharp Leader of the Chaotic Baka-Mubou, and ruthless but idiotic at best, Bisharp aim to spread the discord of every single Pokemon on the planet. His is certainly intimidating, but his foolishness and selfishness often bring him troubles when Weavile is not with him. If he gets serious under circonstances, he is actually an excellent fighter.
461Weavile Dream Bisharp's second-in-command, Weavile often know best about planning and strategies. She is usually the one who guide Bisharp well, otherwise the selfish Bisharp will attract more troubles than he could cause. She is an exceptional fighter, and whoever get on Bisharp's way must face her first.
Chaotic Baka-Mubou Not really a foolish tribe, but it was Weavile who named it because they are naive and reckless enough to join Bisharp (not that the latter one know it anyway). They are marked by slightly altered colors (not Shiny of course) and while some of them are not strong by themselves, others are tough to beat.
Volcanion SI Once trusted and beloved, he become enemy of Arceus and the other Legendary Pokemon does to Volcanion's belief and hatred of humans (who lives in a parallel dimension, mind you) as well as his pride are too strong to be tolerated, and he even before that, he barates any Pokemon who don't believe his "rumors". He is no pushover, of course, and can hold on his own against most Legendary Pokemon.

This is the true final boss before the endgame. Who is it?

Chinchou The Feared One may look cute and innocent, but he is actually a powerful Wizard of Light and can transform into a more powerful giant Lanturn. He was behind Bisharp's back in order to possess his henchman and will conquer the planet to make it strict and stressful! Stop him at all cost!

PTSR-Gliscor A former member of the Chaotic Baka-Munou who quitted the tribe out of hatred against Bisharp's abusive behavior. He now work alone for his own mischief, especially the post-end, but after being defeated the second time, he surrender and eventually knowledged his crimes, thus surrender at the guards at turn.

The final boss of the post-end story. The leader of the Earth Guards, he become mad out of Volcanon's pride and Kyogre's accidental betrayal.

After being betrayed by Kyogre (accidentally) and pushed hard by Volcanion's anti-human pride, Groudon become real mad but also attempt to stop the Rage Volcano controlled by someone else. Rough, but better mannered and way smarter than Bisharp, he only stop Meloetta and the Island Saviors to simply prevent them to intercept his true goal of stopping the volcano, one goal the player and the heroes didn't know until he tell the truth.

HP: | Atk: | Def: | Sp.A: | Sp.Def: | Spe:

The stubborn and idiotic chomper of the Dangerous Five, the elite members of the Baka-Mubou. He is not the brightest member of the crew but he makes up for it by never saying no for any orders Goodra, Weavile or Bisharp will give him, making him very loyal...a bit too loyal with Bisharp at times. He mainly attacks with Crunch, Aqua Jet and Dive, and when Mega Evolved, also attacks with Ice Fang, Surf and Dark Pulse.

HP: | Atk: | Def: | Sp.A: | Sp.Def: | Spe:

HP: | Atk: | Def: | Sp.A: | Sp.Def: | Spe:

The stern second-in-command of Goodra, Aegislash is not only the most professional (to the point of being a complete perfectionist) but also the most onboxious member of the Dangerous Five, to the point where Goodra and even Weavile and Bisharp were thinking to demote him into a normal Dangerous Five member. He often switches between Shield and Blade Formes, as you expected from an Aegislash, and will not hesitate to pull the King's Shield if you rely too much on close combat (no pun intended).

PTSR-VolcaronaType FireType Bug

HP: | Atk: | Def: | Sp.A: | Sp.Def: | Spe:

The frightful but actually the smartest member of the Dangerous Five, Volcarona will only follow the orders that will lead the Baka-Mubou army better, not to the worse. She even will not hesitate to fight with Aegislash, who is pretty much afraid of fire. She always start with a Quiver Dance, and she tend to only use Fiery Dance when affected by Taunt or when the opponent is vulnerable to this move.

DodrioType NormalType Flying

HP: | Atk: | Def: | Sp.A: | Sp.Def: | Spe:

When it is comes to picking and pecking on weaker opponents, Dodrio is the Pokémon who will do this dirty job. He is also not afraid of taking on Pokémon more powerful than he is...which mostly lead to disasterous results, much of the others' disappointment. He only use attacking moves such as Drill Peck at first, but he will then use Taunt when you will attempt to raise your stats or anything else...at the worst time.

HP: 100 | Atk: 120 | Def: 110 | Sp.A: 120 | Sp.Def: 150 | Spe: 80

The leader of the Dangerous Five, and technically the third-in-command of Bisharp. She ain't no Dark-Type Pokémon but she is not afraid of packing a brutal fighting when she wanted to. In fact, those who thought that she cannot fight will find the hard way. She is also very versatile, having moves of various type, including Flamethrower and Sludge Wave to take out Ice-Type and Fairy-Type Pokémon, respectively. You can still think that she is cute, but she might be the toughest Goodra you will ever met!

  • Gooey: Decrease the attacker's Speed by two stages when the former hit the Pokémon with Gooey with a contact move.
  • Sap Sipper: Instead of taking effects from Grass attacks, the Pokémon will have its Attack increased by one stage.
  • Hydration: During the rain or underwater, the user will always be healed much faster from Status Problems.

Trivia[]

  • Some rumors that the game is actually a spin-off of the Darmanitan Slam series, as it is not confirmed yet by Samtendo09 (tbc) that it is a spin-off, as it supposed to serves as more like a tribute to it.
    • However, the creator of the Darmanitan Slam series, VictoryStar (tbc), asked about when Meloetta and the Island Saviors take place in either the Slam trilogy or the Jam trilogy, while Samtendo only responds that it mostly depends but do think that it takes place in Slam since he thinks that the Jam trilogy is before Darmanitan and Darumaka would meet for the first time, before knowing VictoryStar told him that Darmanitan Jam is simply an alternative continuity of Darmanitan Slam.
    • This therefore confirmed that Meloetta and the Island Saviors had become a side-series of Darmanitan Slam, and possibly a spiritual sequel of the original Darmanitan Slam trilogy.
