IMPORTANT: even though I'm aware that without Super Smash Bros. we wouldn't have had many series in this game (like Fire Emblem or, most importantly, Kid Icarus), but since it has never happened, I don't care. Please, enjoy this page!
Super Smash Bros., released in Japan as Dairanto Smash Brothers, the fray of all stars! is the first game of the Super Smash Bros. series. It is set to be released on March 2017, as a launch title for the Nintendo NX. While being a fighting game, Super Smash Bros. has a plenty of new ideas to make it a unique experience, such as the removal of health bars and the edge-guard system.
Gameplay[]
As stated before, Super Smash Bros. is an unconventional fighting game, in fact health bars were completely removed. Instead players take damage by adding percentages on a damage meter. The higher is the percentage, the further the character will be launched. If they fly far enough, players are KO'd. A very important note is the presence of a Nintendo All-Star cast as playable characters instead of unique ones added specifically for the game. This radically changes the gameplay, as characters bring their own style in Smash: as such, Mario is a balanced choice while Bowser is very strong, Kirby can copy opponents' abilities while Samus can attack using her array of weapons.
Players can use only two kind of attacks: standard attacks (used by pressing A) and special moves (used by pressing B). To change the type of attack, players have to control the stick direction. For example, Mario's forward standard attack is a sideways hammer swing while his down standard attack is a sliding tackle. Special moves are, as the name implies, often very special. As an example, Mario's standard special move is the Fireball while his downwards special move is the Star Spin. Other than that, players have access to two kind of jumps: the short hop (by pressing Y) and the full jump (by pressing X), they can grab opponents (by pressing Z), shield (L, R), dodge (shield + movement), spot dodge (shield + down) and air dodge (shield in air).
Characters[]
As stated by series' director, the cast is composed of "Nintendo's biggest All-Stars when we decided the roster." There are 30 characters in total: 20 starters and 10 hidden ones from a grand total of 16 different series. The Super Mario Bros. series has the most characters at six, then we have the The Legend of Zelda series at four, the Pokémon series at three, the Kirby, the Metroid, the Fire Emblem and the Donkey Kong series, both at two and then the other series with a single representative. Each character has their own rival. For hidden characters however things are slightly different: they have a main rival who is also an unlockable character. If the main rival isn't unlocked yet, then they'll fight against their secondary rival, who is a starter character.

Stages[]
The game contains 35 stages, hailing from 21 different series. Each character has a home stage, which is where the players fights them the most of the times (in Classic Mode, in All-Star Mode, when unlocking them etcetera). Six stages have a Boss. Bosses are usually very strong but have predictable attack patterns: they are designed to be more like a hazard. For a complete list of stages, please go here
Items[]
One thing that makes Super Smash Bros. stand out from the other fighting games is the presence of items. Items are often considered to be the most "casual" addition in the game, as their presence makes the match constantly volatile. Most items come from other games while two (Smash Ball and Assist Capsule) were made for this game. Assist Capsules, along with Poké Ball, are notable, as they allow the player to summon, respectively, an Assist Trophy or a Pokémon.

Modes[]
There are plenty of ways to play Super Smash Bros., even some modes designed specifically for a single player.
Versus: Smash[]
Versus: Smash is the main, as well as the simples, mode in the game: basically, here the player can duke it out with up to three friends for a total number of four player simultaneously. Players can even choose to turn on or off the items and set the hazards of the stages. There are four maim ways to play Versus: Smash:
- Stocks: in this mode, whenever a player loses all his stocks, is out. When a player is dead can control the boss of the stage, if hazards are set to on and the stage has a boss.
- Stamina: a variant of the "Stocks" mode, here players don't have their damage meter, instead they have HP.
- Time: in this mode, the winner is the player with the highest score when the time runs out. A player gets +1 point for every KO scored and -1 point for every stock lost.
- Coin: a variant of the "Time" mode, here the winner is who has the most coins. Players get coin whenever they hit any opponent. By getting hit, they lost coins.
Classic Mode[]
As the name implies, this mode is pretty straight forward. The player has to succeed in 12 different levels plus 3 bonuses.. Characters are chosen at random but the series they hail from is not: the order is below.
- Level 1: Punch Out/Duck Hunt/Kid Icarus
- Level 2: Donkey Kong
- Level 3: Kirby
- Bonus: break the targets
- Level 4: Pokémon
- Level 5: Star Fox/Pikmin
- Level 6: The Legend of Zelda
- Bonus: board the platforms
- Level 7: Super Mario Bros.

All-Star Mode[]
The All-Star Mode allows the player to face off against the whole cast of playable characters. While available from the start, the True All-Star Mode is unlocked with every single hidden character. If a challenge wants the player to complete some task about the All-Star Mode, it'll always refer as the True All-Star Mode. Here, we have the list of the levels.
- Mushroom Kingdom Inhabitants: Diddy Kong, Wario, Yoshi, Bowser, Peach, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Mario
- Legendary Heroes: Corrin, Alph, Toon Link, Fox, Pit, Link

Between matches, players are brought to the rest area. In the rest area, players can find three Maxim Tomatoes that can restore up to 50% their damage.
Online[]
While playing with three friends may sound funny, it's possible to battle against other players from the world. There are two ways to play Smash online:
- For Fun: in this mode, players fight in a casual environment, items do spawn, stages are chosen at random and there are four players at the same time. Rules are set to time.
- For Glory: this mode is more competitive oriented: items don't spawn, stages are chosen by striking the official competitive list (Town, Hyrule and Lorule, WaraWara Plaza, Dream Land and Arena Ferox) and there are only 1v1 battles. Rules are set to stocks.
Story Mode: Clash of Dimensions[]
The last mode is a story. Levels resemble the ones seen in other platform games like Super Mario Bros. or (most notably) Kirby. To see more information about the mode, please click here.
Vault[]
Vault section is a bit special: here, players will find only "extras": trophies, music tracks, replays and snapshots saved all appear here, as well as their record or statistics.
Vault: trophies[]
Trophies are a sort of collectable figurines that depict Nintendo characters, not only characters that appear as playable in the game, but also very important ones seen in the home games. For a complete list of the trophies, check here.
Vault: soundtrack[]
Soundtrack is one of the best things in Smash: it takes song from many loved Nintendo games. In each stage, five tracks can play at random. However, here's possible to set a "favorite track": a favorite track has 1/3 chance to be listened. For a list of music tracks, check here.
