Fable Dawn is an upcoming Prequel in the Fable Series. It is the earliest game in the series taking place hundreds of years before the first game (the previous earliest point in the timeline). The game brings together the remains of Lionhead Studios, Nintendo's EPD and Darklight Studios as the game intends to utilize aspects of gaming learnt from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild albeit with Fable's style of Gameplay.

Synopsis

During the early years of Albion, (a few generations after the legendary Archon, William Black) the lands still fertile and young from the slow development of humanity, a settlement in the mysterious Mountainous Forest of South is attacked by vicious monsters nearly killing everyone in the settlement. The Heroes of the region, seemingly had been defeated prior to this event by said monsters and only a young child was left standing amongst the wreckage, destruction and death around them, however in an attempt to escape discovers a mysterious stag that offers to save the child in exchange for them to become a hero and stop the chaotic monsters and their master. The child accepts and the Stag takes the hero to a mysterious glowing pond, from here the Stag directs the child to drink from the pond and the child does so and from which they unlock the bloodline that had laid dormant in their genes for nearly 150 years. The Stag then brings the child to the Hero's Guild where the Stag tells the child that they must train and harness the powers of Strength, Skill and Will if they ever hope to stop the chaotic monsters and avenge their family and friends. The Stag then fades away as a mysterious old figure approaches the player asking if the child is lost.

Gameplay

Gameplay borrows from both Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and previous Fable Games. The Game has the player using degradable items including armour and weapons as well as various factors such as being able to alter the terrain and environment through chopping trees, striking the earth and destroying structures. The player can move around, climb, swim, spring, roll, crawl, sneak & dive depending on their environment allowing for them to search for secrets, items, enemies and various other things of interest. Combat has been enhanced from the previous entries, while still real time, the combat has become more dynamic with the player able to now learn new Melee and Ranged skills as well as far more Magical Spells than before. The player's abilities dictate how well they perform in battle and how they are physically altered in game.

Like in previous Fable Games, morality and other attributes have an impact on how the player appears as well as how people react to the player. By being good, generous and kind the player will physically look more holy and at very high levels will age significantly more slowly and scars will become much less prominent. In addition the player's hair will change and they will be able to vaguely see a halo and angelic wings appear on their head and back respectively. In contrast if the player is evil, vile and cruel they will phsyically look demonic by comparison and like being good, at high levels aging is slowed however at maximum, unlike good, evil actually halts aging as the player is essentially a demon. In addition the player will develop demonic horns and be able to vaguely see angelic wings on their back. In addition many other factors are listed further down.

Main Characters

Character Gender Description
The Hero/Heroine of the Wild Male/Female A Man or Woman whom would later become known through history as a crucial saviour of Albion and the lands around it against a curse of unforseen forces. Though their actions may have been selfish, selfless or somewhere in between they are always remembered as one of the great heroes of the early Guild Days, raised and trained by the legendary heroes Nostro and Scythe.
Nostro, the Great Hero Male Master Tactician and already renowned hero, Nostro became the face of the Guild at an early age after forming it along with Scythe. Nostro is a fierce fighter capable of impressive Melee combat and a fondness for Necromancy. Some believe he is a bit evil although many believe that while he doesn't act out of the good of everyone he does his best to protect the guild and keep its reputation from falling.
Scythe, the Guildmaster Male Legendary Hero even before he helped shape the guild into the renowned origin of many heroes of the era, Scythe was known as both a mystic and a master of the Scythe his most prized weapon. Scythe is said to be relentless in combat capable of taking down droves of minions in quick succession and his understanding and knowledge of the old world is unmatched. Some believe Scythe was one of the first heroes of Albion and cheated death quite a few times.
Digmouth, the Explorer Male The main explorer for the Guild, Digmouth doesn't get into fights much, mainly due to his ineptness at Magic and rather weak frame preventing him from using most Melee Weapons, however Digmouth is both excellent at Tracking and Archery which helps him explore the far wilds for potential locations for settlements to begin forming as well as sustaining himself of the world around him. Digmouth also has a reputation for being a bit of a hermit often preferring to explore alone.
Sunder, the Rival Female A fellow Guildsman like the player, Sunder is a master of swordplay and favours her three swords which are collectively known as the Balverine's Bane. At a young age Sunder relentlessly defended her younger sister, Aria from a White Balverine attack with a Silver Shortsword she successfully slew the beast tearing out three of its teeth in the process, each tooth was used as the hand for her blades which she has incredible proficiency at. She mainly uses the longswords although in very close combat will pull out the shortsword of the trio to defend herself. Sunder is very brave and despises the monsters that lurk in the wilds.
Alixias, the Shining Paladin Male A legendary Paladin known for his incredible strength considered by most to be the strongest hero of the guild physically, Alixias is respected by many and has an extremely confident personality often not taking most threats posed at him very seriously. He wields a massive Greatsword he's called the Avalanche due to its origins in the Northern Wastes.
Beraith, the Ranger Female Known far and wide as one of the most famous heroes in Albion, Beraith is an expert Ranger able to use very long ranged attacks to effectively take out an encampment without being detected while also having incredible close range combat proficiency to defend herself in tough situations. Beraith is not particularly good at talking to people, preferring to stick in the wild for long periods of time only coming to the guild to acquire new quests and confirm that she's still alive. She and Alixias are cousins and have known each other since their childhood although you wouldn't be able to tell at a glance.
Lady Grey, the Queen of Bowerstone Female
Axehorn, the Bloody Bandit King Male
Nornomo, the Death Wizard Female
Ragatome, the Guard Captain Male
Meranok, the Forest Sorcerer Male

More TBA

Augmentations

Augmentations return once again acting as additional benefits to weapons. Augmentations can do a variety of things from adding additional damage factors to tweaking how much damage is done against certain types of enemies. The Augmentations are permanent features to a weapon and cannot be removed once attached. Like the weapon they are connected to they will be destroyed once the weapon breaks. All Unique Weapons have 2-4 Augmentations already attached and cannot have any more preventing them from being customized further in that aspect.

Demon Doors

Demon Doors are ancient entities that are both alive and inorganic at the same time. It is unknown who constructed them and where they originate from however they are known for containing great secrets such as books of knowledge, legendary weapons, potions of Might, Skill and Will and other items. They however are not easy to access as Demon Doors will only open for heroes who can prove they possess some particular qualities. The Demon Doors are found all across Albion although a large percentage can be found in Central Castwood where the original city of the Archons is said to have existed.

Demon Doors also appear in the Northern Wastes & The Arradian Islands although have slightly different appearances. The Demon Doors in Albion look partway between their appearance in Fable I and Fable II, in the Northern Wastes they look similar to how they were in Fable I and the ones in Arradian Islands have a completely new design.

Enemies

Enemies in Fable Dawn differ quite heavily from their predecessors, no longer giving Morality points for the most part either way. Aside from the ones listed below there are also all forms of humans and demon spawn which are both non-aggressive and have their own forms of civilization. In addition it should be noted that no enemy that is truly Good (Enemy Good Symbol) or Evil (Enemy Evil Symbol) is Aggressive and will only attack in defense.

Locations

Albion

Fable Dawn Map

Albion in Fable Dawn is much more wild than previous entries as the world is not nearly as developed. As such only two settlements permanently exist in this game; Bowerstone & The Hero's Guild, aside from this the vast wilderness of Albion is left mostly unexplored with the player often finding individuals dotted across the rest of the map with some focuses of grouping in what will in later entries become towns; Oakvale, Knothole Glade, Bloodstone & Westcliff. In addition the player can create settlements that will become part of the map as well as help settlements form by clearing areas out for settlers. The player can set up structures that will help create the settlements such as walls and the crafting tables necessary to form the settlements. These settlements the player creates must always be certain distances from each other to prevent crowding in the world and also cannot become as large as Bowerstone partly for continuity's sake and also again to prevent crowding. Settlement's can usually reach a size of about half of Bowerstone in this game and can come under attack from creatures in the area so if they are not properly foritified they will fall. In addition the location of a settlement can determine its output and what the player can buy from said settlement. Each of the 9 Major Forests of the Game offer different items within that impact what settlements and the player can acquire with Castwood (The North-East Very Large Forest) having both the strongest creatures and the rarest items.

Navigating the world in itself can become a challenge as Guild Seals have yet to be invented and while Cullis Gates can be built in Settlements the player must still navigate to said Settlements if they wish to Fast Travel from one Settlement to another. In addition the player can also create paths between settlements, although these paths require the player to clear particular areas to create outposts to protect said paths. The player is able to create outposts by constructing a settlement-esque base however setting it to Outpost Mode instead of Settlement Mode, from here the player is able to hire Guards, Heros or Local Fighters to serve at the Outposts, these outposts will keep themselves maintained and as long as neither of the settlements the outpost is connected to are destroyed the outpost will remain standing without the player needing to pay to maintain it.

The player can also invest in other specialized locations which have their own unique building as opposed to the Settlement/Outpost Mode switching. There are 26 Specialized Locations the Player can construct to allow for collecting or harvesting of materials in the surrounding area that will both supply the player and nearby settlements with materials for the player to make new objects and the settlements to expand and grow.

Regions

The land of Albion is divided into regions, these regions give an understanding to travelers and settlers as well as adventurers of what materials can be found in that particular region as well as the types of creatures and general presence of good or evil (of which the player can influence). The regions of Albion are; Greatwood, Darkwood, Soul Coast, Elderwood, Sapling Islands, Mistwood, Chaoswood Islands, East Castwood, Central Castwood, West Castwood, Faewood, West Coast & The Knothole Islands. They are distinguishable for the variety of enemies and mostly by the types of vegetation and weather of the regions. The Map below details these regions.

The Northern Wastes

Fable Dawn Northern Wastes

The Northern Wastes, last seen in Fable: The Lost Chapters & Fable Anniversary also appear in this game being significantly further away from the rest of Albion due to tectonic movement that hadn't occured yet. In contrast to Albion it is a cold and bitter land with much more mountainous terrain and a single squaller of homes that make up the twin district city of Snowspire. In addition the island that would later become known as Hook Coast is also featured and can be traveled to once Snowspire has been improved. The Northern Wastes are the main location of the Second Act of the Game and aside from the Bronze Gate the entire main landmass and its surrounding islands can be visited immediately with the aformentioned Hook Coast and the new Frigid River Islands becoming available to visit as Snowspire improves. Snowspire's people are much more hardy than Albion and can easily defend themselves from the creatures that lurk in the Frozen Forests and Mountains of the land and thus require lest defense to sustain their settlements. In addition the player can connect up produce and supplies to and from these two locations quite easily allowing for supply of objects in Snowspire in locations that lack such objects.

Regions

Like Albion the regions of the Northern Wastes are divided up, dictating what can be found in them. In comparison to Albion's 13 Regions, the Northern Wastes has 12 Regions; Snowy Foothills, Island of Souls, Chillwood, North Peaks, Crystal Valley, Magnetic Archipelago, Barren Plains, Frozen Coast, Necrotic Hills, Eastreach, Whirl Coast & Frigid River Islands. The regions overall feature less wood per location although have increased amounts of mineral deposits and livestock like sheep and plants like silk and cotton fare better in the Northern Wastes than Albion.

Arradian Islands

Fable Dawn Arradian Islands

A new location to the Fable Universe, the Arradian Islands are a large Island continent found South and Far East of Albion which are known for their warmer climate and two key cities; Ragnarok & Excalibur, stated as being twin cities, the two are not quite as large as Bowerstone although overall have a higher population than Albion at the time of Fable Dawn. The Arradian Islands are the main setting for the Third Act of Fable Dawn and feature the toughest and most dangerous creatures in the game. The islands are considered wild and extremely dangerous to travelers and thus Settlements simply won't form if they're too far away from Ragnarok or Excalibur or another settlement, although the smaller islands are considered safer and don't have much trouble forming settlements.

Regions

The largest of the three landmasses the player visits, the Arradian Islands also feature the most Regions with 19 in total. It is here that one may find that the Arradian Islands feature what is known as the "Great Forests" which are massive ancient forests that are not only massive in size but also hold many ancient secrets, these three forests are known as; Crownwood, Lorewood & Weepwood, the latter being the largest of the three taking up nearly half of the Island of Ragnarok. The 19 Regions are; Cliffs of AVo, Mount Erdamus, West Crownwood, Central Crownwood, East Crownwood, Sunrise Coast, Excalibur Grove, Sunset Coast, West Lorewood, Central Lorewood, East Lorewood, West Weepwood, East Weepwood, South Weepwood, Southern Swamps, Hobbe Islands, Gemini Isles, Silver Cliffs & Ragnarok Vale.

Item Creation

Many Items in Fable Dawn can be created through interacting with various machines as well as being found in the overworld itself. The player is able to create every Regular Weapon, Armour, Food, Potion and certain physical objects that can be used in game. The player will find that initially they are very limited in what they can create as initially only Bowerstone has available crafting benches for only Food & Physical Objects, however as the player impacts the world around them they will find that settlements can appear and the player can invest in these Settlements to help them prosper and in return can expect the settlements to expand and construct new crafting tables (as well as the player's ability to create crafting tables as well albeit this takes a large amount of resources). The player can also invest money into Bowerstone or the Hero's Guild in particular factors of these two places to improve them and acquire new or better crafting tables.

Quests

Quests are split up into 3 types; Gold, Silver & Bronze. Gold Quests are part of the Main Questline and while multiple ones can become active at the same time they all result in forwarding the storyline and can impact each other. Silver Quests are major Side-Quests that are often Multi-Quests connected together distinguished as "Parts". Lastly, Bronze Quests are either Minor Side-Quests or Radiant Quests that the player takes directly from the person who offers the quest as opposed to acquiring the quest from the Quest Table like Gold or Silver Quests.

Trivia

  • Fable Dawn is the first Fable Prequel and also illustrates time before Fable 1
  • Very few enemies actually impact the player morality as most are just savage animals that are neither good nor evil, instead attacking demonic creatures will improve the player's morality while attacking guards, innocents and holy creatures will lower the player's morality
  • Like Fable 4, Fable Dawn has an open world with the exception of major cities and enclosed areas require seperate loading.
  • This is the first game not to feature Theresa in any form as she was not born yet
  • The game features several characters mentioned in other Fable Games who are stated to have existed during this time period as well as a few Fable 1 Characters; Scythe & Nostro
