Dynamic is a defining adjective to describe a archetype for certain characters in fighting games. This archetype normally reflects characters with playstyles that feature the character changing in a specific way, such as a stance change, or a different mode the character can transition to.

Dynamic characters are normally characters that are able to change themselves through the course of a match. This can be a a stat change, or even the addition of additional moves in their moveset. These characters are normally hard to pick up, and difficult to master, needing experience to know and choose what mode to use at a specific time. These characters are often seen near the top of fighting game tier lists, due to their unpredictability and their ability to adapt to their environments. This is archetype is very similar to the Stance Change and the Power character archetypes, however, Dynamic characters are usually still similar to how they where in the beginning of the match.

Some Dynamic characters also a character specific meter built in only for themselves.

  • The Super Smash Bros. series has an example in the character Shulk, who has the ability to change his stats to be more agile or stronger.
  • Multiple characters in Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3. Those being Phoenix Wright, Frank West, Phoenix, and Iron Fist.
