First Appearance | Super Mario Maker (2015) |
Bumpers are objects that can be placed in Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Maker 2, though in the later they are unavailable in the Super Mario 3D World style. Additionally, in the former they are alternate forms of Grinders, and are separate in the sequel. They are torus-shaped rubber objects with eyes at the top.
Bumpers will either stand in place or move along Tracks. As their name suggests, if Mario comes in contact with one, he will bounce backward. This can help him if he lands on them from above, as the bounce can improve his jump height to reach higher areas. This can also hinder him though, as he can potentially be bounced into obstacles that damage him. In the New Super Mario Bros. U style, they resemble the bouncy balls used by Lemmy Koopa.
Appearances[]
Mario Kart: Infinity Remix[]
Bumpers appear in Mario Kart: Infinity Remix as items, appearing as they do in the New Super Mario Bros. U style. When used, the Bumper will surround the user's kart for a short time, bouncing away any incoming items or drivers backwards. It should be noted that items aren't destroyed by Bumpers, but merely pushed away. Bumpers also cannot protect drivers from certain obstacles, such as explosions of sound waves from the Super Horn.

Trivia[]
- Bumpers act very similarly to the item of the same name in the Super Smash Bros. series, and may have possibly been based on them.
