A Beach Koopa is a Koopa Troopa that has been shucked from its shell, so named because its outfit resembles swim trunks. They first appeared in Super Mario World in a hunched-over style akin to the design of Koopa Troopas in Super Mario Bros. 3 and previous games.

Beach Koopas generally behave the same as their shelled counterparts (so red Beach Koopas still turn around at ledge edges while green ones don't). If they see a Koopa shell, they will climb into it. Blue Beach Koopas, who are fatter than the others, instead intercept incoming objects and kick them back, while yellow Beach Koopas jump over incoming shells. Blue Beach Koopas can also slide down slopes. If a yellow Beach Koopa climbs into a shell, it becomes invincible.

Super Koopa can be considered an "evolved" form, akin to their Koopa Paratroopa counterpart.

Fanon Appearances[]

St. Clair Publications[]

Most St. Clair Publications media shows nine possible colors for Beach Koopas, just like regular Koopas.

Your default form is a Beach Koopa in Koopa Troopa. You are highly encouraged to get a shell so you don't keel over and die to a light breeze; the shell also serves as your primary weapon. They can typically be found in shops. Stealing shells from other Koopas is also an option; however, the game will eventually punish you for doing this too much.

Koopa can become a Beach Koopa with some of his attacks in Super Smash Stadium, leaving him wide open and easy to kill.

Yuki's Adventure stars two Koopas, who are Beach Koopas in small form. Despite the multiple references they make to "getting/needing their shells" to get big, they use a Mushroom to achieve that form just like in any other Mario game.
