The Amazing Flyin' Hammer Brother (Japanese: アッパレ Appare), also referred to as Amazing Flyin' Hammer Bro. and A.F.H. Bro., is a type of Hammer Bro. that first debuted in Super Mario World. Amazing Flyin' Hammer Brothers ride atop Flying Blocks and rain a storm of hammers down upon Mario, Luigi, and Peach. An Amazing Flyin' Hammer Brother can be defeated by stomping atop it, hitting it from below, or by directly hitting it with a projectile.

Super Princess Peach introduced an Amazing Flyin' Hammer Brother under the effects of the Vibe Scepter. This Amazing Flyin' Hammer Brother, the Calm Amazing Flyin' Hammer Brother (or C.A.F.H. Bro.), would remain asleep until approached, at which point it will act identically to a normal Amazing Flyin' Hammer Brother.

Appearances[]

Super Mario: Multicolored Mayhem[]

The Amazing Flyin' Hammer Bro is no longer an enemy but a boss in Cloudy Canyon. It attacks by throwing giant hammers, and stomping on his flying blocks to generate electric shockwaves. Finally, the hammer bro grabs a giant hammer and slams it into the ground, leaving Mario paralysed from the shockwaves for 2 seconds. If Mario jumps at the correct time, he can dodge the shockwave and climb up the giant hammer to punch the hammer bro in the face. When the hammer bro is on the ground shell first, Mario must ground pound the hammer bro's chest. If Mario does this 3 times, the hammer bro will be defeated, And a color star will emerge from the flying blocks.

Trivia[]

  • While the Boomerang Bro. debuted before the Amazing Flyin' Hammer Brother, the latter's blue coloration predates the former's. This is notable as it makes the Amazing Flyin' Hammer Brother one of the first blue-colored subspecies of Koopa Troopa.
    • Koopa Troopas with blue shells also debuted in Super Mario World, thus also sharing this distinction.
    • In Super Mario Bros. Koopa Troopas would also appear to have blue shells in the underground levels. This, however, is a result of the technical color palette used in these levels, with the Koopa Troopas actually being the normal green-shelled variants.
