Amaura, known in Japan as アマルス (Amarus) is a quadrupedal Rock/Ice-type Pokémon. Amaura is one of two families of Fossil Pokémon of Kalos, and is revived via a Sail Fossil. It evolves into Aurorus at level 39 at night, similar to how Tyrunt evolves into Tyrantrum at day.

Biology

Amaura is a long-necked, quadrupedal dinosaurian with a cyan skin color, a white belly, and a big head with large, blue eyes. Adorned above its eyes are two sail-like appendages that change color depending on Amaura's mood. A diamond-shaped gemstone as cold as ice is adorned on each of its abdomen's sides.

Amaura is restored from a part of its body that has been frozen over for over a 100 million years. Amaura lived in a tundra-like region, free from violent predators like Tyrantrum or Aerodactyl.

Trivia

Origin

Amaura is based on a child Amargasaurus, which were speculated to have sail-like skin extensions on their vertebral spines. Amaura also shares various traits with other species of Diplodocoidea. The color-changing sails it has may be based on several kinds of aurora, possibly the aurora borealis due to its Ice typing.

Name Origin

Amaura is a contraction of Amargasaurus, combined with aurora or aura

Amarus is also a contraction of Amargasaurus.
